Recently, i installed gimp 2.8 on my Ubuntu OS and found out that lot of factory installed brushes are missing. I had lot of brushes in gimp 2.6 but can't find many basic brushes in gimp 2.8.
I'm watching a tutorial that was made with GIMP 2.6 and I notice there are brushes no longer included in 2.8- Is there a place to download only the brushes they took out?
I've been a GIMP user for a number of years now and it's always worked well for me, but since 2.8 came out I keep on experiencing crashes.
Some occur randomly, but the most common one is while attempting to zoom in or out by holding Ctrl and scrolling the mouse wheel. When I do this, either nothing happens, so no zooming (and moving up/down with mouse wheel doesn't work either), or GIMP just crashes, naturally deleting all my work in the progress. Sometimes just hitting Ctrl is enough to make it crash.
Starting GIMP through command line gives me this output upon crash..
I am running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I have Gimp 2.8.2 installed (Version: 2.8.2-1ubuntu0ppa2~precise). When I use the Text Tool in GImp, and try to change the Font, either via the left had side in the panel, or via the pop-up Gimp crashes. It crashes in 1 window mode, or not. It crashes in my account, and also in a guest account. It also crashes if I remove the scripts via the preferences menu. Here is what I get for an error message:
(gimp:14607): Pango-WARNING **: failed to create cairo scaled font, expect ugly output. the offending font is 'Agency FB Bold Condensed 16'
(gimp:14607): Pango-WARNING **: font_face status is: <unknown error status>
(gimp:14607): Pango-WARNING **: scaled_font status is: out of memory
In Gimp 2.8.4 on Ubuntu 13.04, I cannot select more than one layer. Shift+click does not work, so aligning layers is not possible either. The two packages I installed are Gimp itself and gimp-plugin-registry.
I need to revert to GIMP version 2.6. proper BASH commands to do this in an Ubuntu system.
Evidently I am not the "power-user" type for whom the GIMP team designed their 2.8 version. I only have about 20,000 photos, and I need to revise the JPGs or preferably work with PNGs. I tried resetting the keybinding to "overwrite," but even so, every time I close a file (about 25 x/day) it warns me that I have unsaved changes--because the GIMP PolitBuro has decided that only XCF is worthy, not my miserable uncompressed PNG (which is what I can use for my academic presentations. Default image viewers in Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu don't read the XCF format).
So I need to revert to version 2.6 in a responsible way (repositories, dependencies, etc) while I wait for a fork to emerge so that I can switch to a full-featured raster editor designed by a less-condescending team of developers.
I have many programs on my Ubuntu 12 machine that use text, LibreOffice, Scribus, etc. Each of those works quite well. In GIMP 2.8, the entire program works fine for my from what I can tell with the exception of the text tool. I can select the tool, enter text, I can bold, underline it, I can change to color, as well as the fint size. GIMP will crash however each and every time I try to change the font, be it on the floating text dock (above the text window on the canvas) or the Text toolbar on the left had side of the screen (single window mode). I get no drop down selection box, I merely click in either area, a short freeze of the program and the program quits. Any error report I can send/paste? I am relatively new to bu reporting in Ubuntu, so would need step by step instructions of necessary documentation etc.
I have possibly worn out my copy of photoshop6 as all the "icons" for my brushes don't show. I have tried everything I've read in help forums (and I had 2 yrs of graphics school) BUT...all I get with brushes, paint, erase anything, is just a curser blink.I can see them on the list.
I was trying to install some brushes into the Brushes Preset folder but the only folders in the "Adobe Photoshop CS6" folder in the tree below doesn't have it. It's only a couple of random looking folders. I'm running OS 10.7.5 and CS6.
I have gone through the correct procedure for downloading new brushes from Deviantart. On my computer they appear now in my Gimp/brushes folder with the Gimp icon, so I know the file format is correct. I have closed Gimp and restarted..even restarted the computer and cannot get them to show in Brushes with Gimp open on a new project.
I would like to clean up my gimp. I want to get rid of all the fonts and brushes that I have previously downloaded. Is there a way to do this without having to reinstall gimp? (I do not remember which fonts are the default and which ones are not.)
