Lightroom :: Sync Spots Not Working In 5.3
Dec 12, 2013
Spot syncing with "no" spots is not working in Lr5.3 (did not work in 5.2 either)
If I reset the spotting on a source photo and sync the "NON" spotting to a target photo that has spotting, the spotting is not cleared as it should be on the target photo.
If I reset the spotting on a source photo and put ONE new spot in the source photo and sync this ONE spot to a target photo that has spotting, all the spotting is removed from the target photo and the ONE spot is the only one in the target photo as expected.
Shouldn't the sync of spotting always work the same, with or without spotting in the source photo?
I think this should be considered a bug or at least a design flaw. OSX 10.8.5 LR5.3

Just upgraded to Lightroom 5. Hadn't used 4 in awhile, but I don't remember ever having this issue in 4.
I am working on multiple images where there are dust spots in the exact same locations, so I am using the heal brush on one, and applying the results to multiple images by syncing "Spot Removal". Sometimes it works, and other times I am left with a strange mark that looks more like a brush stroke. The "Spot Removal" sync is not working.
The images are extremely similar, so the original heal brush (and the chosen source spots) should work fine on all images - that is not the issue. I am syncing hundreds of images at the same time - don't know if that is part of the problem, however I can sync just 2 images that are right next to each othe - sometimes it works fine, sometimes it doesn't.
May go back and try Lightroom 4 again, as I see lot's of issues with Lightroom 5 on forums.

I am using Lightroom 4.4 on a 2013 Macbook Air OS 10.8.4.
I cannot see the Switch enables auto sync on the Metadata sync button. Its currently visible on another machine a MacPro with Lightroom v4.3. I find this useful to be bale quickly enable and disable the syncing of metadata. Has this been dropped in v4.4 or have I missed a prefs setting somewhere?

I am trying to adjust two D800 files simultaniously. Thus I select both images, toggle the Sync button to the Auto Sync state.
But, the adjustments done to the most selected image do not copy over to the other image, while this is the expected behaviour.

I have a ~8.1MP image that I want to get printed on a pretty large scale. However, there are a few spots on the image that I am going to need to remove.
(Picture file here.)
There are 4 large black spots (circled) that I am sure should not be there. I am pretty sure they were smudges on the camera lens, because I have the entire set of images that was shot in this same jump, and those 4 spots are in the same place in all of them.
However, there are also a lot of white-ish spots scattered about the upper half of the image that seem to be mainly near the ends of the "sun-star effect" (which is one of the coolest parts of this picture, IMO). They don't seem to be present in the other pictures from the set, but perhaps they are also lens smudges and only show up in this one because there is such bright light hitting the lens, making them noticeable.
Are the white spots part of the attractive sun-star and should stay?
Are they smudges on the lens and should go?
Are they part of the sun-star but should go regardless because they don't look good?
Does the sun-star even look good or am I crazy?
Bonus question #1 - Are the red, yellow, and blue "hexagons" (noob terminology here) attractive? I kind of like them, but what do photo pros think of these things? Lens flares, they're called, right?
Bonus question #2 - Should I make the image brighter, so more color in the jumpers and their suits can be seen? Or should it remain this dark, since it is in fact a silhouette?
Before I spend the $25 to make a poster-sized print for my wall, I want to make sure I get the image looking good. The 4 black spots, I think I could probably remove without too much hassle (limited Photoshop skills here). But the white spots would be harder I think... for one thing there are many of them, and for another they occupy the same space as the sun-star, which I don't want to screw up.

The new version seemed to overwrite at least some settings. that were sync'd.
Flick panning and animated zoom were turned on, when these were off previously. Starting a new sync did ask me to pull my settings over from creative cloud.

Running LR5 on Win7, I can't see "Visualize Spots." I select the Spot Removal tool, but the Visualize Spots option does not appear below the preview. I can turn it on with the "A" keyboard shortcut, and the display does change to show the tool in action, but I still don't see the tool displayed below the preview (therefore, I can't adjust the strength). I do have the "Tool Overlay" option selected to show, and I don't see any other view setting or preference option that appears to affect it.

