I am getting this error when trying to edit photos from Lightroom with an external application. I am running Mac OS 10.8.2 and Lightroom 4.3 Pictures are stored on a NAS. Recently upgraded from MAC OS 10.6.8 and had no problem there for years. I have tried re-doing the permissions on the NAS files, but it didn't solve the problem.
View 2 RepliesAfter editing a photo in an external application, only the original raw file can be seen. The edited photo is hidden, even when searched for by name.
I have been reduced to the following workaround, which has the drawback of deleting all the original raw (.cr2) edits: Edit the photo; edit in external application; save and close. Back in lightroom, delete the raw file (from lightroom only); then close lightroom, reopen it and then at last I can see my edited file. Then I have to re-import the raw file and of course the edits have disappeared. But at least the final result can be seen.
The photos are supposed to be in a stack, but there appears to be a bug in this function because you can only ever see the raw file.
In addition tp adobe photshop i have a program i installed with my Canon XTI Digital called EOS Digital. Anytime I try to Browse and attach a photo I have to go to my pictures and some time the pictures are not there (the ones I downloaded into Adobe from my camera). There is a way to transfer the Adobe photos to this program but I forget how I did it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an external photo editor set up so when I choose "edit in" it goes to that editor, not photoshop. I am getting the following error "Unexpected error performing command: bad argument #1 to 'lower' (string expected, got nil)".
I have tried repairing and reinstalling the program to no avail. I have tried setting up a different program for the external editor, same problem.
This is working as it should in Lightroom 3.6.
When I right click on an image the 1st external editor is set to CS4, but CS4 has been uninstalled and I now have CS5.5 installed. Also open as a smart object in Photoshop, merge to panorama in Photoshop, Merge to HDR in Photoshop and open as layers in Photoshop are all greyed out. I have Lightroom 4.1 installed and CS5.5 Master Collection installed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a filmstrip of 500 plus images. Sometimes I need to "Edit in an external editor" on an image, in my case Elements 11. On selecting, EDIT IN, the original image plus the Elements 11 editied image move along to the end of the filmstrip. I then have to go to LIBRARY module, grid view and move both of these images back to their original location at the filmstrip. That is ok if you only have a few images but time consuming when you have 500 images.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUpdated to LR 4.2, then when switching to 'edit in' Photoshop CS5 getting "This version of Lightroom may require photoshop camera raw plug-in version 7.2". However, checking for updates in Photoshop CS5 says all up to date as does LR. In the dialog I would say 'Open Anyway' and at some point I must have clicked the button to no longer show this message.
Now when I 'edit in' PS and come back to LR there is no entry in History, it's blank. In the past I would see one entry 'edited in PS' and then make further LR edits from there if needed. What happens now if I make an edit in LR I can't 'Reset' back to the original 'edited in PS' to start over because that doesn't exist in History. If I reset it will reset just above the last LR edit. This is awaful and has screwed up my workflow. It's damaged several PS -> LR edited images.
After LR 4.2 upgrade LR still showed an older version of RAW. Somewhere after I unchecked that box to stop the message, now when I look it says Camera Raw 7.2 even though I didn't do any further updates, and both LR and CS5 had reported they were up to date.
EDIT/UPDATE: I just found 'Reset all dialog boxes' in LR preferences and now I get the message again. It appears before I checked the box 'Don't show again' the last time I also clicked 'Render using Lightroom' rather than 'Open Anyway' which I was doing before that.
Now PS CS5 About -> Plug-in - Camera Raw is 6.7.0.339 and Lightroom 4.2 is Camera Raw 7.2 (?)

Lightroom 4 has stopped recognizing the photos on my external hard drive. They do show up in Finder (Mac) as they have been.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI imported many photos from my external device (CF card or iPhone) manually, i.e. I think Lightroom does not recognize that I have already imported all those Photos.
Now I want to change my workflow and import them directly from the device. I want to use the functionality that only "new" Photos are shown and imported. However, Lightroom marks all thousands of Photos on my iPhone and CF card as new. How can I manually "unmark" all Photos on the card as "new" such that Lightroom will identify the "next" Photos as new but not the old ones?
How does the "new" detection algorithm work anyways? Will it work correctly if I move the imported pictures afterwards or delete some?

I have a new comoputer and want to reimport phoos on external drive. Must I reimport the photos and then look for a file with my work on those photos?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got LR4 on my MBP, but all my photos are on a network drive. I'm about to go on a two week trip but I'd like to work on photos for my son's baby book whilst there. The photos are all on a 6TB LaCie which I obviously can't bring with me, but I have a 1TB LaCie Rugged that I can bring along. I have LR set up such that I have all my son's photos organised by weeks and months, so I would like that set up preserved whilst I'm working away from home. So I thought one way was to copy the entire catalog to my 1TB LaCie, but how do I get it to sync with the photos in the network drive when I get back home? What's the best way of doing this? It's quite a big catalog as well, about 400GB of photos and videos. Previously what I did was to copy the entire catalog to a portable drive, but I ended up having multiple copies of the library in my catalog, i.e. the same picture folders on two different drives. I had to delete the portable drive from the catalog cos they were too many differences between the 2 drives and I couldn't keep up which was which.

I used to import hundreds of photos into folders and while reviewing them i could delete and individual photo and get a pop up message confirming "delete from disk". If I clicked that the file would be deleted and I could continue reviewing photos. Suddenly now when i delete a photo in the review process I get the first message, "delete from disk" and if I click that I get a second message now that says "The files are on a volume that does not support trash, permanently delete files from disk?" If I click that, my screen goes blank and I have to search where I was in the flow in reviewing the photos. It is impossible to quickly go thorugh and delete photos!!
I do not use preview to delete photos before they are imported, I feel I need to see the full file and then decide if I want to delete it.
when i import all my photos from an external hard drive LR4.4 will not include all the sub folders and some folders .. there are about 38,000 photos and the size of all the photos is 350 GB
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been storing my LR catalog and all photos on an external drive, which is now full. I got a new external hard drive and would like to move everything over. I started to copy and paste the root folder - which has all the photo folders and the LR catalog folder. If I copy and paste everything outside of LR and open the catalog in the new location, will LR recognize the photos in the new location?
I also read that the catalog could be moved to the new external hard drive (with LR closed) and the photos moved within LR by creating the root folder on the new and dragging and dropping each folder in Library mode.
I have many photos on my laptop and have a catalog set up through Lightroom 3.5. I decided the best way to store the photos is to keep them on an external hard drive so that I may work on them easily from any computer on my network. (laptop is frequently shut off) Is there a way to maintain /import/export/ edit the current catalog so that it works with the photos on the external drive? I would really hate to have to do the catalog with all the keywords all over again.
