Aug 18, 2013AI 6. Here is what I have. A background shape that is a gradient. Type on top of the shape. Chiller font. I need to punch a hole into the background in the shape of the font. I created outline with the font. Ungrouped the outlines. I go to pathfinder and select exclude. My gradient which was red to black is now black only. It excluded the font, (punched the hole) but ruined my gradient because the gradient no longer exist. Just black.
The reason I need to exclude the font is because it does not print well. I'm using cmyk doc color mode. But the white font and the reddish background where the font is located kind of blend making the font kind of hard to read. I figured punching a hole in the shape of the fonts would solve that problem.

Nov 19, 2012Why do transparent objects look different on white background vs no background like the image below?
If I flatten the transparency both sides of the gradient object looks like it's on a white background.
If I print it there's no difference.

Feb 27, 2014A logo file was sent over to me with a white background. I am very new to Illustrator so I do not know how to change this. I checked the layers and it only shows 1 layer and an image file. I tried saving for the web, but there is no transparency area there either.

Oct 29, 2009I managed to create the Illustrator image I want & now need to take this image & use it in another application. However, regardless of which way I attempt to export - jpg, tif or png, I'm still getting the (white artboard) background, which I do not want. I attempted to create another box & blend the background to the background of the other application that I am using, but it's still apparent.
Also, with some conversion, my image became distorted or changed the image colors a little bit.
What's the process to remove unwanted backgrounds from Illustrator images? Here's some samples.

The color and black are fine since they already stand out on the default white/transparent background. But i want to put the white design on a background that will make it visible. I am trying to create a duplicate of the image- but with the letters inverted to white (still with a transparent background). I am pretty new to illustrator and am not sure how to get this effect. I have tried using the "ignore white" button in image trace as I did with the black text image, but all it does is erase my text too. Is there an easy way to do this?

Sep 28, 2012I am using a pdf underlay to trace over and whenever the crosshair or pickbox enters a white area it does not shift color to black to remain visible. This leaves me picking randomly trying to guess where the crosshair or pickbox is. If I change the 3dconfig to disable hardware acceleration, the color shifts, but the pdf is whited out. Not to mention the fact that by disabling hardware acceleration, I'm wasting the expensive video card on the machine. Is there a workaround? updated driver? service pack?

Anytime I use it, it converts to this font and each time I need to change a font weight, I must do it manually. As you can imagine, I use our company font all day so this slows me down quite a bit. We tried moving the font family to the trash, emptying the trash, rebooting the machine, and re-adding the font family and it still is happening.
