GIMP :: Adding Text To Photos
Dec 12, 2011I'd like to copy and paste text created in MS Word onto photographs. I'd like to create a poster with an inspirational message super-imposed upon the picture itself.
Will GIMP allow this?

I would like to add a specific word to all the photos that I process. Not only in one set, but always on all photos.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy husband and I get floor plan layouts emailed to us for work. I am able to import them and everything looks fine. I add all my text and everything looks great on my computer screen.
When I export it in a PDF file and open it up all the text is super small and sometimes not in the same place I typed it. When we print them out they need to be 36x24 so the writing needs to be somewhat big and in the right place. I am sure it is just user error!
I am trying to add an outline to text. Follow all the instructions and it has worked in the past, but most of the time it doesn't.
I select the text, then choose "path from text".
At this point the marching ants come out - but they only come out for about 2/3 of the text. The rest doesn't have them. When i try to create the outline it only creates it for the first two thirds. The missing 1/3 is on the right hand side. I tried to do a screen shot but the marching ants don't show.
When i upgraded recently the issue went away so i thought it was just a bug, but now its back.
I know how to create text with a background picture inside the text. I want to put this text onto another image. So the text with the background inside the letters, will be superimposed on new image.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm creating text along a path and then stroking the outline and adding a gradient fill - this is all fine. The problem comes when I want to move it, as once the text is added along the path, it often doesn't follow the path until the end so I'd like to centre it on the page, or maybe move it vertically a bit to fit around other stuff as I add to the image.

I am the leader of a program at church and there is a logo for it. I am endeavoring to take that logo saved on my HD reduce its size ( I know How ) then add text to bottom and save it as a signature in pictures to use with the group.
I am trying to make a montage/collage for my sister's birthday and have the background image and the other images all sorted.
What I would like to do now is add text saying 'Happy Birthday' into the main image, so that it looks as though it is part of the background.
I'd like it to sink into the background or be embossed and take on the colors of said background too, if possible.
I tried to type some alt characters today when adding text and they didn't work?
Is there something I need to do to enable this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm building a site with WordPress and installed a plugin that will create a slider of images on the front page. For each image, there is specific text that goes with the image (just a simple quote). If it's possible to use Gimp to add text to the side of an image and not actually on the image?
Here's a link to the front page of the site that I'm attempting to add the text to. Currently, the photos are there and you will see the blank space next to the images. This blank space is where I would like to add the text. I've contacted the creator of the plugin and there is no way of doing this from within the plugin, itself.

I had been using 2.8.0, adding some text to graphics. I came back from a brief break, and the next time I added text, the font was extremely narrow, to the point that it was illegible.
At first I tried simply shutting GIMP down and restarting. No such luck. Next, I uninstalled GIMP, then I ran CCleaner to get rid of any residual files and settings, then I reinstalled GIMP, still using the 2.8.0 Windows installer, and still, the issue persisted.
** EDIT ** I tested ALL fonts, the problems happens with each one.
So I uninstalled again, did the CCleaner thing, then downloaded and installed 2.8.8, and the problem still persists.
Again, fonts and texts had been working without an issue all day. I stepped away from my PC to get food. There was no one in the house that could have messed with any settings, no pets to accidentally press keys or anything like that.
I am at a complete loss. I've looked at every possible setting I could think of that could possibly impact how fonts are rendered, and changing settings still does nothing.
I have found an inconvenient workaround for this problem, but at least I can now get some work done.
The problem still occurs when I try to insert text into an EXISTING image, but if a create a NEW IMAGE with a background color, text displays and renders as it should. If I choose a transparent background, I still get the problem with the text rendering too narrow to be legible.
So something about existing images and/or transparent backgrounds contributes to this issue. But as long as I create my text layer in a new image, I can then just copy and paste that layer into the image I want to edit, and I can even edit the text once it has been pasted without problems.
Still, this is very inconvenient, especially when I am trying to place text in precise positions.
What is the simplest way to "automate" the application of text captions to jpg photos. I have in mind to generate a "layer" into which I can paste the caption text to a predetermined position (eg bottom right).
This layer would then be "added" to the jpg photo to show on the photo when viewed in the usual way. The more automated this process could be, the better as, if successful, I would use it hundreds of times.
Can lightroom find randomly distributed photos on a hard drive and add them? Preferably I would only like it to locate nef files.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have VSX4 and I often edit videos using gifs, however they no longer animate when I add them to the library and timeline. It's been a while since I last used it but I can't figure out why my VS is now showing them only as photos of the first frame in the gif. Gifs used to work fine by simply dragging them in.
I'm not very technical so I'm hoping there is a simple solution which has evaded my attention.
I recently did a concert and I would like to know how to add my watermark to several photos at once rather that creating the watermark for every sigle photo every time.
View 8 Replies View Relatedhow to add a transaprent overlay logo to the main photo.
What I want to do is take one of my photos of my pet parrot and turn it into a sort of tranparent overlay and copy / paste it quickly and easilly onto all my other photos..........sort of like a "this is my calling card" to stop other people pinching my photos (not that they are that good though).
I've seen on the net how to use the text copyright logo tool on CS2, but can't find anything anywhere about how to use one of your own photos..........
I got the cropped foto and the background in two diferent fotos. When I open them in photoshop CS they appear in diferent "screen or frame" and can't put them together in the same layer.
View 2 Replies View Relatedtill LR 4.1 it was easy to add photos to an existing collection. I just selected photos and dragged+dropped them on the name of the collection. Job done. This seems not to work in LR 4.2 any longer. I can only add photos to a collection by using the context menu of the collection ("Add marked photos to this collection" [most probably the correct English term is different as I work with the German edition of LR 4.2]). Is this supposed to be a feature - or just a bug?
Additionally I can't put photos in an individual order any more. Sorting them by date, name etc - easy! But rearranging the manually doesn't work any longer with my version. Again: feature or bug?
For some reason, the photos that I add watermarks to aren't saving with the watermarks on them.

First I select all the photos by clicking shift and the 1st photo, then I select the last photo. All photos I want to add are highlighted. But I can't drag all the photos at once. When I try to drag, the 1st photo is only selected. What is are the correct click, drag and drop key strokes to get it right? Dragging and dropping one photo at the time is just not feasible.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI think I may have made a big error. While adding text and applying (experimenting) various "Effects" with the text, I used the garbage can icon to remove the "Effect", thinking it is going to remove the 'Effect" from the text, until I realized I had to remove the "Effect" with the edit button, not the garbage can. Have I now permanently removed the various "Effects" permanently or just off the screen? How do I regain them back onto the menu column? How many "Effects" should be visible in order to have the complete set? This was my first experiment with the lettering effects and hope I haven't lost them forever.
