This is expected behavior when exporting to SVG and Inkscape does so by default? How can I export a hidden sublayer so it ends up in svg as a nested group with attribute display="none"?
View 3 RepliesIn cs6 when I break a link to a symbol, the symbol group becomes a sublayer and the layers panel gets expanded showing all the objects in that layer. I then have to collapse the menu. every time I select any object that was part of the symbol, my layers panel expands. this is very frustrating. so avoided it, when I break a symbol, I have to select the objects from the menu panel and move them out of the sublayer. this is not very fun to do when I have a lot of symbols to deal with.
so is this a new behavior in cs6, is there a way for a symbol to break into a group and not a sublayer (ithink that's what's happening not sure)?
I believe in earlier versions if you wanted to change a sublayer into a main layer you could just drag and drop. But I don't see any way in CS6 to change a sublayer into a main layer.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI successfully finished my first gradient mesh… Now, I tried to create another gradient mesh… As a sublayer under a parent layer called left eye… The left pupil was a sublayer also…
Illustrator through a fit when I try to do this… It went ahead and let me create the sublayer and gradient mesh, but… It wouldn't let me color the second sublayer/gradient mesh…
The newly created sublayer/gradient mesh had the same color as the first sublayer (the same color being the small horizontal tower that colors your different layers).
Maybe I'm just missing a step somewhere, to be able to have multiple sublayer with multiple gradient meshes?
I'm fairly new to illustrator and graphic designer, but… I'm starting to pick up on the features pretty quickly.
Turned off tracks will NOT be ignored when exporting. This is a trap!

View 10 Replies View RelatedWhile I was first working with CorelDraw13, I tried exporting a file that had a layer that was hidden, but printable. I got a warning/error window notifying my of the problem. In the corner, there was a check box option to not display that warning/error message.
Now, I am trying to get that window to show up again.
In 2008, never had this issue.Just dumb, circles, and lines in a view port, that have hidden or center linetyoes assigned to them. When we go to plot using legacy hidden (this new for 2012?) the plot comes out with continuous lines. These are not solids. Just ordinary line entities.Now, when I change the shadeplot to "hidden" the linetype is shown correctly, but now my entities are coloured, when I just want my drawing to be black and white (going to PDF), even though all of the colours in the pen style are set to "Black".
Has this changed? Is there a new variable introduced?
I'm drawing objects (walls, platforms, etc.) in 3d made up primarily of extruded polygons. I want to be able to plot these objects in a way that hides all of the lines which are obscured by other objects. Currently I have my viewports set up with a 2D Wireframe visual style and a Hidden shade plot. This isn't working for me. I'm still getting all of the lines in the drawing visible no matter what.
Here's the strange thing: It seems to work perfectly fine in plan view, but not in front view. Also, it's worked fine in the past. It seems that the problem has gotten progressively worse over the past year or so.
I'm using AutoCAD 2008.
fairly regularly illustrator decides to hide the tools set / and often panels like color / font etc behind the artboard.
it doesn't happen on starting the program, just maybe an hour or two into using it and i find the tools are hidden and i can to drag the windows around to find them again.
they also vanish at times if i am in the middle screen mode (clicking 'f' once to access) - again this doesn't always happen.
I know in Photoshop you are able to cycle through hidden tools not visible in toolbar by pressing SHIFT together with the keyboard shortcut repeatedly. I don't see this behaviour in Illustrator - is this correct? Is there any way to replicate this behaviour without allocating a different shortcut for every tool in the toolbox?
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some reason when I hold down the right hand side on my mouse pad to access the hidden tools in the tools palette in illustrator, it shows the alternative tools but wont let me switch to them eg I hold down the right hand pad and can see the smooth tool underneath the pencil but I cant switch tools. It certainly has worked in the past but appears to have stopped working?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI inherited a huge 4-panel poster file that was built on top of another file, and then the old file was deleted. I also deleted all the paragraph, character and object styles and unused colors. The problem is there are hidden cmyk colors that show up (I'm guessing it must be in type appearances, but there are so many combinations I can't use the "select" options effectively). I've also tried to change the color swatches to "spot" and search for them in Separations preview, but they still don't show up.

