I accidently saved files to the "swatches" folder in AI CS5. Now I can retrieve them OR see them when I look in finder. I've used the finder search and nothing. I'm running on a Mac.
View 4 RepliesI am proficient in Illustrator, but this has been one of a few enigmas. Every once and a while in a file, I have noticed that after deleting a color that is definitely not in use(ie there are no strokes, fills, stray paths etc) using these colors. I have made sure of it. I will delete the color from the swatches and as a final pass I like to add used colors and sure enough that color will come back. I tried making sure it's not checked global, didn't work, some I don't even think are global colors, and in fact they are generally CMYK. I often notice that Black and C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:100 don't like to delete from the swatches among some other colors when you delete unused swatches. I thought perhaps they were in guides or something but it's truly unexplainable, and generally with a fresh file if all colors are deleted it'll still leave black white and gray.
Or ways to troubleshoot better other than creating a debug file and deleting lines of code as recommended in the older forums?
My colour swatches disappeared although I clicked on "show all swatches". What do I have to do to appear regularly when opening Illustrator?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIm in the process of converting a logo to spot colors. When I open the swatches panel and choose any one of the pantone books, the panel opens to what you see below. This same thing happens with all color books except for the basic illustrator books.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having an odd problem in AI CS6, and I first want to try trashing my preferences file, but I can't find it (sounding dumb). When searching, I ran across references to user/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS6 Settings/en_US/ but I can't find that either (sounding even dumber). I see users/ myname/ but no library/preferences. I try users/myname/roaming/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS 6 settings /en_us/x64 but nothing there gives me a file folder or a file named preferences (can't feel any dumber). BTW, I am using the file options Show Hidden Files and Show Extensions, and I'm running PC Windows on a 64-bit machine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMore than a problem, this is a doubt. Well, I was working on an illustration, just trying things here and there, and so I have many different layers of elements, some of them I want show, and some of them not (I don't want to delete them though, cause they may be useful later). At some point I realized that when I saved the file and went to see the preview (space bar) in its folder, the image had both hidden and shown elements.
So this is my doubt: is this normal? is there a way to show the preview with only the shown elements? Of course, when I export the file to .png, for example, I get the picture I should get (without the hidden stuff).
My main user folder on the iMac is set to be shared (read/write, including all enclosed files) with my MacBook Pro. The job is a series of one-page InDesign files (they are newspaper advertisements). The IDD files contain a series of Illustrator files with linked PSD files.The idea is that we can both work on the .idd and .ai files in the same folder at the same time.
It's all working fine EXCEPT that whenever an .ai file is opened on the MacBook, Illustrator doesn't know where the linked PSD files are. We can update the link, but when the .ai file is then opened on the iMac and saved, the same thing happens the next time it is opened on the Macbook.
I don't want to embed the PSD files into the .ai files as sometimes I have to modify them and they can be linked to up to 20 .ai files.
G5 iMac OSX 10.7.5 / Macbook Pro OSX 10.8.2 / networked via FireWire cable / file sharing on, laptop user has Administrator status, all files are read/write, permissions include all enclosed files / CS6
Once you have created your project, chapters and menus and just before you click "burn" to make your disc, click on disc info (it is an icon of a disc with an i on it. There you will find it is not information about the disc but actually more options. My favorite is the ability to add unrelated files to the burn by checking personal folder.
Here you can add a folder to your final disc burn. With this I am able to add raw photo's/vids or whatever so I don't have to burn two discs, one of the edited project and one of the raw data - sort of a Out Takes / Deleted Scenes folder (i.e. Easter egg).
I've recently moved from iPhoto and already had a hard time figuring out how to replicate the "hidden" photos and how not to display them in lists etc. by default.
Now I'm hanging on another thing I simply couldn't find in LR4 yet but believe it must be there - at least it would be a no-brainer to implement this if I were a programmer of LR.
The feature I'm talking about is the user-definable preview picture for each "event" in iPhoto.
In LR, in the Library module, there is this folder selection menu on the left-hand panel. Now when I hover all the folders shown there the picture in the Navigator changes to resemble the respective first picture in each of the folders.
What I want to do is select a different "preview" picture for each folder and save this setting inside the Lightroom catalog I'm currently in.
How do I accomplish that - or is it impossible with the current version of Lightroom?
It is supposed to change hyphens to en-dashes in a ai files in a folder. However, when I run it, it only works on one file. After it makes the change and closes the first file, it stops.

