AutoDesk Smoke :: Cannot Browse Local Gateway - Connection Refused
Jun 25, 2012
I get this message each time I want to go to the mediahub. I already uninstalled smoke 2013 and deleted the /usr/discreet folder After reinstalling smoke 2013 creating a fresh project the mediahub works fine But after quiting and restating smoke I get the message cannot browse local gateway: Connection refused
I'm running Smoke 2012 on a fully loaded MBP. I'm having problems exporting QTs. Constantly get this error:
Cannot get local IFFFS wiretap server's storage id: Connection refused.
I have to do a full power cycle, then maybe it will work. This used to be an occasional occurrence, but now happens almost every time, unless I've only just powered up. Once Smoke has been running for a few minutes, forgetaboutit. I never have this problem when I can use the Export button; but this button is greyed out when QT is selected, which means it has to be dropped into the queue, then exported from the background page. Perhaps this is where the issue lies.
Is it possible to get a Wiretap Gateway running on a Mac to show network volumes mounted on it?
I'm trying to get a gateway setup so I can get ProRes into my Smoke. Everything is running, I can see my "Helper Monkey" from the MediaHub in the network, and browse to it.. but all I see is the System volume, although I have 2 Windows shares mounted from a server. I'd like to avoid having to copy all the media locally to the Mac HD first, and just let it read from over the network off another workstation. I realize the performance implications, but I'd like to use this to create cache media on the Smoke so I don't care much.
I have not licensed the gateway yet since I was just seeing if I can get it to work at all first (I'm actually trying running the Mac in a VM because my actual Mac Pro is old and won't run 64-bit.
I can tell you cannot Gateway Import from a drive that is Read-Only. The clip seems to work, it just says pending render, of course when you import a large number of files it always says pending render. Unfortunately it never actually finishes pending render, and will list as failed in Backburner.
So you can for instance think you have relinked an entire timeline and start doing a fair amount of work on it, but you will then be unable to send this large timeline to your flame like you think.
There is no god damned reason it should allow you to gateway import something that you cannot actually gateway import. All it would need to do is check if the drive is read only before it does it and give you an error message IN THE APPLICATION. Rather than everything looking fine, but then making you go tease the meaning out of this from backburner:
smk001 1896942624 swBIOSubJobServer.C:298 01/21/12:18:14:05.450 1896942624 swBIOAdapter.C:403 01/21/12:18:14:06.504 Cannot process tasks 0... in /var/tmp/WireJob/SubJob0.
Read-only file system on processing S+W server..The fact that the color correct house had randomly given me an NTFS drive this time didn't occur to me for quite awhile, since the last two were both macOS.
I can't render anything and I know this has been addressed before, but I still don't see a solution, I have no Available Local Services under my Preferences/Backburner. We wan't to purchase smoke but can't trust that it will work on our system.
I'm coming from a Smoke Linux perspective so the terms might not be right:
Pre-Release 6, I've imported and EDL, linked it to DPX film scans on the network, and consolidated 10 frame handles. I can "cache" the files locally as ProResHQ, but how do I do a "store local copy"? That is make a copy of the DPX files I need on my machine.
I imported a Final Cut sequence via XML into Smoke. The media is 1080p25 ProRes 422 HQ and is located on our SAN. I need to do some green screen work. I have two clips and an Axis effect on the upper clip.
Adjusting the keyer and scrubbing that segment of the timeline is painfully slow so I want to copy just the two clips I am working on, to the local storage.
Is there a way to do this directly from the timeline? I only want what's in the timeline. Not the whole length of the original media.
I am conforming three 2 minute long sequences and am trying to soft import all the footage, then conform, then consolidate to 24 frame handles, then Store Local Copy all the footage (only used in each sequence). I feel like i used to get a "Pending Render" super over the preview player in the Library. For some reason i am not getting this message. Is there any way to check the progress of the Store Local Copy, or to make sure that smoke is actually storing a local copy? The drive that the media lives on is a 2TB GRaid and i am getting awful performance in smoke when trying to do anything with the clips/sequences, which i expected...
I have been learning smoke on various machines and different versions of the prereleases and service packs. I'm using SP2 now and II see older local projects listed in the media hub but they don't show up in the start-up screen listing of projects. how to regain access to these projects?
I have a number of clips that were soft imported, then used in the paint module to remove some blemishes. I have since done a 'store local copy' on the original clips.
The painted clip still has the 'soft' indicator. How do I update the painted clip?
Is there a way to go into the history of the painted clip and replace the soft import with the local copy? Do I 'store local copy' on the painted clip?
I made it through a project with a few Smoke crashes, mostly on a particular clip. Then when I go back to make revisions a day later I get this message:
Error: VOLUMEMGT: Failed to initialize Stone+Wire connection.
