Dec 23, 2012When creating text, can not seem to get any color but black. Grab text with text tool, chose a new foreground color, foreground color will change, text color in options bar will change, but text stays black.
If trying to gradiate the text. Again, I choose a color, pick the gradient tool, set the type of gradient, all looks good, new color with white background, but still it comes out as new color and black. Have try making the foreground white with new background color, but still only get black.

Jan 1, 2013I need to create an outline map for another application. The world is demarcated into areas, separated by black lines. The map must only have black & white pixels.
Some questions about using GIMP for this.
1. Is there a tool I can use to make every non-white pixel black?
2. Is there a tool I can use to eliminate isolated pixels of the wrong color (that is for me a black pixel with all neighbors white or vice versa)?
3. Is there a tool I can use to make the black lines thinner? It is desirable in my application to have the lines be only 1 pixel wide

GIMP :: Black Alpha Destroys Color Information
Mar 24, 2011I have a texture for an object that will be rendered. The RGB for the texture contains diffuse color, and the Alpha channel contains a special parameter for the shader. The value for the parameter is 0 for 99% of the pixels.
In my XCF I have diffuse color on one layer, and the special parameter on another layer (as a greyscale).
So I copy the diffuse layer and call the copy Final. Then I create a layer mask on the parameter layer using the greyscale value. I copy the layer mask from the param layer to the Final layer, and then I apply the layer mask to Final, which should simply write the mask to alpha.
I look at the channels window to be sure, and alpha is written correctly, BUT everywhere that alpha is black THE OTHER THREE CHANNELS ARE ALSO BLACK! I can't fix this! What do I do? I even tried exporting to see if it carries through to the output image, and it does!
What's more, I tried to trick it by putting a very low value (like 1/2) in the pixels that are supposed to be 0 in alpha, and then I get an even weirder effect, wherein most of the color is kept, but some pixels color information is trashed anyway. Is there an export mode which will tell GIMP not to trash the color information on fully transparent pixels? Or better yet, can I tell it that alpha is not transparency?

Jun 19, 2013I have 2 layers and I want to mask one through the other. I've attached a png showing what I want. I tried to attach an .xcf file, but it won't do it, which seems strange for a gimp forum. Anyway, one layer is the text (black outline) and one layer is a colorful background. In the xcf, the background layer is entirely filled with the colorful stuff, but I want it to only show through the interior of the letters (as shown in the png).

The blur does not look completely right to me because I just used the free select tool and would copy the coin part of the picture out and paste it back on with a different layer and line it up as well as I could. In X3 and earlier versions it was quite easy to add new colours and edit existing ones. I would also like to know how to move the order of the colours in the palette so that I can put one a custom colour near the top.
FYI I would like make these changes to the master / global CMYK palette, not just the one for a specific document palette.

Jun 5, 2013I did put a real photo in the background of my website to fit entire page. So the text of my webpage is black, and sometimes other colors. So what happen is that some times the text is hard to read when it come on top of dark places of the photo (for example hear of people). So i want to adapt the photo to make it more unicolor, more whiten (increase whiteness) so the black text will appear even better.

Sep 3, 2013I'm trying to create a test font where the font changes to an opposite color than the stripe running 'through' it. Problem is I don't know if there is a specific name for this style, so all my searches have failed. I have attached a sample image and will explain.
The image has a phone cover with alternating red/blue stripes. There is a white cursive script font running vertical but the script is white. What I would like to try and do is make the script red where the stripe is blue and blue where the stripe is red. In effect, the font become a negative of the color it touches.

Apr 30, 2012I am currently creating templates for my drawings in order to standardise their use which includes the creation of templates, multileader styles, text styles etc... and placing them in custom tool palettes. I am also looking to add standard blocks such as fasteners and steel sections to my tool palettes however this has thrown a bit of a curveball. Basically I want all the blocks that I place in the tool palettes to move with the .dwt file I have created. At the moment it would appear that the source of the block is within the filing structure of the computer as apposed to just the template file it is placed in. Is there anyway to resolve this, or have the blocks so that they are stored within the template so that if the template is moved onto say a stand alone laptop elsewhere the blocks that appear in the tool palettes would go with the dwt file?

i want to save the palette and use it with another picture to have the same color-palette on two different images.
The "match color" tool comes close to the result i want to have...but it works with the contrast too and adds colors that i don't want..I JUST want to work with the available colors... simply extract a color palette from an image and use it with a second one to get them match...(without adding something)
I found some tools to do this with 256 color images but I want to to this with my 8bit or 16bit files from my camera.
I think it's a simple answer but I can't find it....I hope someone can help me....
