Aug 1, 20139-slice scaling doesn't appear to work when applied to symbols based on an embedded raster image.Is this a known limitation or am I doing something wrong?It works fine with vector-based symbols. I'm using Illustrator CS6.

Drag proportionally (by holding down SHIFT) the size of the box... and it won't snap to the Guides.
How can proportional scaling be down by dragging, and have Guides and other nodes, vertices, anchors, "smart Guides" etc actually functional as Snap positions?
Or Adobe figure there's no need for accuracy when proportionaly scaling?

Oct 7, 2013When I open up a CS3 file with my CS5 version I get this error.
"Illustrator now honers 9 -slice scaling of symbols. Any scaling done on symbol instance with 9-slice scaling option in legacy version will look different now. Do you want to retain the 9-sclice scaling option for symbols?"
I click on the yes button. But what does this all mean?
When I do enter in this file it is distorted. How do I change the legacy so that it will reflect the origional file.

Feb 5, 2011If I right click on a symbol instance, I get a menu item, "Break link to symbol." How can I do that same thing in Javascript?
1) That is, how do I use Javascript to break the link between a SymbolItem and the Symbol it represents? (i.e. without deleting the Symbol?)
2) Once the link is broken, how do I locate the Layer that was created when the link was broken? That is, once the link is broken, it is no longer a SymbolItem; it becomes a Layer instead. How do I locate that Layer?
3) How do I convert the Layer to a GroupItem?

My rudimentary script can find the existing symbol name (for me, that's a small triumph!). The Illustrator document has two symbols in the Symbols panel, 'blue_square' and 'red_circle'. I run the script with an instance of 'blue_square' (and nothing else) on the page, and try to change the name to 'red_circle':

Feb 25, 2012I've been trying to pull together the right info to use JavaScript to create a form to bring in particular symbols from the symbol library based on the variables taken from the form. I've taken bits and pieces from various sample scripts and tried to make this work, but my problem appears when I try to use conditionals.This is a limited version of what I want to do, but it is enough to get the point across.
1. I want to select a script that has various dropdown boxes. I would like the first dropdown to give me 3 options: 10, 13, 18
2. I would also like another drop down box that gives me three more options: single needle, double needle, and knife edge.
3. I would then like it to have an "ok" button and "Cancel" button.
4. From here when I click the ok button, a symbol is brought in from the library depending on what parameters were given to the form.
ex. If I selected 10 in the first drop down and double needle in the second, I would like "SYMBOL A" to be pulled from the library and centered on the artboard.ex. If I selected 13 in the first drop down and double needle in the second, I would like "SYMBOL B" to be pulled from the library and centered on the artboard.
I've gotten the UI to pop up and it works as planned as well as bringing in a symbol, my problem comes when I try to incorporate conditionals and functions.Here is my script.

May 30, 2012I think the execution would be relatively easy. how to tell detect if a symbol is within a rectangle vector area. so almost like a parent child relationship in HTML goes? was thinking about getting top bottom left and right of a layer called parent then checking all layers below it (maybe they have "child" naming scene, so i can match by layer name) if the top bottom left and right are >=/<= the one above it. so it is basically detecting if a box is inside another box.

Apr 9, 2013I'm trying to figure out a way to automate a simple, yet repetative process I do countless times a day. Ideally, I'd like to tie it to a keystroke to speed up my workflow.
I work on line art and colorways for footwear, so the way I'm coloring these shapes and strokes break apart the different materials and pieces of the shoe.
While coloring line art, I work with Pantone spot colors as fills for closed path objects. I then have to manually apply that same color to the stroke, set the stroke to 0.5px weight, convert that spot stroke color to CMYK, and add 15% to the K value.
I found some code in an older post for applying the actively selected object's fill color to the stroke, but I'm having but I'm having trouble with the next step of figuring out how to take that spot stroke color and convert it to a CMYK build that I can then add 15% black to. Is this something that's even possible? I've spent about an hour playing with the script and have only had luck matching the fill color or turning the stroke white.
Edge Animate CC :: Centering AND Scaling An Image (inside A Div Or Symbol)
Jan 31, 2014I have a top banner for a website - the website is fully made in Edge.
The banner is 540px high, and 100% width. (Stage width is also set to 100%)
Now inside this banner, I want a large image to show.
The center of this image should correspond to the center of the banner.
The width of the image should be 100% of the banner. (Hence 100% of the browser window).
The height of the image should remain proportional to the width of the banner, i.e. no distortions. (Was using auto before)
The overflow should be hidden. (So basically the image is always 100% width of the browser window, and the height overflows both both up and down).
Somehow in ver 3 of Edge Animate I can't get all these options to work at the same time - can't use 100% width and auto height for an image anymore.

Nov 19, 2013I've dynamically placed a symbol on the stage at runtime. Per user input, I'd like to adjust the scale, position, etc. of this symbol (which is just a white sphere that bounces on using the animation in it's own timeline).
How do I address scale, position, opacity, etc. attributes of my symbol via the code, and where can I find a good, solid reference on syntax? I keep bouncing into jquery libraries, which I don't yet really understand how to implement. I'm missing that reference manual that defines all the functions we have at our disposal.

Draw a rectangle to allign with ellipse's outer dimension by Alignment Guides (not by Align and Distribute command).
Now the aligned side of the Rectangle must be tangent to the ellipse BUT it's not! To verify, try to search an intersection point. Draw a Guideline and snap it to the rectangle's aligned side. It must be intersection point between Guideline and Ellipse but there isn't...

I need gimp to slice by columns (start in the top left corner slice each grid down the column then proceed to the next column. Right now all I can get gimp to do is cut by rows. Normally gimps function would be fine but I need the image labeled a particular way so I can use the individual files in a map for a game. I'm making a 118 images so renaming them by hand would take too long.

Here is my Script, mostly copied from the example script provided with Illustrator (CS5). And, this works manually, using the file names in the script, via Load Variable Library

Illustrator :: Creating Artboards From Guides
Jul 5, 2012I am working on a large wall sticker and I need to "slice" the image into pieces for vinyl printing. Is there anyways to place guides (or slices) and have them be converted to separate art boards for printing? In the past I would make individual art boards the exact size of each object and save them one at a time to send to the printer. Then once the art came in I could piece the wall art back together as I applied it to the wall or glass, But this is time consuming.
