AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Passing String As Variable?

Jul 9, 2013

I would like to use a string as a variable if this is possible. I've got:

new-pl-lay (as a variable that holds layer name "UGL_PL_NEW")

first-cable (as a string that holds "new-pl-lay")

I'd like set the current layer to "UGL_PL_NEW" by using the first-cable string.

Something like:

(command "_.layer" "m" (read first-cable) "")

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Passing Variables To Command Line?

Aug 14, 2012

Writing a routine that stores a file name as a string in variable FILE.I check the variable and it returns a nice quoted string: "filename-123.dwg"

I would like AutoCAD to open the file w/out user input. With FILEDIA set to 0, I've tried passing the variable to the command line:

(command "open" FILE)

or in a script as:

open

(FILE)
...

or,

open

!FILE
...

I get the same error. The string dumps to the command line and I get 'Unknown command "DWG" .'

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Passing A Point To Zoom Not Working?

Jul 25, 2012

The good news is that, if I were righting a routine that locks up AutoCAD, I'm finished.  The bad news is that I'm not.

The code below is the portion of a routine where I have the user select 2 points and then pass those points to the Zoom command and the M2P osnap.  The problem is that, when the Mid Between 2 Points osnap tries to use the first point, it returnns an "Invalid point" message, enters a loop and locks ACAD.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Find Offset Origin Of Layout

May 8, 2013

I want to know the correct way to find the offset origin of a layout in an AutoCAD drawing.  Let say I have a drawing that has many items on it.  And I create a layout showing just the items in the lower right corner of the drawing.  I want to know the offset origin of this layout relative to the Model space.

I came across some LISP commands that are supposed to do just that:

(vl-load-com)(setq activelayout (vlax-get (vla-Get-ActiveDocument (vlax-Get-Acad-Object)) 'ActiveLayout ))(setq activeplotorig (vlax-get activelayout 'PlotOrigin))

Unfortunately, the commands don't seem to work because it always returns (0.0 0.0).  That cannot be right.

I think I could do this using brute force, but would prefer a mathematical solution.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Polyline Offset Trim And Erase?

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Up-to-date Offset Command - Line Prompts

Jun 7, 2012

I posted a version of the Offset command that lets you Undo individual Offsets and change the offset distance/Through option, without getting out of the command, at Cadalyst CAD Tips: URL....

It's an upgraded version of an earlier concept by Gopal Ramesh.  It's been downloaded almost three times every day since it went up, so I guess people expect it will be useful.

But the website's description includes: "this routine does not provide access to the Layer or Erase options of the built-in Offset command."  The reason for that is that I'm working back in 2004, so those options are not present for me to emulate.  [The Undo option in the routine is one that was added in some later version, but is a very useful enhancement for people using older versions, like me.]

I do also have an Offset-to-any-Layer [not just the source's or the current Layer] routine posted there: URL....

And I have a simple little routine to Offset something and Erase the source object.  So I think I have all the "pieces" to include those options that newer versions have, but that I don't.  I would like to combine the functionalities into the Offset-with-running-options routine.  That way, if people want to use it to redefine the Offset command as I have done, in order to get the while-running distance change option, those working in newer versions won't be losing the Erase and Layer options in the process, and those in older versions will be gaining yet more options.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Selecting File Location In Routine

Oct 19, 2011

I wrote this small program to automate plotting a drawing to pdf. Everything work fine except I cannot figure out how to allow it to let me pick where I want the file created and what I want to call it. In this routine, the "" at the 3rd from the end place will just automatically name the file and put it in the parent folder. If I replace the "" with pause, it lets me change the name, but will not let me choose the location.

What I'm looking for is for a dialogue box to pop up (explorer style) that will let me choose a location and name the file. This is what happens if you do it "long hand" inside ACAD, how to do it in the code.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Selecting Layer By Using Only Portion Of Its Full Name / Label

Jun 12, 2013

Ultimately I want to delete a bunch of Layers by selecting them using a portion of their name. Is there anything in cad that allows you to specifically select layers using only a portion of the layer name?

Based on AutoCAD Layer Standards: Users label layers with a code; for example: A-ANNO-TEXT

A - Stands for the Architectural Category the layer falls into

ANNO - Stands for Annotation

TEXT - Type of Annotation

I want to use the Layer Delete (-LAYDEL) command to delete all layers that begin with A-ANNO. In the Layer Manager (-LAYER) I am able to select specific layers using a " * " placed before and/or after " A-ANNO " to include all layers with that in its name.

When I write a script however (-LAYDEL); cad will ask me for the layer name, but will not allow me to use the *A-ANNO* to include all layers with that name: A-ANNO-TEXT, A-ANNO-GLAZ, A-ANNO-WALL, etc...

Is there anything in cad that allows you to specifically select layers using only a portion of the layer name??? I have to "taylor" drawings that I receive from companies who's layers may vary.

My script is in basic (NON LISP) language:

-LAYDEL
N
A-GENM
N
A-DOOR
N
A-DOOR-FRAM
N
A-DOOR-GLAZ
N
Y