Why I cannnot export brushes in GIMP2.8. Each time I attempt to export the file I get the message telling me the "Saving "C:Program FilesGIMP 2 shareGIMP2.0rushes snow.gbr failed. It says the permission is denied for opening that directory. I have saved brushes before and not had the problem.
so i thought i was smart and created some new brushes. added them no problem (or so i thought) but to my dismay i cannot find my default brushes; the only available ones are those i created. did my saving the new brushes somehow delete the core collection?
So I've finally upgraded to GIMP 2.8, finding that .abr was native. I've downloaded thousands of brushes, only a hundred work, MAYBE. I'm confused because even the brushes that are not in .abr form do not work. Also, sometimes if I try to fix the brushes by uninstalling and reinstalling there will be random ones that work and then old ones disappear?
Recently I have been noticing that while I am drawing on gimp using my tablet at times the brushes start to freak out and just keep rotating constantly.
I cant make a straight line using a rectangle shaped brush. And this happens to all the brushes. It just makes everything look really messy.
I am an avid gamer and like using gimp to make maps for my games. Now I have look all over for a way to make brushes there own layer with out having to go through the hole seal of creating a new layer shrinking it to fit the brush. then having to drag the new layer to were I want it then having to place the brush.
I just wish to place the brush and automatically have it as a new layer. I have been told to look at Gimp::fu but I don't under stand how to do that kind of stuff.
I bought a new computer - still have access to the old one through ssh.The old computer running suse11.3 has many gimp brushes that I made.New computer running suse11.4, gimp 2.6.11How can I get my brushes (the ones I made) over to the new computer/newGimp?
I am using the newest version of Gimp. Everything is great, it runs smooth and not many crashes..But! I cant make brushes or Patterns. in the older versions all you had to do was select what you wanted as a brush/pattern name it, and it would appear
Now, I get this Error: (<unknown> : 18850791) Procedure execution of file-gbr-save failed: Could not open 'C:Documents and SettingsNorseman.gimp-2.8/brushes/mybrush14.gbr' for writing: No such file or directory
Am I missing something? Do I need to reinstall Gimp?I havent loaded any new patterns or brushes, so I dont know why its not working?
i installed it shows up in my python i click it, it shows my brushes i choose the brushes BUT it does not load at all and i even try moved all of my brushes to another folder....is it because of the preferences?
I just saw a video about using photoshop where they selected 'scar-like' brushes and rotated the brush. Is there a way to rotate brushes in Gimp? Also are there any realistic brushes or brush sets out there?
i recently upgraded to 2.8 from 2.6 and i'm having a tough time importing my brushes. i've tried creating a custom folder in the 'brushes' folder and exporting them there. i've tried a simple drag and drop. nothing seems to work. am i missing something or is what i'm trying to do impossible?
how change brushes to paint in colour. I have downloaded quite a number and the screen shots before you download them show them in colour but when you go to use them they are all grey scale.
i have no problems installing new brushes when using windows, you simply extract the brushes in the brushes folder of course I am doing exactly the same thing with my linux machine but I cant seem to get the brushes when i restart Gimp in linux. I even tried extracting the brushes in a couple of other folders within the Gimp/brushes folder. Still they fail to appear ?
My laptop did crash last month so...I was a GIMP 2.6 user and now I have Gimp 2.8 . There's something not right with the custom brush size. I made a round brush 201 X 201 pixels. I also made another one 2001 X 2001 pixels. I did crank up the size of the brushes to the "max"( but no matter what size you choose) and...both are of the same size on the image ???
I rarely use a green pepper in my work! I found the folder to add custom brushes but where is the folder that contains the default brushes. I am running the latest version of GIMP with Windows 7.
I used gimp 2.6 for awhile just to do simple isolations for various projects.
Recently my gimp 2.6 crashes while trying to load gradients, so i upgraded to 2.8 and all of the brushes that were in 2.6 are gone and NONE of them have anti-aliasing edges so i can isolate things with fuzzy alpha edges.
how to turn this back on or create a brush that has anti-aliasing edges?
