GIMP :: Editing Text In PSD
May 3, 2012I've attached a file example. Is it possible to edit that text. Or only delete that text layer, and replace it with new text?

View 3 RepliesI am clicking on a layer in GIMP, and when I click on the text tool, this dialog pops up "CONFIRM TEXT EDITING" "the layer you selected is a text layer but it has been modified using other tools. Editing the layer with the text tool will discard these modifications. You can edit the layer or create a new text layer from its text attributes."
with 3 options, Create New layer, Cancel, and Edit however, no matter what I click, it doesn't let me create new text anywhere.ALSO, it seems to jump from the layer i selected to another layer whenever I click "EDIT."
What is weird is that I was able to create new text prior to this, but not anymore. it's gimp 2.8.0
I have been using it to create graphics for the pin-back buttons I make. I have been using the Photoshop 1" button template located on this page:[URL]
The template has the words "perimeter text" that follows the inside of a path on the template. In the video demo on the same page in which the user used photoshop to demonstrate, she just hovers over the text with the mouse after selecting the text tool and is able to click on it and just change the exsisting text. I have not found this to be the case using Gimp. Is there a way I can easily edit this text, or do I have to create my own text along the path? If I have to create my own text along the path, how do I make it so the text follws in inside edge of the path?
I just purchased a plr blog and I cannot figure out how to edit the header text. I want to change the text to match my domain name. The file is a psd but I beleive gimp can edit psd? The header is: [URL] ....
I also uploaded the psd file: [URL] ...............
I downloaded the latest Gimp 2.8 for Mac. Every time I try to edit text it crashes on me. The error log can be found at the thread I opened at Apple [URL]
Here is part of it:

I can't seem to change the text layer in this logo I have attached. I thought if I click on the layer I would be able to change spelling. Do I have to delete the layer and add a new one?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to do a glow effect on a logo that I am working on.. the problem is that all the tutorials I've seen are for single text boxes. I will need to have different sizes and fonts so it requires more than one text box. I can edit the first text box to where I can "path from text," add a new layer, "select from path," create an outline using the "grow" effect and then blur the it so it looks like a soft edge with a different color than the text. I would like to do this for each text box, but when I add a new layer for a new letter and attempt to "select from path" it will only highlight the letter that I've already completed with the glow effect. I'm thinking I will have to save the file each time I create a new glow letter and reopen as a new file to add one more glow letter... but is there a faster way? I've attached a screen shot... the whole logo will read like this:
Affiliated
Wellness
Group
The A,W, and G will be larger and in a different font than the lowercase letters when its done. SO I will have 6 text boxes total.
I have a scanned document but need its text edited/altered. Got be done by tomorrow morning Its only 3 words that need editing and i will send the document to interested parties as its rather personal.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried GIMP on Linux Mint and was delighted.A bit annoying, though, was that the on-canvas-text-editing parameters box can't be turned off, because it's in the way when I want a full view of my graphic while I'm typing and editing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I am editing text, GIMP will no longer apply italic nor bold effects. (Underline works though.)
I just upgraded from 2.8(.2?) to 2.8.6, and now I have this problem. I also just upgraded from Win XP to WIn 7 and upgraded from 32-bit to 64-bit, so I don't know if that is a factor.
I have files I created with the last version of GIMP that I can open and see the text properly formatted, but if I adjust the text the formatting disappears and WILL NOT come back.
GIMP won't print anymore either. My printer is set up correctly and I can print from other programs, but when I print from GIMP, it LOOKS like it went through, but the printer fails to do anything. I wind up having to tell GIMP to print to the microsoft xps writer (which DOES work) and then open the xps file I just made and have windows print it.
Photoshop CC up to date

