View 2 Replieshow to import photos directly unto my EHD via LR. I don't like my images touching my internal hard drive because it slows it down so much. This was never a problem when I used my PC. Two weeks ago I switched to a MAC and now when I plug in my EHD to attempt to import pictures onto it from my Nikon D7000, it states that it cannot read the files. WHen I import them to my internal HD they work fine, it's only when I try to import onto my EHD.

Do i need to select some setting somewhere to recognize photos in iphoto?
I just installed PSE 11 and I would like to move the pictures from my iPhoto 9 Library in to PSE 11.
What is the best way to accomplish this as far as accuracy of data?
I've got Photoshop Elements 6 on my iMac desktop running OS X 10.7.4. When I click on File>Open in PE6, my iMac Finder opens. I then select Photos and all my iPhoto and Photo Booth files open. But I cannot click on (well, I can click on them but nothing happens) any photo to pull it into PE6. It seems a simple operation, but apparently not for me!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't import directly from an XQD card into Lightroom on my laptop (Windows 7). The images appear in the import window, but I get the following message when trying to import: "The following files were not imported because they could not be read." I can move the files over to the hard disk where Lightroom can import them but only by using the "Add" function. This precludes my adding the date to the file name and converting the files to DNG. The funny thing is I can import them into my desktop, but it has less memory and an older processor which during the import often exceeds the memory capabilities and corrupts the image file.

Lightroom does not appear to recognize my pics in the Mac iphoto library. I can import from other folders/files but not directory from iphoto. Likewise I can't export a photo back into iphoto once it has been "developed" in Lightroom.
Do I have to change some preferences or something?

I'm running Lightroom 4.1, on Lion.
First thing I try to do after loading Lightroom 5 and I am stumped! I cannot import my iPhoto files. I have gone to Finder and attempted to copy my "Masters" file in iPhoto Library. Finder will not allow me to make a copy. I am using iPhoto 11, v9.4.3.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I use LR to import the RAW files directly from a CF card, there are preview images (but I don't know how to import and save to a different HDD yet so I am still transferring files with Nikon Transfer NX)), but if I use Nikon Transfer to move the NEFs to the HDD, LR reports that it can't read the RAW files. I am using the same NEF format as what I use with ny Nikon D300 (14 bit, uncompressed) and LR will read those files.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNormally I import as RAW, and then convert to DNG; today is first time that I've Imported/Copied directly to DNG.
Using LR5, I "Copy to DNG" a bunch of images from my CF Card, that I shot over the weekend. In Grid view, under the Histogram, I noticed the icon "Originals without Smart Previews" had a 1, "Originals + Smart Previews" had a 0, "Smart Previews" has a 0, and "Missing" also has a 1 next to it. Admittedly, I forgot to check the "Build Smart Preview" check box, so I Library -> Previews -> Build Smart Previews. After the process finished, I now have "Originals without Smart Previews" - 0, "Originals + Smart Previews" - 1, "Smart Previews" has a 0, and "Missing" - 1. When I go into Develop module, under the Histogram I also see "[!] Photo is Missing". When I Right-Click and select "Show in Finder" it takes me straight to the original, in the correct folder location that I Copied/Imported into. I've also done "Find All Missing Photos" and re-synchronized the folder. Nothing has changed.
I'm trying to transition away from iPhoto to Lightroom. Honestly I've always liked iPhoto. I've found it very easy to use, and the way it organizes photos into "events" is very useful. However, I'll be doing most of my photo work on a PC, so I'm moving over to Lightroom instead.
I have already exported all of my iPhoto library. Each event has its own folder (named after the event), and all the photos have their meta data. Everything is copacetic.
My question is a matter of organization of the photos within Lightroom. In iPhoto, all the events were listed chronologically, and this made it easy to locate what I was looking for. In Lightroom, however, it seems that the way you navigate photos is through the folder list under "Library," which is listed alphabetically instead of chronologically.
I currently have 136 separate folders. So I turn to you for a bit of advice since I am brand new to this program. Any way to organize and browse photos in Lightroom that I don't know about?
