Illustrator :: How To Customize The Keyboard Shortcuts
Feb 9, 2014I'm working in Illustrator on Mac, I'm wondering is there a way to customize the keyboard shortcuts, like you can in Flash pro?

View 1 RepliesI have tried to customize keyboard shortcuts in CS4 but each time I quit I lose all settings. (they work fine til I quit). I have saved new sets, overwritten previous sets but they don't seem to save.
Otherwise, speaking as a recent convert from Freehand, CS4 is wonderful now multiple pages have been added
I'm trying to set up a keyboard shortcut in Illustrator using the "control" key and I get the error message "The key pressed cannot be used as a shortcut." I really want to use the control key because, 1) it matches a similar shortcut that I use in Photoshop, and 2) all similar shortcuts are already in use. I'm confused as to why Illustrator won't allow me to use the ctl key in shortcuts, yet in Photoshop it works fine. I'm using CS6 with OSX Mountain Lion.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, after installing CS5 in 2009, it's now 2013, and my keyboard shortcuts are gone. Well. All of the useful ones such as copy, paste, new, open, etc. Save for Web is still working, and a handful of commands I don't use are working, but not the ones I use all the time. I look in the menus for the commands for copy and group and such, but there's no shortcut assigned. And I've been looking online how to fix this, but everyone is saying go into Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts and voila. The only problem, is my Edit menu doesn't have a Keyboard Shortcuts option, and I can't figure out why.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI love using keyboard shortcuts in Illustrator but since I've upgraded to CC Illustrator on both my computers acts as if the keys are covered in glue when trying to use keyboard shortcuts.
Â
I'll hit the keyboard shortcut for the rectangle tool for instance...hit the keyboard again harder, nothing, strange I think and hit again harder, again and again and on the 8th or 10th time it suddenly works. This is repeated on most keyboard shortcuts on and off, not every time.
Â
This is consistent and new since CC upgrade across both machines.
I've just bought a new laptop (because my old laptop fell apart) and have installed Illustrator on it. For some reason, the keyboard shortcuts aren't working properly. I can't use the spacebar to get to the hand tool, and every time I use a shortcut to get to any other tool, my cursor pauses for a moment before I can move it again. I'm running CS2 (I know, I know; just don't have the money to upgrade) on a Windows 7 system. I specifically sought out a computer with Windows 7, because that's what my old laptop had, and Illustrator ran beautifully on it. This problem is really going to negatively impact my productivity.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using Illustrator CS5 Blob Brush Tool with a Wacom Cintiq tablet. I would like to be able to vary brush size by assigning a keyboard shortcut to the express keys or touch strip of the tablet. The only keyboard short-cut I can find is Shift+B. which just takes me to the Blob Brush Tool window. Is there a way to vary brush size on the fly by using up/down arrows, etc.?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't change the keyboard shortcuts in max. If i change them and restart max, the changes a revert. The problem is, that max stores some config files into &#xPr;ogramFiles%, but a normal user (without admin rights) can't write to files there.
e.g.: DefaultUI.clrx and DefaultUI.kbdx are stored into: C:Program FilesAutodesk3ds Max 2013en-USUI
3dsmax.exe gets a "ACCESS DENIED" from the OS but this error would be silently ignored IMHO the error should be raised, so that the user knows about unsaved settings...
For this i have created:URL....
Everyone can reproduce this behaviour with process monitor from sysinternals. You will see this:

Is there anyway I can add my own keyboard shortcuts?
For example, I want to save an image as a jpg The only way I have found is to 'Export' (Is this the right way?)
The problem is that after getting the File menu (alt F), there's no way of getting to the 'Export' option by one key stroke (I suppose you can always press the down or up arrow - but that doesn't count - takes too long)
Is there anyway I can create my own keyboard shortcuts?
If not, maybe I'll try AutoHotkey
I would like to be able to use Keyboard shortcuts in Gimp. I see only a very few. Can I make shortcuts for things I use regularly? I need shortcuts especially for levels. save, deselect, hide selection outline, and some tools--

cmd-l : lock selected layer or group
cmd-alt-l: unlock selected layer or group
cmd-alt-c: copy layer style
cmd-alt-v: paste layer style
Â
Copy layer style is listed in the keyboard shortcuts dialog. For some reason it wants to raster shape layers so that's totally unusable.
Keyboard shortcuts will work for a little while, then suddenly stop. I can still select tools 'manually', clicking the icons, but pressing P for the paint brush tool or E for the eraser will have no effect. So far as I can tell this happens at random. It has also been fixing itself at random, after some undetermined amount of time not working, but then it just happens again.Â

'Use shift key for tool switch' is already unchecked in my preferences.

I'm on Photoshop CS6
Mac OS 10.7.3
I've got like 580 gigs of free disk space, and 8 GB of RAM...
I was madly working along, and suddenly, no keyboard shortcuts worked. I wrestled with this for quite some time. Then I realized that I had two layers selected, instead of one. When I selected only one layer, all my keyboard shortcuts returned and began to operate as normal.
Â
I'm just wondering whether this is a feature to protect the user from unwittingly altering more than one layer at a time, or whether it's a bug?
I have just started using my Photoshop CS6 (64-bit).
Â
I am trying to use Ctrl++ and Ctrl+- to zoom in and out respectively, but nothing happens.
Â
Is there something that I should be doing before starting to use the keyboard shortcuts?

Is there a table of actions that use the Shift key? The Keyboard Shortcuts show Shift + Click and Shift + Play but, for example, the Shift key can be used to stretch or shorten an audio track without losing the contents, just varying the playback speed. Are there any other uses for the Shift key?

Most shortcuts of mine are working. But some, like print, color settings are not bringing up the appropropriate boxes. And the strange part is that the correct keys are listed in the menu.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit and PS CS2. I've been running the same copy of CS2 for a long time now but on XP. Now that I'm in Vista, some of the keyboard shortcuts don't seem to work and I'm not sure why. I don't see anything in the FAQ about this, and I -know- they are valid, default shortcuts.
Two examples (I use these all the time since I work with a lot of small icons):
#1. Using the arrow keys to shift the current layer/selection over by 1px (or the Shift+arrow keys combo for 10px) doesn't work anymore.
#2. Using Ctrl + and Ctrl - to zoom in and out of the image does not work anymore.
Anyone have any ideas? Maybe Vista is overriding / intercepting the keys somehow?
I just installed Photoshop CS and except for my tool pallet, all my shortcuts are dead. My actions work but only by actually clicking the action button, not by the asigned keys.