When searching, I ran across references to user/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS6 Settings/en_US/ but I can't find that either (sounding even dumber). I see users/ myname/ but no library/preferences. I try users/myname/roaming/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS 6 settings /en_us/x64 but nothing there gives me a file folder or a file named preferences (can't feel any dumber). BTW, I am using the file options Show Hidden Files and Show Extensions, and I'm running PC Windows on a 64-bit machine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOn some Illustrator CS5 documents, when I click inside a text box, no insertion point (aka the blinking vertical line, or blinking cursor) is shown. I can see the edges, and can highlight text, so it's not the show/hide edges preference in view as far as I can tell. And I've switched show/hide edges off and on, even with ctrl-H a few times to make sure. So right now I can't tell where my insertion point or cursor is inside a text box until I start typing or highlighting something. The little blinking vertical line is gone! How do I get it back?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe all hide and unhide things constantly as we work.But when you do a Show All (CTRL+ALT+3), to effectively unhide all hidden objects, is there a way to do so without unhiding all hidden sublayers as well.
When I do a Show All, even sublayers that were hidden when the file was opened (and never unhidden) unhide along with all hidden objects.
I have to use a german version of Illustrator and will be translating names of menu items.
I'm working with an illustrator file with several drawing areas. I often need to insert a new drawing area. I then reposition the new area and the content of the old ones by the menu item "arange drawing areas" ("Zeichenflächen neu anordnen") and check the check box "move content with drawing area" (Bildmaterial mit Zeichfläche verschieben"). However, this does not move elements which have been hidden or disabled using the according icons in the layers dialog. How can I achieve this? Actually I would be happy if invisible content would be moved together with its drawing area, since it is somewhat logic that disabled contents are not moved.
More than a problem, this is a doubt. Well, I was working on an illustration, just trying things here and there, and so I have many different layers of elements, some of them I want show, and some of them not (I don't want to delete them though, cause they may be useful later). At some point I realized that when I saved the file and went to see the preview (space bar) in its folder, the image had both hidden and shown elements.
So this is my doubt: is this normal? is there a way to show the preview with only the shown elements? Of course, when I export the file to .png, for example, I get the picture I should get (without the hidden stuff).
I'm trying to remove all hidden page items regardless of how many sublayers they are burried in. I wrote a snippet here that seems to only partly work. It removes all hidden page items unless two hidden items exist right after each other in the stacking order.

Is it possible to use the "Rearrange Artboards" option in the Artboards flyout menu and also move not only the artboard itself but also the hidden artwork (layers, objects, etc.) on that artboard?
I have tried check-marking the "Move Artwork with Artboard" option, but that still does not move the hidden artwork. The default behavior seems to be that only the active or visible artwork is moved along with the artboard, but the hiddden artwork is left behind somewhere on the workspace where the artboard used to be before it was moved.
I find this a little cumbersome, since I often hide artwork that I'm testing and having to make them all visible again to just move them with the artboard would break the dinstinction between all the many very similar layers, objects, etc. that I might be working with at a given time.
I am using Illustrator CS5.5 on a Mac.
Sometimes, after moving stuff around (groups, layers or artboards), I notice that hidden objects didn't move with everything else.
How this can be if no objects are locked ?I cannot make this happen on purpose with a simple example and it is really annoying not to be sure that everything was moved properly.
How can i extend a curved drawn path to include the text thatis hidden on it? I have extended the drawn path (pencil tool) but a red cross in a box symbol stops the text from showing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to make a graphic to be placed on a web page that can be automatically styled in different ways using CSS. The problem is that when I export an SVG from illustrator, the SVG code is stripped of IDs/classes and so the CSS script won't function.
Some background: I work in a group of artists who make graphics in adobe illustrator and we need the ability to take these graphics and restyle them for different contexts. The restyling needs to be done fast.
So far I have tried naming elements on each layer, and I am choosing the Style elements selection in the CSS properties drop down menu
There is a lot if support for using the new versions of illustrator to provide the CSS code to copy and paste into a CSS document but I have not had luck finding support for getting a CSS-ready file out of illustrator
Is there a workaround or plugin that will allow illustrator to export a 'semantic' SVG graphic that can be styled using CSS?
I am just trying to export a illustration which is in Illustrator CC to a SWF file which my client has requested. This, in theory should be as simple as, File, Export, SWF and Save. However just produces a blank file, although all the info suggest it is indeed a SWF file.
