I have a D800 & lightroom 4.1 will NOT open or recognize my photos. They were shot normally, not in live mode or video or whatever I read while searching for a solution.

I've been trying to figure this out for over a week since I got my D800 and am not making any progress. I am using LightRoom 4.1 and Adobe Camera Raw 7.1 on a Mac OS X v10.6.8.
I read that I need ACR 6.7 in order to recognize the D800 NEF files, but I don't know how to remove 7.1. I tried deleting ACR from my .library folder and reinstalling 6.7 but it still says it's 7.1 when I open up LR4.1 again. Also, I only have Photoshop CS5 and I read that 7.1 supports the D800 NEF files in CS6 only.
On a probably unrelated note, I bought the educational version of LR4 and when I go back to my email that contained the download link, it shows a blank page on "My Orders" even though I've purchased this and other educational versions from Adobe in the last few years. I got the LR4.1 download file and reinstalled after removing the release candidate I was checking out, but wasn't prompted for my registration code that was in my purchase email.
I have Photoshop CS5 Version 12.0 (x64). Photoshop recognises Nikon D 800 Raw files BUTBridge does not. I have tried updates but my Apple Mac Pro does not recognise them

NEF files created by the camera in 16:9 mode using the shutter release set to take stills (setting g4) cannot be previewed or imported in LR 4.
Setting g4 and the 16:9 mode are discussed in the Nikon D800/D800E User Guide on pages 324 and 68 respectively.
Photoshop with ACR 7.1 beta seems to be able to open these files.

I have followed Adobe's instructions to check that I have the correct RAW plug-in (7.0.0.308) which I have. I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled the software without success. I do not want to convert my RAW files into DNG files, so I have ignored that step.
The 'Open in Photoshop' instruction in Lightroom 4 does not open my D800 RAW files either, although the files can be opened in Lightroom 4 OK.
When I try to open a raw (NEF) image from my Nokon D800, I get an error box titled "Photoshop cannot open this file". I looked for updates after installing CS6 but none were found. What's the deal? I read that the D800 was supported in the CS6 release.

View 2 Replies View RelatedToday, while browsing through my Lightroom catalog looking for some older images, I noticed that LR5 could not open any images (NEF, CR2, JPG, TIFF, etc.) from mid 2010 and prior! The error message only says: "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo. You will not be able to make adjustments to the photo." !!! The thumbnails are all blank!
I was very surprised as I haven't used any other image editting sw for the last I don't know how many years. I wonder, are there any ways to reclaim these images. I have some precious photos of my mother before she passed away and don't want to lose them an any cost.
It seems all these files are somehow corrupted. The only thing I can think of is when I switched over to LR5 and the image catalog was updated, something in the process went wrong, though can't be 100% sure. I did try to open the files in a separate viewer (non adobe) but that also failed. I'm using a Macbook Pro with the latest OSX (Mavericks). The images are on an external encrypted drive. From 2010 onward, there are no issues and everything is available.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I right click on a photo in LR3 and click on 'edit in Photoshop CS4', it opens the dialogue box that it has always opened: 'This version of Lightroom may require Camera Raw version 6.5 to be fully compatible,' or something to that effect. I have never needed to worry about that, and have always been able to just click on OK and it has worked anyway, however suddenly it doesn't.
So I checked (just in case the issue was my version of Camera Raw) and I am running Camera Raw version 5.70.213
So I tried to update it to 6.5. I downloaded it (and the Adobe installer manager which it seemed to want me to install), but when I try to install 6.5 I get a message: 'This is not required'.So one message tells me it is required, and another won't allow it to install and says it is not required.
I don't seem to be able to install the latest version of Camera Raw (doesn't bother me as I don't use it - I use LR, except if it is causing this problem), and I have the problem of being unable to edit any of my LR catalogue in CS4.
I have installed and registered LR 5 ok but can't launch. Only a dialogue box asking to select a recently opened catalogue but there isn't one because I haven't had LR before. I just want to open the interface to import some photos but this same dialogue box keeps opening. This was not an upgrade version.

When I tried to activate the source to upload my photos - all when blank after 1 second of showing information (Photos) that were the previews. - then went blank.I stopped the process and ejected the card correctly through the finder. Thought I would try importing via image capture.
This was also a problem as the previews only showed as a flash of a second.I also notice that for some reason Lightroom 4 keeps on opening when importing photos and not Lightroom 5 - Though Lightroom 5 opens up when I edit other photos.
I previously had a D3000 and was able to open NEF files in Elements 9 with ACR. Having upgrade to a D3200, Elements 9 won't open or even recognize the NEF files. I have contacted Nikon, but they say that the files from the D3200 are 'not compatible'.
