This morning, my Selection Tool (the filled-in arrow) is acting like a Direct Selection Tool (the hollow arrow), but only when I click and drag on a group. It ends up select the anchors within the group rather than the whole group itself.  I've checked my preferences, quit and relaunched Illustrator a few times, and nothing seems to fix it. The problem briefly went away a few minutes ago, but came back when I quit and relaunched for good measure.  It's happening in Illustrator CS 5.1. I have CS6, and that version works fine, but I'm waiting on some plugins to be updated for it, so I'd like to use CS 5.1. I'm also running the latest Suitcase Fusion 4.
I've been using Photoshop for more than 10 years now, more extensively in the last couple of years. I am a perfectionist, efficient and work very fast. Â I don't understand why Photoshop programmers are not listening to their users and considering requested features to perfect Photoshop...but concentrating more on, like adding yet another set of filters or more polygon shapes we don't need ! Â One of the most important tools in Photoshop, for me at least, is the LASSO SELECTION tool. I generally have at least 15 layers for a project, you can probably guess that the SELECTION tool is my best friend. Â The most frustrating thing using Photoshop is : the mouse double-click to close the SELECTION. You have no idea how many hundreds of times for the last 10 years I've cursed the Mother-F out of Photoshop...and time wasted on re-selecting again... Â Don't advise me to modify my mouse double-click speed, or using the pen tool to select and reconverting to work path...those are not THE SOLUTION and you know it ! I've hoped for years now, for a new feature in every new version of PS preferences to disable the selection double-click.
When working with Paths in photoshop, I have developed a work flow that revolves around adding anchor points to an existing path and repositioning the added anchor point with the Direct Selection Tool.
The Issue I am having is whenever I create an anchor point and attempt to move it too quickly, that it instead enters isolation mode and the point is not moved. The result either having to greatly reduce the speed at which I work or repeat the movement several times until it works. Â Is there a way to disable this feature?
Maybe it's a problem with Mavericks or with my Mac Mini late 2012. But when editign text with anchored images and other text frames, all the contect disappears. When I click outside the box with the selection tool, everything works ok again. It seems to me a visual glitch, because the content does not really disappears, only in does not allow you to "visually" edit it. If I use a visualization setting of low quality (image boxes shown as gray boxes) everything works as usual. Any clue?
When I click on an item with the direct tool I used to get a small square on each bounding box line which I could use to adjust the size of the object. Somehow it's gone away - how do I get it back?
I have Photoshop CS5 on a Mac OS 10.7.4 My problem is that when I am using curves or a slider, my selection does not stay in the same place. For example, I chose the number 8 on a slider, after I release my selection it will either go one number after or before my selected number. I have had this problem since I got my computer, December 2011, but it has only recently started to frustrated me because of having to use Photoshop a little more than I usually do.
Since we updated to CC, I have a very good chance of this not working evey time I try it. Maybe 10% of the time, it will select the word/line as it should. My prefs are identical for this feature as they have for the past several version of InDesign. My partner also has trouble with copy/paste in InDesign and Illustrator as well.
Illustrator CS4 Â I'm not exactly sure what happened, but suddenly my Type Tool can not select type by double clicking or click and drag any more. Â I'm using Illustrator CS4 (14.0.0) on a MacPro with OSX 10.6.8.
Using the selection tool i should be able tp reduce or shrink the size of the box or an image as a whole without changing the format. Iam not able to do that. I think i disabled something in my illustrator.
I have been continually annoyed, when creating a vector mask-heavy document, with trying to select vector mask points by dragging a rectangle only to find that it instead selects a layer higher up which has a larger vector mask. Â The only workaround is to manually select the points of my mask or to drag a rectangle from outside the canvas, meaning I have to zoom out or scroll to the edge - sometimes annoying if I am zoomed in quite far. Â I know that the move tool can be set to automatically select a layer, depending on what part of the image is clicked, but why is there not an option to turn this off for vector editing?
If you look closely in the attached picture, there is a spot of light blue on the player's helmet, that looks like a mistake (think it should look like the grass behind it)...though it actually may be part of his helmet. Â Regardless, I'd like to take it out. My idea was to select the blue with the quick selection tool, then bring that selection out to the grass, select the grass with that size/shape of selection, copy/paste and then bring the grass selection into the blue part so it looks like grass in what was the blue part. Â The problem is I don't seem to be able to move the selection without taking the blue with it (so it's not an empty selection and therefore can't select a piece of the grass.)
've recently noticed something uncommon when working with Photoshop CS6 under Mac OS X 10.8.x.When I naturally tried to select a Layer by the [ Command + Click ] (let's say) shortcut, it failed. This little thing was driving me nuts, and I know it must be getting some people hairless, too.
Anyway(s), by looking another read-only thread, I noticed the problem has not been solved and some pretty lame recommendations were given. By try, I finally found the solution and was able to fix this little annoyance that maybe we've all been through. downgrading to 5.5 again like I was considering: Â 1) In Photoshop, make sure the Move Tool is selected by pressing "V"; 2) In the tool's submenu, forget about selecting/marking "Auto-Select". 3) Although, make sure "Layer" is selected right next to the "Auto-Select" button, and you should be done as I am.
When creating selection marquees, i.e. magnetic lasso, etc., I like to "set" lots of anchors close together when tracing along an object. I can't tell you how many times I've been 98% finished w/ a tedious selection, and accidentally closed a marquee because the system "thinks" I double-clicked. I've set my double-click speed in the windows control panel as fast as it will go, but this still happens. Del does not delete the last anchor point once the selection is finished. It cuts the selection out. Ideally, I'd like a way to specify an altenative method in PS to finish selections, i.e. SHIFT CTR click, or ENTER, etc.
