View 3 RepliesAt random moments when I'm saving layered Photoshop CS5 files, a message pops up with the following text: Could not save "...FileName..." because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the 'Properties' command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file.
Well the strange thing is that I'm the administrator, the only user of this PC and even when I set/check the properties of the folder containing the files this continues to happen. What is even more disturbing is that I have to save my file as a new file in a new location and when I check the original file, it is no longer in it's original folder.
I save all my files to the local HD and I use an external device to backup my files. I regularly get notices on my backup device telling me that various files were deleted, but will be kept until I need the room. These are files which I did not delete, they are files which I'm still working on.
I'm having to save to the original job folder first, save to the desktop when I get the notice saying I can't save, and then save back into the original folder when I can't save on the desktop anymore because of the same error message. I sometimes get a similar Adobe error message which is basically along the same lines, but I haven't noted the exact text yet.
I no longer run my back up continuously while I'm working because while it's great to have the peace of mind that I'm regularly backed up, my files can get up to 2GB in size and I think the backup running at the same time is slowing Photoshop processes down, so I most often pause it until I take a break. On this occasion, I had been running it while working (smaller file) and so I was able to retrieve an earlier version from my backup which saved me from having to re-do the job completely. I didn't get this problem when I was using CS5 on Vista, it's been since I've been using Windows7 and my back up drive.
I only recall having had this problem with PSDs, but that could just be because these files can take up to ten hours to complete and there's a higher chance of getting an error message over a longer period of time.
I'll disconnect my back up drive while I'm working and see how it goes. It's not ideal, but probably worth a try.I don't know if there's a connection, but occasionally windows randomly sticks a lock on zipped folders which I create, regardless of the permissions I apply to the upper level folder they sit in. I'm told by a friend that it won't affect other people accessing these zipped folders from other machines. I don't know if that's the case, I always change the zipped folder's permission to include 'Users' and that makes the lock disappear.

FOLDER 2:

The goal is to create edited (resized black/white) COPY of each file in each folder without resaving original file. So it must look like:
FOLDER 1:

2 copy.jpg

3 copy.jpg
Folder 2:

-- I can write without problems Action for each special folder, but it take too many time to make 1000 Actions like 1000 folders I have. The problem is in SAVE AS command wich I use in Action. It remembers folder witch was used while recording. Then if I try "Override SAVE AS" option in the Batch window I get edited original files without creatig copies.
I can choose destination NONE, SAVE AND CLOSE, FOLDER. Simply, what I need is SAVE AS COPY AND CLOSE.
I have an action which applies Levels and Curves to my black and white TIFFs. At the end it "saves as" a JPEG. Originally it saved them at quality level 10 but I re-recorded the action to set the quality at 12. However, since this change the action keeps saving as into the folder where the image I used for the re-recording was located.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt doesn't always happen but when I use save for web to save an image it goes through all the motions as normal but when I go to view the image, I find that it hasn't overwritten the original file. It has happened to other people in the studio too so it might be something to do with our setup?
View 4 Replies View RelatedInstalled Elements 12, converted catalog but now my sub folders are shown as main folders in Organizer folder view. How can I get back my original folder/sub folder system? When I look at Windows folders my system is as it was so the two don't match any more. On searching further came across more info on Community-powered support for Photoshop Family and it seems Adobe have removed the option of sub folders.

View 1 Replies View RelatedURL....I am using PSE 12 as a photo editor for Aperture 3.5.1 and the photo is duplicated (as a tiff) in Aperture and PSE editor opens with the image. When I close the file and say to save the file it brings up the save as window.
I tell PSE 12 to "on first save -- save over current file" it now brings up the "save as" window and won't save over the file (changes the file type from .tiff to .tif)
I need to convert a large number of images to png and need to later sort them by the original date created. "Save as" results in the current date/time as the date created. CS5.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been asked to work with a blogger who until now has accepted images to their size uncompressed of resized. We've got around the problem of the max image size by using the plugin Insanity. Which has done a great job however what it doesn't do is re sample the images for the web.
Usually if I blog myself, I always save for web but I'm having real trouble, real real trouble creating an action that will save for web to the original folders instead of a separate one.
The thing is that there are so so many images in so many different folders and sub folders these must be modified and replaced ready for re upload.
I imoprted raws into LR 4. Edited them, exported them as JPGS to a designated folder w/ different name on the desktop. Went back into the original Edit folder and it was empty. This was a backup folder (wheew..) so I have it on another drive/ the original work. Question: LR 4 doesn't move or alter the originals, yes? So where are they? This wasn't an issue in LR 2 or 3..
View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows 7, LIghtroom 4.4 - when exporting files all works fine when I set the output location to be the same folder as original. If I select 'Specific Folder' then press 'Choose' LR then Lightroom stops working. I've upgraded to LR 5.3 but the same thing happens.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a preset that allows me to export my photo to a subfolder of the original folder. In my case it's simply called jpg export. This allows me to do all my edits when the shot is in it's original "Date taken" folder and all my edited shots from that folder show up in the jpg export folder when I run the preset. My issue is that the jpg shows up in BOTH the original folder and the jpg export folder. I know it's operator error but what's wrong with my settings? Under Export Location I have Export To: Same folder as original photo (this is the reason for my problem but I am not sure what to change it to) Put in Subfolder: is checked and the folder is called jpg export. Add to This Catalog: is also checked.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter I edit photos in an external editor, my photo is moved from its original location in the folder, to a different one. The photo stays within the same folder but is moved to a new location within it. This is really annoying as I have a couple thousand photos from a trip to Europe I have been going through, and after my external editor closes and I am returned to LR, I have to find the photo which has been moved to some random spot so I can put it back to where it originally was. I want to keep my photos organized by location, so it really sucks when my photos from Turkey end up with my photos from Hungary. How I can stop this???

