Lightroom :: 4 - Still Can't Include Crop In Import Preset
Jan 11, 2012I was hoping that LR4 will be able to include cropping in import presets.
Still can't, very disappointing as I have to crop all images I import.

Is there a way I can save a custom crop preset to apply to images on import on Lr3.5?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to find my way, of how to submit my photos to the external lab for printing. Print module is kind of useless for me - the page setup is printer driver dependant and none of my installed printer drivers allows me to define borderless print and so LR does not allow me to set margins to zero. I think, that such desing limitation is pretty strange, especially if you just want to print to the jpeg file.
So - then I moved on to the crop tool. What a bunch of inconsistencies and design limits:
- LR seems to use some kind of catalog dependant storage, instead of just some for e.g. custom XML or other kind of list
- LR mysteriosly remember your last 5 settings. If you do a mistake, you need to reenter all of them again
- you can't even name your custom ratio settings - that's imo pretty much insufficient
- I need to set precious ratio setting for the Noritsu machine, so that I get exact resolution. Good for two of my settings, but when I try for my 13x18cm (2268 x 1625 pix), LR deletes my custom setting and marks 5x7 for me. But it is off by 10 pixels on one axis! Some strange rounding and matching was applied, but I can't it set exactly to what I need. Why does LR mess with what I want, if I select custom ratio?!
So I thought, that I might make a preset. I noticed, that when you copy setting from an image, there is a crop section. But - exactly the same dialog, which allows us to save settings, does miss a crop section. What a bummer! I found xy requests, where ppl were asking for the functionality few years ago. I am very negatively surprised, that it was yet not granted for implementation, especially as some of crop tool facilities are pretty arcane at best.
What I am now thinking about is to prepare three model images, make separate folder for them, and use them as a source for the cropping setting to copy from, but of course I would like the crop functionality to be enhanced/fixed.
A client has asked me to re-size all their photos to a 4:3 aspect. How can I add this to an existing pre-set I have for this client? I know I can choose the 4:3 aspect each time and then sync but that's 3 or 4 clicks and whereas if I can add it to an existing preset, it's no extra clicks.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOk I have asked this question to adobe & still have not been addressed. My client requires a specific crop for his website.1496 x 1000 pixels..If you try to put this into the aspect ratio the image defaults to 2x3/4x6, presumably because it is so near to the 2x3 crop. This problem only started in LR3?

But the issue is when you select the crop tool and enter a custom constraint and crop
The image size is sometimes a full 2 inches off of what you set as a crop?! I havn't run into this before
[I do know you can use the drop down box and use {size and resolution} but I want to know why it doesnt work under custom and unconstrained]
I have a catalog and images on my laptop. I have created another catalog that I want to merge with this one. It includes some duplicate images and thats fine. I want the images, keywords and folder structure from the new catalog to merge with the existing one for teaching purposes.
Lightroom wont let me Merge and include the duplicates.
how to set up a preset on the Import page (there are some there now) that I can use when I import my photos into LR. I am tired of going to Lens Correction in the Develop mod to put the nikon lens in that I used for the shoot. It is always turned off and I would like to have it activated when I import my shots. I know that while in the Develop mod, I can change it for one photo and then use "sync" to have it address all the other photos. But then it is a pain in the butt. There must be a way of doing it on import. Either that or else have it recognize the lens that I used automatically.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAs an ex Photoshop user, there is a facility missing from PDN (or at least I can't find it!)
In Photoshop there was a tool which allowed me to type in a width and a height and a unit of measurement, for instance, 6, 4 and inches which would give me a 6x4 ratio image. I could then drag a rectangle across my image, and the crop box would remain in the correct ratio, making for very easy cropping when preparing images to be printed.
Is there a similar way in PDN to achieve this?
I have a problem with cs6 crop tool, well i want to create an a4 210 x 297 mm 8.3 x 11.7 preset. Well i add 210 on the width and 297 height
Now the problem , on the cs3 i was used to clickin width/heught space , right mouse click and set millimeter and save the preset. On the cs6 the right click doesn't call a pop up menu where i can select pixel, incs,cm,mm...