Everything was working fine up to that point besides the few Smoke crashes that recovered with no problem.I am really in a bind now and need to finish this project urgently.sw_logs_2.txt
I get error error "Failed to Initialize Stone + Wire connection when I start Smoke 2013. It working fine for 3 weeks.I uninstalled, reinstall, and still cannot get it to work.
Do I need to get a new download? Someone said it may be due to my internet connection.
Cannot read data on socket: Software caused connection to abort
I imported an AAF linking to R3D and Sony footage. When I tried scrubbing the timeline, I got that message. Smoke is REALLY slow now. And when I try to look at footage in my gateway, I get READ ERROR.
Also, the proxies don't start rendering in the backburner...

I know that the AJA Kona 3 card has 2 outputs. Can Smoke send one eye to one channel and the other eye to the other of the Kona 3 card? Dual Stream output is what I am really getting at.
Is there any way that Smoke can see/output sub-blacks and super whites? Can't find any way of seeing them on my scope, Smoke just clamps everything. It won't even see anything below zero in order for me to make a correction on it, everything seems to be clamped on import. I'm using ProRes HQ footage.
What is the best plugin to do spline warps in smoke?(need something like the distort in flame) I notice revisionfx don't make a warper for smoke on mac.
I am experimenting with Smoke 2013 pre-trial and I am having issues with importing images and video with alpha channels.
1. If I have a layered Photoshop file or png with an alpha channel (a still frame lower third), I see that I can import it as a multi layered clip, but what is the best way to have it in the sequence to show up properly?
2. If I have a QuickTime in animation format or Pro Res4444 format with an embedded alpha, how can I import that file to show and cut it on a top layer to animate above my video?
Does Smoke have selection functionality similar to that of Combustion? As an example, you might want to selectively blur part of an image. In Combustion, you would draw a selection and then apply an operator above the selection to achieve this. I don't see a similar selection tool function in Smoke, but I imagine you could achieve the same effect by duplicating a layer and using a Gmask via the Wipe timeline FX.does Smoke not have a selection tool similar to Combustion?
Whats the dealing with importing TWs to Smoke? I have a show that's 70% keyframed with timewarps and need a way other then baking the effect to bring it into Smoke. It's comming from FCP7 and we have Automatic Duck but neither the XMLs or AAF bring anything other then the first speed of the clip. Any way to retain the keyframes?
My (previously wonderful) local adjustment brush has apparently quit working. Whenever I attempt to make local adjustments - using either the standard presets or custom settings - all the adjustments made are applied to the entire image, not just locally. Density and flow are set to my typical values and Show Selected Mask Overlay shows the extent of the applied effect, but whatever adjustment I make is applied generally, over the entire photo, rather than to the selected adjustment area.
I have an original version of Photoshop CS3. I run Windows 7 32 bit. After an update of the operating system by MS, my Photoshop refused to work, whereas before the MS update, the software worked perfectly.
i am having so much trouble getting my photo book order. It is all don't and ready to be ordered. When it is done preparing for order i get a online service error 3:OLS refused to provide a preview for file.
Problem converting with DWGgateway PDF converter for autoCAD 2002.
Every time I try to convert my drawing in paperspace to a PDF, the objects in the model space do not show up. However everything on paperspace appears. The layers are not set to do not plot.
I have RED footage which I exported as EXR. When I import them back in, they look exactly like the RED footage. But when I import the EXR in Fusion, export it back out, and then import that EXR into Smoke, it looks brighter, although I didn't change anything in Fusion. (when I compare the EXR from Smoke and the EXR from fusion in my finder on my desktop, they look exactly the same). So what is Smoke doing with the "foreign" exr on import?I was also playing with the LUT settings. I get a result which is close, but I need to be exact.
When I export a XML from FCP 7 all of my files come over and link but there is no video with my HDV files (1440 x 1080) all of my other files (Canon FX etc) come over fine.
I converted the h.264 files to uncompressed 10bit. Bringing in the footage and XML was fine, but as soon as I resize to PAL (the timeline was changed to PAL, as was the output on the AJA) the picture starts anti aliasing in detail areas. I have processed this with every filter in Smoke with no satisfactory result.
I am having issues for a long time regarding importing XML into smoke 2013. Will try and explain you in breif.
First When we try an import XML into smoke it just doesnt do anything, in the message history box it comes up saying FOUND 0 SOURCES.
Nothing gets imported at all. No footage is imported, nothing is shown in timeline as well.
Second For a different project when the XML does get imported, the videos get imported but then again nothing is coming up in the timeline and in the message history box we get the following error.
XML Validation Failed.
Cannot process unliked media.
we have checked all the import options to make this work, including max up level and the rest but nothing is working.