I created a action in Illustrator CS6 (on a PC) which opens PNG files, scales them onto a 8.5 x 11 page, saves them as a PDF into a output folder on my desktop and then closes the page. The action works great and does exactly what I had hoped for.
Here is my issue: I now have a need to do this on multiple files at the same time. Using the Illustrator Help menu, I found out about Batch processing. The tutorial says that a batch can be run on a single file or on a folder of files. Bingo! That's what I want. Problem is, I can't get it to work.
After setting up the batch with the following settings: (note: I didn't use a destination folder because I have the action saving the pdf into an output folder on the desktop).
According to the help page, it said to use Override Action "Open" commands which Opens the files from the specified folder and ignores any Open commands recorded as part of the original action. I thought this is what I needed to open all the files in the folder, because when recording my action, I had to use the open command to open a png file. It wouldn't just let me choose a folder. If I don't have the open command in the action, nothing happens.
My main issue is getting multiple files from within my input folder to open when running the action. The only file that opens is the file that I recorded while creating the action. If I remove that file from the folder, nothing happens at all.
I created an Action to batch export a folder of .ai files to create 300dpi .png's of the .ai file's artboard. I did this by simply recording "Export...as png" with my desired settings then Batch running the Action on desired folder of .ai files. The files were successfully exported, the trouble is that the exported files lack a .png file extension. My intent is to take these PNG files and merge them into a single PDF using Acrobat Pro. Unfortunatly, without the .PNG extension, Acrobat Pro does not recognize the file types and does not let me use the Combine Files feature on them. Going back and manually adding a .png at the end of the exported files defeats the time-saving purpose of Batch Processing all together. Is there something I am missing or doing incorrectly? I have included screenshots of 1) My Batch Action settings 2) folders showing files without .png extension and 3) visual of what I see when I am trying to combine PNGs into a PDF.

I opened my catalog today and went to one of my folders (2011/9 September). I noticed that there were pictures in the folder that did not belong and had the wrong name attached to them. I was surprized so I right clicked selected "Show in Finder" the folder 2011/9 September opened the photo was not in the folder.
Knowing the folder it should be in I went there and sure it enough it is there with it's original name.Went back to lightroom optimized the catalog... still there. Deleted folder in Lightroom, reimported, but the files came back.
The folder on the finder has 96 pictures, the folder in Lightroom shows 146.I can deal with removing the 40 odd files in this situation but I am afraid it will occur in one of the folders where there are a couple of thousand images.All my other folders seem fine for now, what would cause this issue?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a set of process color swatches which I defined as LAB colors. I use them mostly in InDesign. This morning I opened them as a swatch library in Illustrator for the first time. The CMYK numbers are significantly different from what they are in InDesign. Both documents have the same color management policies/rendering intent. I know that there is no "LAB mode" in Illustrator but I'm surprised that it translates the LAB>CMYK in a different fashion than does InDesign. I guess the solution would be to remake my swatches defining them as CMYK colors. However, that somewhat defeats my original plan: define the swatches in LAB so they will get translated as accurately as possible in different programs.I'm using CS4 on a Mac.

Now I want to delete the majority, but I cannot find the directory "Benutzerdefiniert" or "User created?" on the path as hinted by the Illustrator Help (German version: Adobe Illustrator/Vorgaben/de_DE/Farbfelder). I only find the various Color Collections stored during Illustrator installation.

Do color swatches 'stick' to an Illustrator file even after you delete them? I have to use the same spec box on all my documents to relay info to my printer which is in it's own Illustrator doc. BUT when I copy it and paste it into any file I am working on Illustrator always asks me about merging the swatches even tho there is only ONE color being used in my spec box file. My printer is losing patience b/c they think my files are a mess when I send them but my swatch pallet is clean and tidy on my end!

Here is a sample of the Pantone list in the "Swatches" palette: PANTONE 133, PANTONE 1205, PANTONE 1215, etc. and it gets worse. Is there a way to tell them to go into numerical order? Why aren't they already in numerical order? That is the whole point of giving anything a number: order.
In the totally unrelated and incompatible application InDesign you at least have the option of typing in the number you want. In AI you have to scroll through the random swatches until you stumble on it. Now, they are in order. There are rules to this sort of thing just that there are rules for grammer and spelling. If Adobe claims they are in order that is the same as saying they have invented their own language and grammer. Worse, they have invented their own number system. I just moved from CS4 to CS6 illustator. I'm trying to remove the unused swatches in my swatch pallet but do not see this as an option when I click on the menu in the upper right corner of the window.

All these "mystery" swatches are associated with a piece of artwork that was obtained from a stock image website.
Is there a way to replace all "ghost" colors in the doc (colors that don't exist in the swatches palette) with a global process color?