Why is there a 'lightroom video preset' under the preset tabs. yet when i open a video file in lightroom and go to the develop modue it says video is not supported in the develop module?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 5" x 7" (landscape style) image that I want to crop in Elements 9. I'm using the Guided mode on the Edit tab of the program. When I use the pulldown menu and I see the 5 x 7 crop box size that I want to use, I click it. But the crop window that appears, is 7 x 5 (portrait mode) rather than 5 x 7 landscape mode. I can work around this by changing my crop box size selection on the pulldown menu to No Restriction, but I'm then just guessing that I'll get precisely the 5 x 7 ratio that I want. How can I change the crop box from portrait style to landscape style so that I can crop my image 5 x 7 rather than 7 x 5?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with referencing an appropriate instance of Ps from Lr. I don't know too much how this works with Lr & Mac, or how it happened, but I apparently have several instances of Ps referencing different plugins, and Lr's default references the wrong one.
History: I tried the Topaz Labs plugins but ended up pruchasing and installing Nik's plugins. I followed Topaz instructions for uninstalling the plugins, but they are still showing up in Ps instances I cannot find.
The appropriate instance of Ps in in my Mac's launch tray, which calls up the app located in the folder '/Applications/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS5.1'. If I create an additional Lr external editor that points at this app it works properly. However, the default external editor (Ps) opens up another instance of Ps which does not include Nik plugins, but rather Topaz Labs plugins.
Further, if I try to open a image file from Finder ('open with') I get an "application moved" message (update or not). If I choose either 'update' or 'not to update' it opens an instance of Ps that includes both Topaz and Nik plugins. The message is mysterious, but at least I get an instance of Ps with the plugins I want.
Aside from the mystery, how can I get Lr to reference Ps that will include the Nik plugins?? Also feel free to contribute to the mystery.
I am new to watermarks and am wanting to include the symbol that indicates copyright, rather than the whole word.
I don't know how/where to find this symbol, and how to include it with my watermark.
How do I tell LR4 to include or switch from one catalog to another, import and save to newer catalog. Now I am unable to import from an older catalog.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI´d like to decide what metadata to include i file when exporting pictures. I want most of the data but i don´t want anyone to know my EXIF info. Is there a way to do that?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI shoot pictures in RAW (Pentax PEF format) which includes gps data. As the pictures are being imported the Lightroom prompts for reverse geo mapping and detects the data and locates it on the map from map module. However, when exported in JPG, the GPS is missing in the Exif. It was working in 4.1. Again, it did not work sometimes in 4.1.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use LR3 extensively for tethered capture and think that Adobe did a great job for the first release of this feature but one critical option is missing.
I use tethered capture with the 'shot name' option selected which is great becasue it puts the different shots into their own folder in the catalog but it would be even more useful if there was a way to have the shot name included in the filename that is saved. I have played around with the custom filename options, which are extensive, but the shot name option isnt available. Is there a way to do this?
I use LR5 to manage RAW/JPG/MOV files from events where I have taken pictures from. Most of the MOV files do either come from my Canon Camera or from my iPhone.
I regular export the files in a reduced file back to my iPad or iPhone for "public" viewing. Unfortunately LR5 is loosing all metadata from my videos, especially creating date/time and GPS tags.
Is there any way to include metadata in exported (and compressed) video files ? It works in photo's very well.
If not, do you know any other program which can compress original video files from my iPhone and keep the metadata ?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently learned using presets in LR. I currently use LR5.2.
I recently installed a few third-party presets to LR.
I am very happy with the performance of these presets.
Here is a problem: I have many LR catalogs.
Is there a way to install all presets to catalog whenever I create new one (just like a default preset) and also to old catalogs?
how do you create a preset in LR 3.6 to be used in the develop module?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently use LR5.2. In camera calibration panel, there are a few options for camera profiles, e'g., camera landscape. I created a "camera landscape" preset, which did not work. It seems that there are some missing checks in "new develop preset" box. As seen in the attachment, i placed checkmarks only in front of "process version" and "calbiration". This was not enough. It seems that the box might need more checkmarks to produce a workable landscape preset.
View 13 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to stack preset filters on photos?
I remember back in Lightroom 3, you could select some filters, like Cold Tone, then select another filter and would apply itself on top of the Cold Tone filter.
Now, it seems in Lightroom 4, every time you select a filter, it completely overwrites all the settings of previous ones.
I have imported a preset and want to use it on several photos in the same folder. How do I do this? I cant seem to see the option when I try to sync them.
