Photoshop :: How To Stop Adding Copy To File Names
Feb 6, 2012First off, I don't mind the save as a copy feature. If I have a psd file with layers and smart objects and such, and I Save As > JPG, I don't want the jpg open, I want the psd open. I like how PS does that behavior, but I don't like how that jpg gets " copy" added to it's file name. Yes it's easy to remove, but I'm using a batch action on over 300 pictures, I don't feel like renaming 300 jpg's. Yes it's supposed to be a safety net, but I basically never work from jpg's as original's, and if for some reason I do, I set them as read only and copy the files off to a safe location, so I don't need it.
I know it's possible because my old school's computers with Photoshop CS5 never saved jpg's with copy in the file name. So, how do I stop PS CS5 from adding copy to my file names? Because I need Photoshop to not add copy to my file names on my work computer.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: File Dates Shown Incorrectly In Open File Dialog Box
Apr 24, 2013I'm using Autocad Civil3D 2011, Version 3. Just yesterday I noticed that the file date shown in Autocad's open file dialog box shows an earlier time than Windows Explorer, which shows the file date and time correctly. When I enter the "time" command on the autocad command line, the correct time is shown for the "last updated" time.
For example:
The Autocad open file dialog box shows the file having a time/date of 4/23/2013 3:54 PM
Windows Explorer shows the file having a time/date of 4/23/2013 4:10 PM
"TIME" command at autocad prompt returns the following:
Current time: Wednesday, April 24, 2013 3:55:35:454 PM
Times for this drawing:
Created: Thursday, March 27, 2008 5:49:57:104 PM
Last updated: Tuesday, April 23, 2013 4:10:56:299 PM

I rebooted and restarted autocad, and resaved my file with the same results (although with different times-but again the autocad open file dialog box showed an incorrect, earlier time). I have never had this problem before, and it is driving me crazy as I usually sort my files by date to assure that I am working with the latest file.

I'm an old autolisped making the jump to VBA and I have seen and read various solutons for the equivalent getfiled autolisp function but I never had much luck with them. Lightroom :: Correcting Imported File Names (way To Bulk Rename Back To Original File Names)
Dec 18, 2011I accidentally included a file rename when I just imported a batch of several hundred pictures. I violated a rule that I teach my own Lightroom students, and that is to look carefully at the import panel choices before proceeding.
How can I correct this so that the files are named as they originally were? I know how to easily fix the filenames in Windows (using a tool called BulkRename, for example), but then I'd have to "find" each image one-by-one and correctly point to the renamed version. I tried selecting all the images and then using F2 to rename, but none of the templates allow deleting a portion of the filename.
P.S. Here is an example of what I mean:
ON CARD:
IMG_0001.NEF
...
IMG_0300.NEF
WHAT I RENAMED TO ACCIDENTALLY:
IMG_0001 {shot by John Doe}.NEF

AutoCAD LT :: Open File Dialog Box Is Blank
Jan 25, 2012I have a user with AutoCAD LT 2007 SP2. Whenever he clicks on File > Open... the drop-down list to browse to another directory is blank. It doesn't show any local or network drives. He can open files just fine from Windows Explorer.

My co-worker told me to type CMDDIA and change it to 1. But that didn't work for my error. How to fix my AutoCAD issue. Jan 11, 2013In AutoCAD 2012 when the File Open Dialog Box is displayed there is a drop down option list called Views and the option at the bottom is Preview. That's the same in both the English and German versions of AutoCAD, other than in German its called Vorschau. When the option is ticked (checked) a preview is displayed, if it is not ticked then no preview is displayed.
In AutoCAD 2013 this option for Preview does not exist because the Preview is always there.
OK, how do you see this in your version of AutoCAD 2013. Who sees the preview and who not?
Or, is there a setting somewhere that controls the visibility of the preview. I don't know, but I would like to know.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Open File Dialog Box Disappeared
May 16, 2012I'm using Autocad 2013, and the Open File Dialog Box has disappeared. Every time I try to open a drawing, it defaults to the command line. I have the same error with Image Attach. It's only my user. Other Users on the computer do not have this issue. Settings to change it.

Aug 16, 2012I would like to see consistent behaviour between dialogs. For me, probably the dialog that I use the most is the File >Open dialog. When I do File>Open and browse to a file, then close the file. The next time I do a File>Open, I am taken to the previous path, but the previous file is not highlighted/selected. So, I have to grab the scroll bar and pull it down to get to the file.
Now when I do a File>Open from Vault, it goes to and selects the previously opened file. This is also how Autocad works. Would be nice if Inventor worked the same way.
AutoCAD 2013 :: Thumbnail Preview Not Showing Up In File Open Dialog Box
Aug 14, 2013When I click on File>Open The dialog box no longer has a thumnail preview. Only a small grey box hovering on the right that says "Initial View" with a check box. I have attached a snapshot of my Autocad File> open dialog box so you can see what I'm getting on my end.
If I browse for files in windows explorer and change view option to thumbnail I can see the thumbnails just fine.
I've tried everything but I cannot get back my File> Open thumbnail preview.
In Tools> Options I have the thumbnail preview settings all set to save thumbnail preview image. Nothing has changed that I know if for the thumbnail preview to go away.
It's really slowing me down not being able to have thumbnail preview in the file> open dialog box.

