View 5 RepliesI am working on illustrator cs6 on a windows machine and i have recently discovered this cool trick of going to the Windows menu and pressing the P key to give path finder and pressing I to give links etc. and i was wondering instead of clicking, can i acess the Menu commands like windows, view, edit etc without using mouse(or by using keyboard shorts)

Layer panel window
cmd-l : lock selected layer or group
cmd-alt-l: unlock selected layer or group
cmd-alt-c: copy layer style
cmd-alt-v: paste layer style
Copy layer style is listed in the keyboard shortcuts dialog. For some reason it wants to raster shape layers so that's totally unusable.
I'm a 3D artist, and I've been using photoshop for texturing my models for so long. Now that photoshop has improved it's 3D features, It's making my life so easy, but there's a problem(other than the memory consumption).
I have to change my navigation from rotation to panning and zooming by clicking on the buttons on top, and for a long run it would be devastating , and I haven't found a way to assign any shortcuts to them so I can easily and quickly hover around my 3D model to texture and paint it.
I personally Believe that It won't be addressed until CS7 or some other version.
I'd like to assign keyboard shortcuts to items under the Colors tab. Is it possible and if so, how?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to find a way to assign keyboard shortcuts for different selection sets functions/commands.
I failed to find selection set commands in customize user interface menu. seems that they named it in a manner so that people cant find them when they simply look for "selection" or "set" or "create selection set" or "make selection set" .
what I need is:
1. when I select a group of objects I want to make them a selection set with one keyboard shortcut. (to go to the sets menu window and press that "create a selection set" button is too time consuming. I am also aware that just writing a letter to the selection sets dialog creates a set but still I want that shortcut.)
2.select an object and immediately jump to the whole selection set with a keyboard shortcut. or toggle through selection sets.
3.delete the active selection set with one keyboard shortcut.
are these functions available as native commands in customize user interface?should I go looking for a maxscript ?
I've a few local adjustment brush presets i tend to use a lot.Now i was wondering if it is possible to assign keyboard shortcuts to them for a faster workflow?

I was wondering with cs6 whether it would finally be possible to assign gradients on stroke by pen pressure so you can do stuff like darken lines by pressure just like a real pencil for example.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an issue when assigning a profile to an untagged ai-file. When doing so, and choosing "Save" (NOT "Save As") the file remains untagged when reopening it again.
Try it yourself: Create a new file in Illustrator, and select Edit > Assign Profile, and then choose "Dont Color Manage This Document". Choose Save As, select Ai-file, and in Illustrator Option choose NOT to Embed ICC Profile. Close the file, and reopen it again. Now you should be promted with a Missing Profile warming. Assign a profile, and Save** (NOT "Save As") the file. In my opinion the file should now be embedded with a profile, but when reopening the file, your again promed with a missing profile warning.
**This doesnt happen it you instead of "Save" choose "Save As", or if the ai-file you start wih doesn't miss the profile, but just has a wrong profile.
I used to use MenuMaster, but they no longer support the latest OSX.
System preferences will not let you add shortcuts to Illustrator.
Illustrator doesn't seem to let you assign shortcuts to items in the script menu.
So all of a sudden my contextual menus in AI CS6 are acting weird. They always "flyout" to the right (or the direction of the arrow in the main menu), but now some of them are opening to the left. This is really annoying when you are trying to move quickly and are expecting that menu to flyout to the right. I have attached two screenshots showing the issue.
FYI. Illustrator CS 6 (Creative Cloud version) running on Windows 8
Whenever I click dropdown menus from my panels (for instance, "Arrowheads" or "Profile" from the Stroke panel), the dropdown menu appears at the top-left of my screen and not below my mouse. Is there a way to move them?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to assign one of the default layer colors with javascript? like light blue, light red, or green.
View 3 Replies View RelatedUnder the edit tab I can click on the link option and change the colors together at the same time, though this does not work when on the Assign tab.
1. Is there a way to get it to change the colors of different shapes at the same time in the Assign tab?
2. The blue circle in the color wheel is clearly changing the hue of the blue, though with the other two arms, the circle with the black ring around it, when I drag it to darker hues it changes both the star and the polygon while the other circle only changes hues sometimes if I drag it somewhere completely different. How does this process work?.