I have installed lightroom 5.3 on my desktop at home (upgrading from 5.2 and previous versions all the way back to V1). I do not get the menu showing visualize spots which is VERY frustrating since it will be a very useful tool. I ahve also installed 5.2 on my laptop and here I do get the tool.

What could be the reason that the dialog "visualize spots", which usually appears under the images after clicking the healing brush option, does not show up in LR5?? I have re-installed LR5 on my iMac but that did not work. After installing LR5 on my MacBook Air the dialog was there! How can this be? Are there any special settings which I have not considered yet?I know the shortcut is "A" and this one works, but then I have no slider.

After downloading the 5.3 LR upgrade I expected to have "visualize spots" below my image when using the spot remove tool. It is not there. Is there a menu option to bring it into view, or is there something wrong. (Mac mavericks 10.9 on MacBook Pro Retina)

I have just taken a 1000 shot series of images for a timelapse sequence. They all have a dust spot on them which is particularly annoying as I cleaned the sensor and thought it had been cleared!
Anyway, is there a way of batching a spot removal? Can I remove it on one, and then copy Develop Settings or Sync across the rest?

I have attached some pictures, you can notice the flash spots due to reflection on silver color. What's the best way to remove these spots and improve the photo quality. (I understand the best way is to shoot the photos in a specific environment to disallow this effect, but I am asking if there is away to edit it using Lightroom and remove the flash effect).

When using the adjustments brush to locally increase exposure(for example) it seems that not all pixels are covered. In the red display of the selected zone you can see black spots all over the zone that are not selected even after repeated use of the adjustment brush. The result looks like heavy noise and is pretty bad. I must say it gives the impression that it happens with "low light" pictures only!? Windows/XP3, Lightroom2.2

i've been able to import photos directly from my iphone by plugging my phone into the USB/iPhone cable (and then into my mac) and then doing "Import Photos from Device" and my iPhone would appear with the standard grid of photos. Ive imported a thousand photos or so from my phone that way.
when i plugged my phone in and tried to import my photos, in LR 4.1 (not 4.2), many of the new photos said "no preview available". I thought that was odd, so i thought i'd disconnect and then reconnect the phone.
At that point, the import screen says "no photos found".The photos are still available on the phone itself, but not in LR. I rebooted and upgraded to LR4.2, but still i'm getting the same thing.

I easily found the Sync Settings function (to cloud) in Photoshop, but cannot find it in Lightroom. Lightroom is also not listed here: [URL].......
Is it not featured? If so, why? I've lost user presets before, and was expecting this to be part of the CC package.

For the second time, which is two times too many, I've found myself browsing through images and noticed they were all starting to change. Essentially I've apparently instigated a sync settings command to too many images and it wasn't immediately noticable when it happened so I couldn't just do a Ctrl-Z to undo it. I want to make sure I'm not missing something that would allow me to sync all selected images back a step in History. I would think this would be an easy enough feature to add to any version of Lightroom (using LR3 for now because I'm waiting for the LR4 I purchased to get an update that might speed it up). I've checked out auto script programs but they're a bit unweildy and frankly Lightroom should have that feature available.

I keep my photos in a folder, with hundreds of sub-folders.
I use Photo Mechanic for tagging, selecting, purging and meta-data management becuase it is very fast. Then I import into LR by asking it to synchronize with the top folder.
The problem is that LR4 (and LR3 before it) identifies a couple of thousand photos as being "new" and needing to be imported, then when I tell it to Import by clicking the "Synchronize" button, it grunts for a minute or two and then comes back and says "No photos or videos were found to import". So if there is nothing to import, why does it keep saying there are 2,563 "new" photos? It hangs on this same number for weeks at a time, though it has crept up from LR3 when it was only about 1600.
Why is Synchronize out of sync? How can I get it really sychronized and keep it synchronized?
I have the box regarding JPGs adjacent RAW checked so that they are treated as separate images. I've tried checked and unchecked and it has no effect on this problem.

In Lightroom 4 develop mode, I have noticed that at the bottom of the righthand column there is a button, sometimes marked "sync" and at others marked "previous". It seems to change randomly between the two and I don't know why. I prefer it to be "previous". Why it changes and what I can do to return it to "previous" if it has changed to "sync"?

