Sep 1, 2012I am new to lightroom. I just purchased lightroom four and recently purchased a nikon D800. How do I edit nef files in lightroom four. I presently get an error message.

Lightroom :: How To Edit CR2 Files As RAW
Jan 26, 2014Today I decided I would try to use Lightroom to edit my latest photo shoot instead of Aperture just to test it out. If I imported all of my pictures as .CR2 files, are the photos I'm editing the RAW photos or the JPG photos? I do all of my shoots in RAW+JPG, and I don't know which files I'm editing in LR. In Aperture it's easy to tell because the RAW and JPG files show up separate but this isn't the case in LR. If I go into "Metadata" for the photos it lists the file name as "IMG_xxxx.CR2," but it also lists "JPG" under "Sidecar Files." I don't know if that means I'm editing the JPG or if that's just telling me that the JPG exists in the CR2 file.

Jan 23, 2014I am about to upgrade to LR 5. Currently I use LR4.4 which uses Camera RAW 7.4. LR5 uses Camera RAW 8.2. Will I be able to edit RAW files in LR5 and still continue to edit the resultant files in Photoshop CS5 without using a DNG conversion?

Mar 30, 2013I tried to edit the capture time on NEF files. I set -5 hours in "Metadata" > "Edit Capture Time", selected "Write date or time changes into proprietary raw files" and clicked "Save to Metadata" but the file does not change. There is just a new XMP file created, but i would like to edit this in raw files.
When I tried the above steps witha JPEG file everything works fine, but also when I try to change capture time on files, which exists in JPEG and NEF, neither the JPEG nor the NEF changes. Only the XMP.
It's the same problem like this, but even there is no answer:[URL].....
I run Lightroom 4.3 on Windows 7.

Jan 12, 2014I just applied the Lightroom 5.3 and Camera Raw 8.3 updates and now am no longer able to open RAW or DNG files into Photoshop CC. When I select a file and choose "Edit In" Photoshop, photoshop will launch, then nothing will happen. After 2 to 5 minutes, an error will popup in Lightroom saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CC could not be launched." An error I've never seen before. When I click "Ok", Lightroom will show that it's "preparing a file for editing" in the upper left, it will create and save a psd to disk and in the catalog (another new behavior), then it will open in photoshop. All other file types (jpgs, tiff, psd) seem to work/open fine between applications. No difference if I open photoshop prior to selecting "Edit In". Selecting "Edit In" other applications, like Viveza, work fine.
I tried first deleting preference files in both applications. No luck. Ditto for plugins. Notta. Eventually I completely uninstalled and fresh installed Photoshop, Lightroom, and Bridge from the cloud. Same deal...can't open raw/dng files into Photoshop.
I'm on a PC running Windows 7 64bit.

Mar 6, 2013LR4 has a longstanding bug where it can no longer edit RAW files in Photoshop CS6.
Most (including me) appear to be using a work-around where a copy is made of the Photoshop CS6 executable and slightly renaming it. this is then plugged into LR4 as a third-party editor. A far from convenient or professional affair!
Why does the Adobe Labs ADOBE RAW beta not update RAW in LR4 but only CS6?

Jan 23, 2013I'm using LR 4.3 and CS5, with ACR 6.7 installed. Whenever I'm using "Edit in PS CS5" comand inside LR, automatically I'm getting a duplicate TIFF file added to my LR catalog. How can I avoid this?

No matter how I move files (move the folder within LR, move the folder than then re-sync in LR, etc) it always loses the History. I've searched and have found numerous "tutorials" on how to properly move files but can't seem to be able to keep the History along with it (I get the last state of the image, but not the actual history itself).

May 21, 2012I have a system of labeling my images to differentiate between the source files and the final edit images, but sometimes I need to apply different labels if there is something that's not ordinary to my process. My problem is that when I go back through my archive to look for something, I forget why I lebeled something a different color. I've been creating JPG's in Photoshop with notes for that specific job, but that's getting to be a pain.
It would be great to be able to create a note within Lightroom that I can view while I'm thumbing through my images.

For example, I'm an image editor and I live 500 miles away from the photographer that I work for. Can they (the photographer) download the images after shooting, create Smart Previews then send me the 'Smart Preview' folder of images, I edited them on my own computer then return the Smart Previews back to them fully edited?

Dec 16, 2013I'm running on LR 5.3, but this problem persisted in LR 5.2. Working in PS CS6 and Camera Raw 8.3. RAWs are NEFs from a Nikon D600.
I can't figure out what happened but suddenly I am not getting prompts when moving from LR to PS to "Edit Original" or "Edit a Copy".
I reset all dialog warnings and nothing. The prompt will appear for TIFFs but not for NEFs.
It's kind of pointless to not be able to choose to edit an original or copy with LR adjustments for a RAW when they are the file types that retain my RAW editing information.
Plus, when I do click on a NEF and choose to edit in PS without the prompt (it will appear with lightroom adjustments, not as original), it will open a second icon for photoshop on my dock, and prompt me to continue trial? I have a version of PS installed with the serial plugged in, and in LR "edit in PS" for a TIFF will open this primary version.

Sep 3, 2013I am trying to access the edit original (edit with) option to edit a photo that has not been edited yet. I right click and go through the edit menu and does not appear or is not available? Would I have to reopen it manual in photoshop or is there a way around this to access that setting? it sometimes does not appear on my already edited photos.
I would prefer not to open each photo again, as some files i do not have and were imported into the document with another computer.

May 6, 2013I am trying to edit some VOB files from my daughter's wedding CD. But Photoshop won't accept that format. I read that I could just change the extension to AVI and drag them in. I did that and it opened them but the video and audio didn't sync. The size was distorted but I figured out that I could change the aspect ratio to widescreen from the view menu which looks pretty normal. But I see black lines on the sides of the video. What do I have to do to be able to edit the video??

Feb 12, 2012I'm using X3. I encountered a problem today with captured DV files: I can't open them with VideoStudio. Some weeks ago it was possible to open those files. When I try to import them, VS says: "Unable to open file". I can open them with BSPlayer and Mediaplayer Classic (and sony vegas). With VLC Player there is a message that the file is "broken" but I can still see the video (but audio goes crappy). I've installed shark007's codec pack. I have also tried to reinstall videostudio, but it didn't work. I have a massive project file with many DV AVI files, and I can't see the files.

I hate to think that Adobe Photoshop is the be all end all program, for this type applications.
