Lightroom :: How To Automatically Delete Images From Flash Card
Dec 13, 2011
I'm just starting to use lightroom, and one of the features I'm looking for is the option to automatically delete the images from my flash card after they have been imported. Is there a hidden option to do such a thing?
Just installed Lightroom 4, more than 60000 images were imported. Many of them were duplicates, triplets and so on. I want to have a clean, unincombured library. Should I delete the 60000 images and reinstall the images from my photo digital cards or use the slow process of "X" out the unwanted images? I would like to start improving my images vs removing the unwanted images.
Lightroom 5.0 fails to detect memory card and open import dialog. This has always worked fine in Lightroom 4, 3,and 2. Same cards, same camera, same iMac using OS X 10.8.4. Manual importing works OK, card is detected just fine.
I shoot raw/jpg. I viewed in Digital Photo professional and transferred a Tiff to photoshop. I saved the image on a seperate disc. when I opened and tried to save again I received an error saying I didn'thave permission. I finally saved the psd version by changing the name of the picture. when I went back to the raw file on my flash card it was gone. when I went back to the tiff file that was gone to. the only file I have left is the jpg back up and the psd version. All the other pictures are still on both the flash card and my backup drive except this one. I've done recovery searches and they recover everything i've deleted from the flash card except the file I need. I don't understand why this happend. I've tried searching for hidden files etc. I didn't delete this file. the recovery program shows that it is there it just won't get it. it gets everything else but not this one. both the raw and the tiff files disappeared from two different drives. I want to get the raw file back.
The color space on the selected images appears to be changing when I use the Lightroom flash gallery in the web module of LR4.1. This stays the same when the gallery is uploaded. In previous version of LR I have seen color changes in the web module but they have been corrected (and correct) when the gallery is uploaded to the 'net.
I have read that this was (previously) a problem with the flash gallery specifically becuase it was not colour magaded, but I understood that this had been corrected for LR4. As far as my use is concerned it's actually more problematic now than it has been previously.
Just tried to import some images from an SD card (using a card reader) as I normally do and the import freezes on "importing files". Before import the thumbnails shows and I have tried a different SD card. Is this a bug? do I need to re-install LR?
Just come back from a photo trip and tried to import my images into Lightroom from my SD Card and Lightroom doesn't see them, all it see's are the images I took on Saturday.
Today I arrived at my location to photograph Pasque Flowers, I took 1 image then realised I hadn't deleted the images from Saturday so I used the 'Delete Images From Card' in my camera's menu and then proceeded to take a few hundred images. During the day I reviewed my images several times, so I know they were definitely saved to the SD Card.
When I got home I tried to import my images in to Lightroom and all Lightroom saw on the card were the images I took last Saturday.
I tried closing down Lightroom and opening it again - nothing, just the images from Saturday!
I tried using the SD Card reader on my iMac - again, just Saturday's images were found.
I then put my card back into my camera and all I could see were my Pasque flower images from today.
So it seems my camera see's todays images yet Lightroom only sees the images from Saturday I had deleted via my camera's menu at the start of today.

I am a Canon shooter and a seasoned Lightroom user. About a month ago my Mac stopped allowing me to import images from my CF card into Lightroom. I have worked with Mac and Adobe to no avail. At this point I know that my Mac can see the card and will me allow me to download images into iPhoto. It will generate thumbnails in Lightroom, but will tell me that it's unable to read the images when I try a complete import. If I switch users on my Mac to a dummy user, I am able to import the same images off my CF card. To my knowledge, I didn't changed any settings, at least not intentionally.
I plugged canon 1D mark IV with LR 4.3 for tether shooting. it works great. However, I realized that there is no image save on my CF card. All images were transferred to the computer via tethering. I really want to keep a copy of the card for logistics reason. I couldn't find any setting on LR preference regarding this.
When I import images from my memory card, the images in preview are colored but when rendered in LR4, they are automatically converted to black and white. I made sure that in the import panel that 'Import During Import'> Develop Settings> None. My images show up in LR4 colored for an instance then convert to black and white. This is the first time I have encountered this problem. Am I missing something. I've checked my camera settings with nothing that I believe is the problem. I've been successful in using the other presets under 'Apply during Import' > Develop Settings, but using 'None' doesn't prevent the images from being converted to black and white in LR4. the same is true for importing to Bridge in PS-CS6. I get the same results of all the images being converted to black and white.
All of a sudden LR4 will not import my images from camera card, whereas I-Photo has no problem. I get the message " Some import operations were not performed. the following files were not imported because they could not be read (all images on the card are listed). I have re-downloaded LR 4 and restarted my mac (OSX 10.8.5). LR also will not let me import the same images from I-Photo , it gives the same message as when using the camera card..
