Lightroom :: Import Photos Into External Drive Raw Format - Computer Clogged?
Jul 24, 2013
I import my photos into an external drive, raw format. . My computer has never run so slow. If I process those images, are they somehow on my main computer or still on the external drive?
I want to import photos off of a memory card onto an external hard drive and have that external hard drive linked up with adobe lightroom so I can work with the photos that are on my hard drive.
I have my LR library and catalog on an external hard drive. I have a new iMac with a 3TB hard drive and I want to move the library and catalog from the external drive to the computer's hard drive. Is this something that can be done with a drag and drop?
I have been editing and saving pictures on lightroom 3 to an external hard drive while working off an old laptop. I just recently bought a new computer and installed lightroom 3. How do I view and edit the same files on the external hard drive from the new computer?
I just switched from a Windows PC to a Mac. I downloaded the Mac software from the cloud and installed it. I have been keeping all my Raw images on a "Passport" external drive for the past couple of years. I've successfully tranfered my catalog to the Mac and I have no problems importing photos to the harddrive on the Mac. I don't want to keep Raw files on my harddrive because of their size. But, when I set LR to import to the external drive I get the message shown below.
When I try to import files from external drive I get message " the disc to which you are importing to is low on space" but I am importing from a different disc and not importing to that disc. The message is a hang up and no matter if I import to my catalogue I still get the same message, So how do I get rid of this hang up and import files again?
I am trying to import a file of RAW files from one of my external drives, it doesnt appear in the Lr folder panel, however when I try to import it the images are shaded. I have got the same images on another drive in the folders panel, could lightroom see this as suspected copies in which case how do you get around this?
I added all my photos on my external hardrive to my LR5 catalogue but every time I start LR5 it forgets where they are. When it shows the last known location it's still the same location.
I downloaded LR on through ACC. Basic panel is missing. How do I export all of my photos to external hard drive. Automatic backup also does not come up.
I work with an external drive in Lightroom 5. I used to import hundreds of photos into folders and while reviewing them i could delete and individual photo and get a pop up message confirming "delete from disk". If I clicked that the file would be deleted and I could continue reviewing photos. Suddenly now when i delete a photo in the review process I get the first message, "delete from disk" and if I click that I get a second message now that says "The files are on a volume that does not support trash, permanently delete files from disk?" If I click that, my screen goes blank and I have to search where I was in the flow in reviewing the photos. It is impossible to quickly go thorugh and delete photos!!
I do not use preview to delete photos before they are imported, I feel I need to see the full file and then decide if I want to delete it.
I am trying to import photographs from an external hard drive to LR4.1. The photos appear to come over ok and be available as long as the external hard drive is connected. Once it's disconnected, however, the photos are still in LR, but each has a line that says "The file named XXXX is offline or missing." What do I need to do to ensure that the photos are moved to the right place in LR so the entire file will be there, without the external hard drive connected?
I have a Seagate external drive and get an import error wen i try to import images from a memory card. I always import to a new sub directory on the drive. The directory gets created properly and I can see the files get coppied to a temp directory in the directory I specified. The files then get removed and the temp directory is deleted but nothing shows up in the primary directory.
I have verified I can import to other external drive, the other two are WD. I can also import to the internal drive.
I have been storing my LR catalog and all photos on an external drive, which is now full. I got a new external hard drive and would like to move everything over. I started to copy and paste the root folder - which has all the photo folders and the LR catalog folder. If I copy and paste everything outside of LR and open the catalog in the new location, will LR recognize the photos in the new location?
I also read that the catalog could be moved to the new external hard drive (with LR closed) and the photos moved within LR by creating the root folder on the new and dragging and dropping each folder in Library mode.
I have many photos on my laptop and have a catalog set up through Lightroom 3.5. I decided the best way to store the photos is to keep them on an external hard drive so that I may work on them easily from any computer on my network. (laptop is frequently shut off) Is there a way to maintain /import/export/ edit the current catalog so that it works with the photos on the external drive? I would really hate to have to do the catalog with all the keywords all over again.
I store my photos on an external hard drive. Recently, I inadvertantly imported five days of photos into the catalogue but stored them on my laptop's internal hard drive. I'm trying to move the photos and thumbnails down to the external hard drive so they'll be there when I plug back into my desktop. how to move them from the internal hard drive to the external?
I would like to take my existing photo's on an internal drive and move them to an external drive. I would like to leave my catalogue where it is on my internal drive. I would then like to use smart previews to allow me to edit my photo's with or without the external drive connected and have the photo's automatically sync'd when the external drive is re-connected.
I've created a BIG catalogue with photos from various drives. And each time I've used "export" to copy the photos to an internal drive on a brand new computer with a huge drive.
I'd like the main catalogue to ALL refer to the files on the new huge drive?
longtime lightroom user mac 10.7.5 upgraded to 4.4 and now cannot import to designated catalog on external 4TB drive with good permissions on the drive and folders.am able to import to other drives, but not the one I mentioned?
My computer: MacBook Pro Retina16GB ram Software latest updated os Xlightroom 5 Camera canon 5D MII
When importing 300 raw pictures from the camera with LR5, the software crashes 10(!) times. I import the pictuers to a external HDD. The pictures where converted to the DNG-format.
When importing with the photoloader from mac os x everything went fine.
Using Elements 11 - My photos are taking over my hard-drive and I want to safely transfer all my photos and videos to an external hard-drive. How do I do it without loosing info and/or later having to re-connect thousands of pictures?
Lightroom 4 catalog does not recognize photos when external hard drive switched to a different USB port. The photos are in My Photopraphs in an external hard drive. I recently had to switch ports and now the catalog can't find the photos.
It seems that a powerful tool like Lightroom (on top of a powerful Adobe suite) should allow a developer to import a client's catalog from Photoshop Elements on an external hard drive. Everything I've read in the support and forums indicate I need to have Photoshop Elements installed on my own machine, and that reading off a network drive is not possible.
I do not want my C drive involved with LR except for the catalog.
What I try to do is create a folder on my D drive and copy files from my CF card to a folder on the D drive. On import I select the newly created folder and import from there. Somehow LR does not want my photos on the D drive but on the C drive.
I cannot find a way to do this which is important because my C drive is under stress with Windows 7 64 and I don't have a lot of room to spare.
I know this is probably very basic but every time I create a folder on the D drive and import the photos are actually in My Pictures folder on the C drive.
when i import all my photos from an external hard drive LR4.4 will not include all the sub folders and some folders .. there are about 38,000 photos and the size of all the photos is 350 GB