I keep my photos on two main drives: one archival drive which is the main storage for ALL my images and lives in my studio, and one that is my portable working drive which travels with me wherever I go. Using Lightroom 3, I import images during a shoot onto the portable drive, and then later I copy the images using Finder to the main archival drive. I don't do the copy while importing from my card because I don't have the time to wait during the shoot. Since I carry the portable drive with me, I make metadata and develop and other changes to the images from a particular shoot in Lightroom, all of which are saved to that portable drive.
My question is, is there a way to have Lightroom sync these changes over multiple hard drives? In other words, how do I sync all the changes I made to the images on my portable drive with the images I previously copied to my archival drive? If I make develop, metadata, and keyword changes to the images in a folder on my portable drive, the idea of having to do it all over again for the same folder on my archival drive seems intensely ponderous, and the idea of copying all the files again every time I make changes seems very time-consuming. Lightroom is so brilliant in so many ways, I'm hoping this is something it knows how to do as well.
To explain, the portable hard drive is a small USB powered drive that I can have with me at my day job or take with me to shoots, where I might find time to rate images, make develop settings, add keywords, etc. It's not possible to bring the archival drive with me everywhere, which means I work from the portable drive quite a bit. But I need for the archival drive to be in sync with the portable drive as much as possible, for obvious backup reasons.

I have several Catalogs, and, of course, the keyword lists are different for each, as they're embedded in each separate Catalog.
I have different versions of the same images in multiple Catalogs (suits my workflow), and would like to sync keywords for these images across Catalogs.
I tried Export Keywords from Catalog 1 and then Import Keywords into Catalog 2, but that results in a lot of duplication of keywords, as the hierarchical structures differ. Obviously, this method is not syncing but simply adding all the keywords from Catalog 1 as if they didn't exist in Catalog 2.
I thought to delete the entire keyword list from Cat 2 but this will remove them from the images as well - leaving me to redo the whole thing; not what I'm after!

Kelby's book shows how to edit a video in Develop by Capturing a Frame, then opening the Frame in Develop mode, selecting the video, and turning on Auto-Sync so that changes to the photo will also change the video. Not all edits are possible. I was hoping that cropping with the Rectangle tool would work, so I gave it a try. No luck. Indeed, LR5 tossed up an debugger-style error message.
An internal error has occurred. ?.0: attempt to perform arithmetic on a nil value.

I'm using an Eye-fi Pro X2 card in my D5100. At present Eye-Fi haven't been able to resolve the fact that geodata isn't added to the Raw (nef) file so I am shooting in Raw+jpeg. Is there a way to sync the metadata from the jpeg to the nef file within LR4? Will this be written to the raw file, to a sidecar file or the LR database?

In the import or sync dialog I see my photos, but after starting the import or sync the progress bar hangs at 100% and no new photos are in my katalog. I have tried to import from HDD and SD-Card reader, both end in the same problem. Import in a new katalog does not work either. No error message comes up and I have free storage space.

In Library Module of LR4.4 under Vista 32, I have corrected a "Capture Time" of a single jpg Photo via the "Edit Capture Time" dialog. The new date correctly shows up in the "Date Time Original" EXIF field of the Metadata panel on the right.
Now, I want to sync that date to other jpgs which all come with incorrect "Date Time Original" - so, I highlight the above photo, mark the other ones to less light grey, press "Sync Metadata". THe dialog of "Sync Metadata" appears, showing the new date under "ICPT image" as "date created" - so far so good. I mark that field, and press the ok button and the sync runs. After that, no change is shown to the respective field of any of the photos metadata fields to be sync'd, no sync has actually happened, and even the "Save Metadata to file" command does cure this situation.
Using the command with a single target file instead of multiple ones does not work either.
Why can't I update a set of superold pictures to their correct "date created" date via Metadata sync? This Metadata sync does not sync.

I realised too late that the two cameras my husband and I were using for a shoot were not in sync timewise (not sure what happened - they usually are), so all the photos from the event we shot are out of sync, which is causing me no end of problems. Any way to ask LR to account for the time difference so that the photos are in order, or otherwise to manually change the order (the less prefered option as will be time consuming, but better than nothing).