Restart of file and PS didn't resolve the issue

When attempting to add simple text on an individual layer, the layer is turning black. This prevents me from seeing the text I'm editing. When I move to another layer the text displays correctly. When I go to edit the text by clicking the image the layer goes black again. It is like editing text in the dark, turning the light on to see the changes, turning the light off to make the changes, repeat.
A company that works with graphic design uses Photoshop and always sends me their work in PSD files.
I read in another post that having them Rasterize the file will work with text editing and presenting the colors properly in GIMP. I was wondering if this is all it takes to be able to edit/rework a PSD files in GIMP? Are there plugins I need or other steps I can take take or am I just going to have to use photoshop?
I want to edit a lot of pictures for a catalog. Just make them look a bit old so a somple filter should do just fine. But is it possible to set the changes and then select a folder or a number of pictures to get them changed?
I would like to know what is the fastest way to change about 100 pictures.
Is there a way to select a layer for editing other than by clicking on it in the layer panel?
I currently have a >200MB xcf file with nearly 100 different layers which I need to adjust before I merge then down a bit. I have found that you can find where the layer is in the list by holding the left mouse button down while hovering the cursor over it, but it always then disappears off the screen and it's a chore trying to find it. I have all the layers named, but it would be a lot more convenient if there was a way to select the layer through the image itself?
How can I remove the background from this image [URL]....... so that it is ready for editing in with a new background (need to create a mag front cover using this image).
View 2 Replies View RelatedOne set is light, and the other is "dark," so to speak. Just wondering what filters and what not are used. I am aware that a lot of it comes from the actual lighting itself while the photo is being taken. I am just wondering what is being used and how this is done.
The "light" photos some "pin-up" technique, I am guessing. (Moti Malul Photography):

The "dark" photos. I am guessing a lot of dodge and burn, but to what extent?
Import a pdf-file that only contains (scanned) images [book pages]. Rotate them (okay I can do this). Seperate and/or crop them (I can do this but my way is so complicated). Export back into a single pdf file. (I can't do this).
Usually I have a scanned book. So sometimes there are two pages on one image. To have an easier readability I like to seperate those. So what I do is:
- I cut/crop the page out of the image with the two pages
- I place that in a new layer
- I rotate that layer if needed (I use the transform tool, but it is a bit difficult to tell if the text is perfectly rotated, in Photoshop there is an automatic tool, is there one in gimp?)
- I go on with the next page
Problem is that layers are not of the same size. So I have to drag them around to have them (layers) all centered. Also image quality is much lower after importing it to gimp. How do I figure the original resolution of the image saved in the pdf? When I have them all in new layers exporting them to pdf will always result in one single page with only the first layer.
So is there an easier way to do this? Also why does exporting not work?
I'm using Gimp 2.8 on Ubuntu 12.04.
I installed Gimp successfully last night, but right clicking in the images in Windows Explorer does not bring up Gimp as an option to open for editing, even when I browse for it, nor is it an option for editing from Picasa which I use to organise my photos.