Does anyone know of there's some registry trick, etc. to accomplish this in Windows w/ CS2 or CS3.
As there a way to do this in PS prefs, etc, that I've totally missed. I just can't imagine I'm the only one having this annoying problem, but I can't find a single mention of it on google with what I felt were good search criteria.
At minimum, I'd be happy with a way to "Undo close selection", so I could resume setting anchors & finish it properly.
Hi guys, I have been using CS2 since its release but I didn’t discover this small nuance until yesterday, and needless to say it unnerved me quite a bit. In PS7 I used to use a trick to achieve a certain effect in some of my designs, making a pattern or single-color image on one layer, ctrl-clicking that layer to make it a selection, and then using that selection to delete other parts of my image. I liked this method as it allowed for me to save the particular selection, and always have that layer available to go back to in case of future use. Since I haven’t done graphic work in a while (mostly digital painting at the moment) I didn’t realize this change was made, either that, or I don’t know how to achieve a similar ends using CS2 that I did with PS7. If anyone understands what I’m asking, and can offer a bit of assistance it would be much appreciated, I am doing a menu layout and design for a local day-spa and I was hoping to do something interesting with their preexisting logo.
For some reason when I make a selection using CTRL+Click it never fully matches the cutout of the layer I am mimicking. There is always trim. I've posted a picture to best describe what is happening.Â
Fig A. I've made a cutout using the background eraser. Because of this you can see how the cutout appears to be somewhat transparent around the edge.  Fig B. When placed on 50% gray the hair trim is as detailed as I wanted. It's a satisfying result.  Fig C. I now make a selected of this semi transparent cutout by cimply CTRL+Clicking the layer.  Fig D. I now duplicate the original (not cutout) and use this selection to cutout again (don't ask why) but the cutout doesn't match 100%. It's close, but it simply doesn't match. I've also tried using this selection to make a mask on the non cutout image and the edge is exactly the same.  I thought some auto anti-alias may be turned on but I can't seem to find anything. I really need a duplicate of this cutout to match precisely.
The answer to this post is not the pickfirst variable. I select text, a line, anything really then right click, copy and nothing it loses the selection set and waits for me to now select something. I know it sounds like pickfirst, but pickfirst is set to 1.

By default when we left click in AutoCAD and move the mouse, a selection window appears. Something went wrong in my system and now if I left click no selection window is appearing. For selection window to appear I have to drag the mouse instead of just moving it (which is the normal behavior).
I don't have any particular speed issue with illustrator CS6 in general. However there is a massive speed problem when I'm trying to select on object on the artboard with a single click. Â When selecting a object by creating a "rectangle" over the object it works fine and normal speed. When clicking the object to select it, nothing happens for about 3/4 seconds, then the loading little rainbow circle appears and loads for another 3/4 seconds...
I did something and I'm not sure what. But my selection tool has changed. Now when I try to alter the length of a clip in a timeline, it automatically switches to the rolling edit tool with the 2 arrows on either side of a line. If I try to just grab the end of a clip it also drags the end of the clip beside it as well. It affects inserts and almost anything I do. I can't figure out how to return my selection tool to normal.
I don't understand if the problem is the same of this: [URL] Â Any way i do not understand with after using -convert point tool- the tool -Direction tool- (2) do not leave me to manage both the direction handles (3). I try to upload a screenshot: Â (1): how work Direction tool (it moves both the direction handles).
I vacuumed my keyboard while in photoshop... nice move, I know. Anyway I got almost everything back to normal execpt...
while using the brush tool and I alt click to cahnge the color to the new sampled color but it now goes to the background color instead of foreground color. It also goes to background color when I use the regular peye dropper.
how to shut that off or change it so it goes to the foreground instead of background.
In Indesign CS6 using Mountain Lion, the hand tool appears and I can't select or work with any other tool. All I can do is move the document around. After trying the space bar and other key commands I restarted and it worked for a while. Then it happened again. I work on a Macbook pro, so when I removed the mouse and worked only with the trackpad there was no change. When I quit and reopened, no change. I then deleted prefs and restarted and it worked, but it's been happening from time to time. Any other fix without restarting or deleting prefs.
I've been using PS and PSE since 2003 so I'm not what you'd call a new PSE user. I upgraded to PSE9 a few years ago but now I can't get the clone stamp to work correctly. I keep getting black spots on the distracting elements that I want to remove. I've gone through Scott Kelby's PSE9 book a million times but still can't get the tool to work correctly. All I get are the black spots. I'm working on photo submissions and time is running out. Here's what I'm doing.  1) First I select the Clone Stamp tool and then the brush size I want to use (usually around size 45)  2) Then, I sample the area just to the left of the distracting element that I want to remove. (I use Alt + left click)  3) Then I run the tool over the distracting element and left click. But instead of getting my sampled area clone, I get a black spot.  I thought that maybe I was using too big of a brush but that's not the case. So, what the heck am I doing wrong or is there some kind of an update or tool that will allow me to remove distracting elements more easily?
Currently in PS and Camera raw, double-clicking the Hand tool fits the document and double clicking the zoom tool zooms to 100% (1:1 pixels)
This isn't good since it's completely unusable:
- dbl click zoom shows 100% - there's nothing to zoom, since it's zoomed... - dbl click hand shows the image fit to window - the hand tool wouldn't make anything  switch the current double click behavior on Zoom and Hand tools so:
- dbl click hand shows 100% (1:1 pixels) so I can look around and see details
- dbl click zoom shows fit to window so I can zoom in to a region I want
I just started using illustrator CC and realize that when I clcik Transform tool button, the program crashes. It shappens even if no document is open. Â I am using a mac with OS 10.7.
