So I'm able to use the dashed stroke normally if I create my own lines or shapes, but I'm using an image that I have image traced, expanded, and ungrouped, and I'm able to change the weight of the stroke and the brush but not apply a dashed stroke or a different brush profile, but I'm more concerned with the stroke. I haven't forgotten the gap.. What's up? Does it just not work on image traced stuff?
View 3 RepliesI imported the scanned image to illustrator and then used object->image tracer and converted it to a vector graphic with area fill and no stroke. So far so good.
I now want to erase little mistakes in the drawing, that look like this
if I use the eraser, this happens:
so the path is weirdly bend around the stroke of the eraser, which obviously isn't what I wanted to achieve. In all the videos I watched about the eraser, it worked fine and if I just create an area with the blob brush and erase a part of that, that works fine as well. What's so different with the traced image?
I am trying to make a crack wall texture effect on some text in illustrator cs6.
I have some crack texture photoshop brushes I really like, so I brushed on a blank psd canvas and saved it to PNG with transparent background.
I placed that in illustrator and image traced it so that it would create the paths for the cracked effect, but I can't seem to get it to make the paths for me.
I'm trying to do this so I can use the outlined brushes to erase the text layer with the traced crack png, removing the proper paths from the text layer so the text layer is now transparent where those cracks are.
I want to take the traced star (and maybe the text) to use in a video project. I need to make individual objects that I can fill and animate in AE or Premiere. Is Illustrator the right app to use? And where is a tutorial on how this is done?

InDesign CS4 has a "Corner adjustment for dashed stroke" feature which allows corners of a dashed stroke to have the dash part instead of a gap or a small part of a dash. Interestingly, I cannot find this feature in Illustrator CS4. I believe it is included in Illustrator CS5.Is this feature indeed absent from Illustrator CS4?

So I looked up how to reverse the path and found this [URL] but my object options don't have the "reverse path" option
EDIT: I just realized that changing the direction of the path wouldn't work because it would mess up when it's too close to another path (although I still would like to know how to flip the direction regardless).
Usually, when you check the 'dashed line' option on the stroke pallete, you will instantly create a dashed-line stroke on the selected path. What I don't know how to do is retaining the straight property of a dash on curve parts of the path.

In all my research of the new CC features in Illustrator I came across a video that was explaining you can now add a stroke on a placed image. My memory thinks it was a Deke McClellan video but i'm getting too old to rely on my memory being correct and I can't seem to find the video again.
I tried adding a stroke but nothing happeneds.. I still have to mask first then add a stroke.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been a Photoshop hobbyist. Now I own a printing business. This has forced me into the world of Illustrator for our printing and cutting machines. Although I am very comfortable with PS, Illustrator. One of the key things is making "Cut lines" in Illustrator to send to the cutting program. Now here is my dillema, all of my images I have made are in Photoshop. To make these cut lines I have to stroke the image. When I bring a picture into Illustrator I can not get it to stroke that picture. It just strokes the box around it, or unless I draw a circle or shape around it and stroke that shape. Please refer to the picture I have attached. The first one is a decal that we initially made. The second is the image that I want to stroke for cut lines do I can just have that as a decal without the white circle.

View 7 Replies View RelatedDid an image trace on a jpeg. Want to erase some of the trace but when I choose the eraser tool I get the pencil tool with a circle and line going through it. That is not what I chose. It worked last night but not today. Watching a lynda.com tutorial, the same was accomplished by the speaker: he chose the eraser tool to eliminate some of the trace after it was completed.

View 7 Replies View RelatedUpdated Illustrator to CC and now my apply gradient to stroke is acting funny (also does it with apply along stroke). First i can't get it to show up unless I find a number it likes (start out with 1 pt, don't see a stoke so increase size 1 pt at a time up to 11 to see it) now the corners have gotten strange, They seem to be missing small patches. You can see in the image I am not doing anything fancy, it's type and then just to make sure it wasn't a font problem I tried just a rectangle. It seems to be worst with corner set to round joint.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to add a stroke that's aligned to the outside of my path. It appears to be offsetting the stroke *and* moving anchor points at the same time. It does the same kind of thing when I align the stroke to the inside. It is fine when i align the stroke to center. The one that is offset to the top-left is the align-inside one.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe color swatches in toolbar for fill and stroke are not functioning as they should. When I select an object on the artboard, the swatches display fine in the toolbar for what they should be. However, when I double-click on those swatches from within the toolbar to modify the color, the color which comes up is #000000 instead of the actual color it should be.
I am using 16.2.1 (cloud) for Mac OS 10.8.2
I've submitted a bug report.
Also, the eyedropper tool is buggy and occasionally places the #000000 into an object instead of the characteristics the eyedropper is selecting. I don't have any hidden layers or weird groupings, it just randomly decides when it is going to work or not.
I've never had these issues on previous versions of illustrator and have been proficient in all versions since 2007.
I have the trial version for my laptop (windows), and we use a Mac at school. Anyway, I have an assignment to do and it involves creating a 1 pt. black stroke around an image. I found where it says "stroke" but it is either grayed out at top under 'edit', or down on the right 'add a layer style' I hit stroke and nothing changed on my photo. I have looked at the Help menu and tried what they said and still the image won't change. Please help! This assignment is due tonight (I wasn't able to get Photoshop to unzip and open on my computer all weekend which is why it took this long).

I uninstalled and reinstalled the whole suite already, deleted the perference files that i could find. and also look at the rasterizing settings they are the same as mine and another user. Any other things I can try? Where are the default rasterize settings stored at?

The issue I'm currently having is that it want to make a layer mask that fades from the mask to the image behind, from color to transparent to create a smooth transition.
I've attached a sample image of what I'm trying to do. Just note, I used a very round-about method to get this image, but I want to achieve the same effect with a vector mask.