Mar 21, 2013I have a problem with previewing of new files I made in INV2013. Old files are OK. I can not find the cause...I also found, that some new files are correct and other incorrect, all made in INV 2013.
There are two types of error:
1) when I pick the file I want to open, in left lower corner - thumbnail window- is displayed text:"preview not available"
2) when I pick the file I want to open, the left lower corner - thumbnail window- is black
In iProperties panel I have checked "Save preview picture"

May 19, 2009Under my install of Vista Enterprise on an AD network, I'm am not getting the "computer" option to access local and network drives when I select "File/Open". All I get is the redirected "home" directory for that user. True for all Adobe applications (have the latest Creative Suite 4). Other Windows apps using Windows file/open dialog box can get to the network. Tech support said I should have an option to select the OS dialog box, but I do not see that on my install.

Jun 15, 2011since some weeks i have a real curious bug in 3dsmax.With less words: Everytime i want to open a File Dialog Window in 3dsmax it crashes directly after the mouse click without any warning. It is like something has killed my 3dsmax.exe process.In other words: I can't work anymore. Some examples for the File window are:
File --> Open
File --> Save as
MAXScript --> Run Script
and so on...
The only way i can save my MaxFile is to overwrite my existing File by pressing "CTRL+S"..Another curious thing is, that it seems to happen with random max files. If i work on a new scene everything is perfect, but after a week this problem happens with this scene too.First i thought that this problem occurs only on my computer, but yesterday another worker of our company had the same issue on a max file, which i have never seen before.Both of us haven't installed any software the last weeks.Another idea was, that we have a new windows hotfix, which occurs this issue, but all of our other machines are up to date too.

Photoshop :: CS6 File Open Dialog Missing Preview
Jun 1, 2012Why did Adobe remove the file preview area from the File > Open dialog box? I like having all my file requests showing Details mode so I need the Preview window when I am navigating, browsing and opening files.
Illustrator CS6 still has a Preview window, granted it only works on AI files, it should be able to preview PDFs and EPS files correctly, let alone all raster formats.

May 3, 2010I am just trying to save a PDF from my illustrator file. However, when I go to Save as, and select PDF, no dialog box opens to allow me to set how I want the file outputted. IF I just hit enter, the file does save.. its just like the Dialog box is hidden or not appearing. The reason I need the dialog box is because I need to add bleeds to the PDF and my default save doesn't do that.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Design Copy - Unable To Change Component Names?
Aug 11, 2011I'm finally wrapping up work on an iLogic Configurator project and have started to brainstorm the best workflow to get this "Smart Assembly" into the design group's hands. I had been anxiously awaiting the new "iLogic Design Copy" feature in IV2012, but just recently learned that users are unable to effectively rename any components with this command.
Is this really true? If we can add prefixes or suffixes, what's stopping us from changing the entire filename? We haven't upgraded to 2012 yet, but it seems like this may be a silly and unjustifiable restriction to a command that would otherwise save our designers hours of "file-management" (ie, manually renaming parts in Explorer, component replace in assy's, replace references in idw's, etc) each week.
Long story short, it seems that every workflow I've come across has had some sort of silly limitation that makes it undesireable for my application:
My top-level assembly contains all of the rules, and changes parameter values in the referenced skeletal parts. It also swaps standard parts for other standard parts as needed.I need access to rename ALL files (idw's, top-level assembly, subassemblies, and base components) while still maintaining/updating all internal hyperlinks between them.iLogic rules must be carried over to the new copied components (the existing "Copy Assembly" command strips the assembly of all rules). In light of the iLogic Design Copy's apparent shortcomings, any better workflow?

Illustrator :: Save Copy Of Open AI File As PDF With Personal Preset
Aug 17, 2012I am currently working on the schematics of a quite big document and I am using Illustrator. I work on the .ai version of the figures but I want to save them in a very quick way as pdf files with personal setting (super compression, no preview...). What I am doing now is that I have my .ai file open, and when I want to save a pdf version of it I go to "File" then "Save a copy" then "Type: pdf" and I enter a name, I click on "Save" and a window pops up with some options. Here, I select a personal preset and then click on "Save pdf" and I am happy with the final saved pdf.
The thing is that it is a quite long process when you have to do it several times per figure. I tried to automatized it through a script (or action) but the available options are quite limited (it is hard to make Illustrator understand that if the current file is myfig.ai, I want a myfig.pdf and that I want to save it in the working folder). Under "File", I also tried the "SaveDocsAsPdf" script but once again, I have to select the folder where I want to save the figure and so on. Maybe I missed something. Any efficient way to save my figures as pdf by clicking a the F9 key (for instance).
Illustrator :: Copy Parts Of Layers From One AI Doc Into New One With Same Layer Names?
Sep 30, 2013How do I copy PARTS of layers containing many objects from one CS5 AI (v.15.0.2) doc into a new CS5 AI doc and keep/create the same layer names?
To start with, I have one fairly complex AI document with 100 layers, with several hundred items in each layer. For example, one layer named "Stars" contains 400 separate stars (not grouped), another layer named "Crosses" contains 300 separate crosses, and a 3rd layer named "Text" contains 200 separate words (not outlined).
If I select, by marqueeing a section of the image/artboard, some (but not all) of the individual items contained in the several layers, then paste that selection into a new CS5 AI doc, I cannot get them to create new layers of the same name. Instead they go into one general layer (e.g. "Layer 101") as a jumble of discrete, but unorganized objects (no layers or sublayers). In other words, I have lost the 3 main layers from which I selected a bunch of objects.
Checking "Paste Remembers Layers" has no effect on this result. In fact "Paste Remembers Layers" does not remember layers at all. Only if I select ALL the items in the several layers will it paste those layers by those names into the new doc (or create new layers of the same names).
Of course it is a COLOSSAL waste of time copying the ENTIRE document, then pasting the WHOLE thing into the new doc (with layers retained), then deleting the parts I DON'T need.