In the extend script documentation it says you can assign a name to UI elements at creation like the example given below
dlg.btnPnl.cancelBtn = dlg.btnPnl.add('button', undefined, 'Cancel',
{name:'cancel'});
but when i do it like that, the bject's name comes out as undefined when accessed like this
dlg.btnPnl.cancelBtn.name
or like this:
dlg.btnPnl.children['name']
but adding the object then naming like this works-
dlg.btnPnl.cancelBtn.name = "Cancel";
I'm using illustrator cc and the extendscript guide for cs6 (couldn't find a newer one). Did the syntax change?
Is there any chance to assign values to an artboard?
I've experimented with “tags”, but they only work for pageItems. (if the item which includes the stored data is deleted, the data is also deleted)
It is simple data like v1=true, v2=false, … I want to assign. And it needs to be saved within the illustrator document.
I am using Illustrator CS6 and if I click on one of the file menus ("File", "Edit", "View", etc.) if I want to open another menu without closing the previous one I have to click on it, while the default behaviour for other applications is for the menues to follow the mouse cursor, so how do I make it so that if I open the "File" menu and mouse over the "Edit" menu, the "Edit" menu would become open?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have, up until I got CS3 and the new aluminum keyboard, not had any issues with this.
I have numerous, common actions recorded which have F keys assigned to as shortcuts.
F10, which turns sound off in the OS on an aluminum keyboard, overrides my Photoshop shortcut.
I've lost my 12 or so most common action shortucts in Photoshop because of this! That is about a 5% loss in productivity...
I'm on an OSX Lion machine (10.7.4) with 7GB of memory.
I have the following shortcuts in Illustrator:
Cmd +Shift + = : To export a file
Cmd +3 : Select the same fill color
Cmd + 4: Select the same stroke color
Cmd + . : Rotate
Cmd + , : Reflect an object
It doesn't matter which shortcut it is what will happen is that Illustrator and my Mac will freeze up not allowing me to force quit the program. This will happen randomly and the only way around it is to restart the mac and restore default preferences via Cmd + Option + Shift when opening the program.
I have tried re-installing the suite and it still happens, so I'm wondering is it the specific shortcuts I am using or is it the computer? I only ask because Illustrator has no issues when everything is defaulted, however when I add the shortcuts this issue will happen.
When I use zoom tool (in or out) in an atrwork in illustrator (cs5) then shortcuts don't work. so I have to even a click on an empty area or push (Esc) button to get back functionality of the shortcuts.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up a keyboard shortcut in Illustrator using the "control" key and I get the error message "The key pressed cannot be used as a shortcut." I really want to use the control key because, 1) it matches a similar shortcut that I use in Photoshop, and 2) all similar shortcuts are already in use. I'm confused as to why Illustrator won't allow me to use the ctl key in shortcuts, yet in Photoshop it works fine. I'm using CS6 with OSX Mountain Lion.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, after installing CS5 in 2009, it's now 2013, and my keyboard shortcuts are gone. Well. All of the useful ones such as copy, paste, new, open, etc. Save for Web is still working, and a handful of commands I don't use are working, but not the ones I use all the time. I look in the menus for the commands for copy and group and such, but there's no shortcut assigned. And I've been looking online how to fix this, but everyone is saying go into Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts and voila. The only problem, is my Edit menu doesn't have a Keyboard Shortcuts option, and I can't figure out why.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI love using keyboard shortcuts in Illustrator but since I've upgraded to CC Illustrator on both my computers acts as if the keys are covered in glue when trying to use keyboard shortcuts.
I'll hit the keyboard shortcut for the rectangle tool for instance...hit the keyboard again harder, nothing, strange I think and hit again harder, again and again and on the 8th or 10th time it suddenly works. This is repeated on most keyboard shortcuts on and off, not every time.
This is consistent and new since CC upgrade across both machines.
I've just bought a new laptop (because my old laptop fell apart) and have installed Illustrator on it. For some reason, the keyboard shortcuts aren't working properly. I can't use the spacebar to get to the hand tool, and every time I use a shortcut to get to any other tool, my cursor pauses for a moment before I can move it again. I'm running CS2 (I know, I know; just don't have the money to upgrade) on a Windows 7 system. I specifically sought out a computer with Windows 7, because that's what my old laptop had, and Illustrator ran beautifully on it. This problem is really going to negatively impact my productivity.