I tend to keep adding images to my memory card until it is nearly full. I then reformat the card for future use. I do this for a couple of reasons, firstly if any of my image or backup file fails, I've got the option of downloading the image from the card again. Secondly, I like to ensure that all the storage locations on the card are used equally, to even out "wear."
I download using a Sandisk 'Extreme' USB2 card reader. Opening the Lightroom Import dialog, I have the box marked "Don't import suspected duplicates" ticked. I'm downloading a card which has a lot of previously imported images, plus a number of new images. Previously, the suspected duplicate images have been greyed out and only the new images are highlighted and only the new images download.
Just recently, despite the "Don't import suspected duplicates" box still being ticked, none of the already downloaded images is greyed out and ALL the images will download. I haven't made any other changes to the program or preferences, so I'm a bit puzzled as to exactly what is going on. I now have clear the check box for ALL the images and then just select the new images for import.
I am using LR 4.4 with Windows Home Premium 64-bit.
I just downloaded LR4 and when I plug in my card reader the images will not open and the icons on the upper rt and upper left are not present. How can I resolve this to show my images so they can be seen and selected?
I had yesterday a photoshoot, today I was importing my images from my CF card to my local drive C: with Lightroon 4... Everything was fine, till a moment I get an error of Windows: "you need to format the disk in drive before you can use it."
I rejected my card, insterted in my dslr to check if picture still available, but on my screen I see the same error message 'Format first the card to use it'
50% of my images are not imported and I need them.
Trying to import images as dng and crashes my computer. It writes to a temp folder and cannot delete the temp folder bc there is error in writing to it. Mac OSX. Have done this many time with no problem. I can make adjustments inside the program and when I export the modified images to another folder it writes to a temp folder as well. but doesnt crash the system.
It seems as if there is no rhyme of reason as to how the import process presents the previews to select for import. I did s shoot last night and the images are spread out over different areas between other photos that I took in the past. Shouldn't they just be sorted by image name so they are presented together?
I am suddenly getting the error message "No images on the memory card meet the download conditions" when I try to import my pictures into Lightroom 5. My other cameras are importing to Lightroom as always... just fine. I have tried a direct import from the camera and also an import with my card reader and I get the same message. I have also changed cards with this camera and get the same error message.
I have tested the card reader, another card (which also imports images on a angle), and importing images through Iphoto - incidentally importing images correctly. The images are fine viewed on the back of my D800. I'm thinking it must be the upgrade as I've never experienced this before.
I am interested in shooting with my D700 and lightroom 3 tethered. Is it possible for the image to be recored both on the card and on the tethered computer?
For my particular workflow, I find that loading thumbnails as step 1 of the import process to not be of much value for me.
I would prefer to load all images from the camera CF card directly into my "Import" folder in Lightroom without having to first view and select images for import.
Step 2 for me would then distribute the images into other named folders in LR prior to the development, skipping the thumbnail phase of the process.
So, the Q: Is there any setting that allows importation into a selected folder in LR without first going through the thumbnail process?
LR 5.3New 2013 iMac with 3T fusion driveOS X Mavericks I migrated all of my apps, files, etc from a 2007 iMac, following Apple's procedure. To take advantage of the speed of the fusion drive, I moved my image files from a La Cie external drive to the iMac's fusion drive. (Yes, I am backed up, triply backed up with both external backup drives and cloud backup.) There were a few hiccups, but I straightened them out and now can access every one of my images, process, etc.
But...since the migration and importation to the iMac internal fusion drive, I cannot delete images. When I'm sorting, I use the X key to mark images for deletion. Then, when I use the standard cmd-delete key combination, I get the standard window offering me the option of just removing the image from the catalog or deleting it from the disk. When I select the latter (since I don't want rejected images clogging my hard drive), a new window appears: The file named "___" could not be moved to the trash folder."
The problem occurs only since the migration and moving of the images to the new drive.
I have tried numerous fixes suggest in various forums—create a new folder, then delete it to create a channel for LR; check permissions; repair permissions; run various commands through terminal. It's maddening because I sometimes reject a few hundred images at a time, and there's simply no reason to retain them on my drive.
how do I delete several images at once from (disk) instead of one at a time its killing me with 1,000 photo imports sometimes...I need to know how select several images at once when importing and how to delete once images have already been imported.
I have LR 4.2 on Windows 7 x64 (having recently upgraded from LR3).After flagging images in a collection as rejected I want to remove them from disk.In LR3 I just clicked Ctrl + Backspace and I had the option to delete from disk or just remove from catalogue, I don't get that option in LR4
worked fine in LR3. I've searched the preferences and can't see any option, I've also clicked "reset all dialogues" in case that was hiding the option but still nothing. I've tried in Library and Develop and no option still, I can only remove from catalog