I'm looking for information on how to edit the settings for the Filters/Decor/Add Border. I'd love to set this to a 2 px border in black rather then the bright blue 25 px border.
I'm using Gimp 2.6 on a Mac running 10.6 and would like to know how to edit the filter.
Is it possible to directly edit the alpha channel? I need to edit it for a 3D model I've made, and its showing up as too shiney (The engine is looking at the alpha for reflectivity).
However, I have yet to see a way to edit the alpha channel directly.
I've got a problem with basic image editing in GIMP.The screenshots should give understanding. I have GIMP 2.6 on Windows 7.GIMP wont allow me to move anything around in the darker area of this image("IconOverlay.png" - attached).
I've tried reinstalling GIMP as well as deleting the user preferencesfolder. I've also tried copying the image into a new GIMP window and editing it inthat, but it doesn't work. This has never happened before on any other image I've edited.
I keep getting the following error message in Gimp:
Calling error for procedure 'gimp-image-set-resolution': Procedure 'gimp-image-set-resolution' has been called with value '-1.#IND00' for argument 'yresolution' (#3, type gdouble). This value is out of range.
then the picture closes!
i switched gimp 2.6 to 2.8 and new text tool behaves strangely, as i remember in gimp 2.6 when i try to change text content with selecting old text and pasting new text i could use same text size and same font with my old text without doing anything but now in the gim 2.8 whenever i try to change content of a text layer i need to choose again font and text size from toolbox options, but why do i have to do this, i have a text placed on my image with a certain font and certain font size and i just want to alter my text conten not the size of text or font , it changes automatically to back text size and font whatever i used last time in another work.
summary: i want to change my text content without setting my font and font size properties, i want to use my text layers old properties
I use your program & believe that it is the best photo editing application year-to-date beside Adobe Photoshop & it's FREE.
Since the Q2 your website had stated the version 2.7.2 had been released @ 04/15/2011, however I can't find anywhere @ your website to download this recent version & continue to take advantage of it.
URL as to where to download it version 2.7.2?
For years I've been using various image editors, often in combination. That is, I do simple stuff as copy / paste and repositioning of elements in one editor and subsequently open the image in a more advanced editor for proper paintwork. Currently I'm using the Gimp for the latter. Color layers work brilliantly. However, I have big problems with my alpha channel--I've found no way to edit it within Gimp and I've found no way to import a revised version that I've edited in another image editor. There must be solutions to both challenges.
The editing I require is piece-of-cake in basic image editors--I simply want to move a transparent region a bit to the left. That should be a simple rectangle selection and then shoving it (mouse or arrow keys) to where I want it. Alternatively I could import my edited alpha channel image as I'm used to doing in other editors. Well, the Gimp will accept the image as a layer all right but I haven't succeeded in making the Gimp import my grayscale image as an alpha channel. I get a grayscale non-transparent layer instead.
So, I've got a perfectly good alpha channel that needs a minor tweak. It loads as intended in Gimp. How to perform basic editing of this alpha channel layer or tell me how to import a revised version and tell Gimp that this image should be interpreted as an alpha channel?
In GIMP 2.8, I'm having an issue with font settings not sticking with copied layers.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Click the text tool, then click the canvas.
2. Type the word "Cow".
3. Double Click the word "Cow" and set it to a fancy font, pink, and 24pt.
4. Select the "Cow" text layer and duplicate it.
5. Move the duplicated layer down. You now have two "Cow" layers in a pink, fancy, 24pt font.
6. Double click the word "cow" in the copied layer to highlight the word "Cow".
7. Type "Chicken" over the word "Cow"
Expected result:
The text is now "Chicken" in a fancy, pink, 24pt font.
Actual result:
The text is now "Chicken" in the default font.
In order to keep the font you want, you have to insert the new text after the first letter of the existing word. ie: "CChickenow", then remove the extra "ow" from the end, then remove the "C" from the beginning. This is very tedious and frustrating.
I am aware that you can set a default font to whatever you want (except making it bold by default?). But, if I copy a layer and type over it, it's because I wanted to copy the appearance of the layer, not start over with a new one. Is there a setting I can change? Or is this a known issue with text editing in 2.8?
I have installed the fonts but the amount of color editing and customization I can do is very, very small. For example I want to take a letter have it colored purple (so far so good) and then give a border to the letter like thin line of yellow (no option that allows me to do this).
we are talking about pretty big letters here but I cant seem to be able to do this. I am trying to edit this pre existing image and trying to enter dialogue bubbles with thin colored borders.
As for the dialogue/though bubbles themselves I can seem to find any "insert shape" inside gimp, you sometimes characters are yelling or crying or just speaking normally has to be shown by the dialogue bubble but I cant seem to be able to do it.
I have used photoshop before but it is very complex and I feel like I can work with GIMP much more easier and faster but none of these basic options seem to be available. Are there addons to install so I can work easier with than making every single dialogue bubble from scratch? *shudder*
Edit: I am using both the new version and the 2.6 version... I find the new version absolutely terrible, especially when it comes to saving your work as an image file but if necessary I will work with both versions.
The image is basically a scanned copy of a letter. The image is in JPEG format and the size is around 200kb. Now I want to edit the image(the scanned letter). I only want to edit the content of the letter yani the text of the letter.
Specifically speaking I want to add some text in the image. The text has to be in the same font, size etc etc so that it does not looks like it has been editied.
i'm trying to follow this tutorial on how to make ice Text. Right in the beginning of the turtorial it asks me to create a new document so big...blah blah. It tells me to use the type tool to add some text. And then press ok and cut the text, then paste the text to automatically center it. Thats just it...it wont let me cut the text.