View 6 Replies View RelatedIn LR, my photos are stored in folders named by date. Ex : 20120913
Sometimes, I run over photos that are not where they belong. Ex : a picture from 2010-01-01 misplaced in the 20110720 folder.
I am sure there are quite a few misplaced pictures in my catalog.
Is there any easy way to find them and move them where they belong ?
I am travelling to the UK and wish to export my photograph collection as a catalogue to my laptop (without the original photos) and work on organising them, deleting unwanted photos, etc and then reimport the catalogue on my return. My question is this - if I delete a photo whilst on my laptop, on reimport into my main computer will lightroom then go and delete this photograph from my original collection as I hope it will do?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAND/OR a open tab recovery cache or way to extract the images that get lost during a crash of PDN.
Number two on my list behind your fantastic new layer functionality that I had been dreaming about for three years. I NEVER close PDN. The ONLY time it closes is once every week or two when the 20, 30, 50 tabs that I have open, finally overwhelm my system. I bounce back and forth so much that there is no way to continuously save them as I make changes cause it would jack up my workflow by taking up too much time.
No way around it, this is just how I work. It would be lovely if PDN was able to, similar to After Effects, popup an error box saying it was about to crash and did 'you" want to save the session. Especially, now, with 4, as while it is a super duper version upgrade, the crashes were daily, with me, and I couldn't keep losing that much data. Sophie's choice, for me. The old layer window or daily crashes.
I just noticed that some of my photos are missing from the library in lightroom, specifically the original versions of photos that have virtual copies edited in photoshop in folders that have since been synchronized. Weird, and very anoying. The files are still there (in wondows explorer) but when I try to re-import them lightroom doesn't see them, only the PS edited copies (.tif files). I told lightroom to allow duplicates and it sees all the photos in the folder except those missing ones. This does not happen to my PS edited virtual copies in folders that have not been synchronized. It is not a matter of stacking, or at least Lightroom does not think the PS copies are stacked at all so I can't unstack them. How to get them back into lightroom (preferably with the accompanying development settings) and also how to avoid this problem in the future.
PS: I import files from my camcorder using a different program because lightroom does not acknowledge that particular video file format. That's why I have to synchronize some folders and not others.
I am trying to copy big assembly with its folders from one folder to another.I cant use Copy Design because I get too long path error.
Alternative way of copying files and keeping its relationships?
I'm trying to save a gif. but if I save optimized, it makes the colours go weird. I just want to save the original but photoshop isn't giving me that option!
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I edit a photo in Photoshop from Lightroom 4 and save it back to Lightroom, the photo ends up somewhere else in the folder than it's original location. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a folder structure with 30+ image galleries and the client uploaded original files form their DSLR - causing them to display slowly on their website.
I have an action that changes the images to fit in a 800x800 size, "Save for the Web" over the original image.
This works just fine and if I run it on one directory I'm ok - but I would like to run it on all 30+ directories with a batch command.
I see that I can tell the batch to run on all subs, bit the issue is that it is saving the file in the directory specified int he action.
I know I can override the destination, but that only allows me to select one directory?
I need the images to stay in their original directories?
One more note - I know I can use the Image Processor script, but this is goign to use the Save As command vs the Save for the Web - the differance in file size is significent. ie. in my example file the Save As image at a Quality of 5 is 36K and the Save for the Web at a quality of 45 is 14k - with over 3,000 images to process and store this is a huge differance.
I open a PS file. I chose 'Save As' but uncheck 'Show Layers' in the dialog box. So now it's essentially a 'Save A Copy'. When the new file is saved the original file is written to (although nothing changed) and now has the same modification date as the 'Save A Copy' file. Super strange and causing issues. Because if one flattens or does anything to the original file, those changes are baked into the original file!

I'm working with a .jpeg-logo that came for a different application.
I opened it in Photoshop 7.0, did a little lightening and cropping, and was going to save it again as it was.
But when trying to save it back I can't seem to be able to do that in the excact same compression format as the original. Whatever way I choose, the box with jpeg-properties pops up. It defaults at quality "5" which gives a marginally smaller filesize but noticeably less visual quality. When putting it at "6" it looks about the same as the original, but not entirely right and at a larger filesize.
Is there no way to just edit it and save it back, without messing with the compression?
I opened my catalog today and went to one of my folders (2011/9 September). I noticed that there were pictures in the folder that did not belong and had the wrong name attached to them. I was surprized so I right clicked selected "Show in Finder" the folder 2011/9 September opened the photo was not in the folder.
Knowing the folder it should be in I went there and sure it enough it is there with it's original name.Went back to lightroom optimized the catalog... still there. Deleted folder in Lightroom, reimported, but the files came back.
The folder on the finder has 96 pictures, the folder in Lightroom shows 146.I can deal with removing the 40 odd files in this situation but I am afraid it will occur in one of the folders where there are a couple of thousand images. All my other folders seem fine for now, what would cause this issue?
I'm using the save for web function to save a large number of files (not batch saving)usually, when I open a file and start saving for web, it will remember the folder that I most recently exported to, and by default open that folder for that file, until I "save for web" into a different folder.
Out of seemingly nowhere, the save for web seemed to "forget" this folder (and any other folder I tried to save to), and now defaults to the "Documents" folder, causing me have to click through to find my intended destination folder. I'm on CS5 & Mac running Mountain Lion. On my work computer (exactly the same, Mac + Mountain Lion) I am using CS6 and have not encountered this issue.
