AutoCAD Map 3D :: Import Data Into Industry Model

Import Data into the Industry Model,
I am supposed to go to the insert tab and run convert to industry modle.
However it does not exist in this tab, I could not get the help file to show be where I could find this command.
Also where is the dataset for this module. I followed the link from the help file to [URL].... but could not see any data set for this module

I used the industry model template for the North American electric grid, thinking it would link the data I saw on the tutorials. I am pretty sure that I need to find industry models for the electric grid now that I can't seem to get the conductors to show up on my map. Is that right? where I can find an industry model of the electric grid around Lake Michigan?
If I cannot find an industry model (a database?), can I just switch workspace to "Planning and Analysis" and import the models I have (images, West side of lake only) and attempt to manipulate those (while keeping everything I have)?
I have lost much work repeatedly upon saving. Do I always have to "check in" my data before saving?
Is there an easier way to match-up roster images (that aren't GEOTiffs) to shape files (that have a coordinate system) rather than using "scale," "rotate" and "move"? I didn't have luck with the "pick" option and monkeying around with manual manipulation didn't match up well. Perhaps there is a way to manipulate points on an image?

Using Storm and Sanitary Analysis from a wastewater industry model? I have been looking into that but have run into a problem regarding units (using metric units). When importing data from wastewater industry model into SSA it assumes that pipe dimensions are given in meters and subbasins area are given in ha. My data is in mm and sqr.m.
Can I define what units to use when importing this data??
If I import GIS data (shp files) I can define what units the data is in.
Using 2013 versions of Map and SSA.

I recently installed Autocad Map 3d 2014, 64 bits, on a windows 7 machine. I set up an enterprise model in a SQL server 2008 R2 database, created a custom industry model with one feature class, converted a SHP to my custom industry model. All 80 features were converted.
The problem is when I'm trying to call Generate Graphic function. Autocad Map crashes and I get this error in the error log:
An item with the same key has already been added.

When connecting to an Industry Model one can use the Convert to Industry Model dialog. Here you can select the source you want to map. This can be an FDO connection, a file (SDF, SSQLite, DWG).If you choose DWG, 4 options can be used as input/source:
AutoCAD Entities,
Layers
Object data
Block Names
However, the MAP 3D feature classes (from Classification) are not listed here, nor can I find (Hoping I am overlooking it) a way of converting mapping them to the IM. Seems the only option is to redo the classification "defintion" effort again.
If this is the case, I am getting more the impression that Map3D is becomming a bunch of tools rather then a consistent framework supporting a step by step path from CAD to GIS to Industry Model type it is being marketed.

how to import point data that has Map Object Data also attached to it? "import it by attaching to a data source".
Example: I have a bunch of manholes. Each MH has X,Y,Z, but also Type, Invert Elevs., Pipe Sizes, Pipe Materials, Pipe Directions, Structure Type/Material, etc. etc. etc. I may have point data representing MH's, airport runway ends, trees, anything you can imagine, with all kinds of data imaginable.
I want to import this data directly into Autocad/Civil 3D as either Autocad points, lines, or closed polylines (I also have utility lines, parking lots, etc.- all with data associated with it), all with the data attached as object data. I know that anything more complex than points might be hard to explain here, so I am hoping at least for a solution on how to import points - I have 99,999 MH's and obviously I don't want to have to type all that data in one by one.
I basically suck at using sql server. I can get around using the Map workspace and the different tabs. I have never used FDO, and I am not even sure what it is.
I fooled it today by creating 99,999 Autocad points at the correct XYZ, attaching the correct object data to them, then exporting as a shp file. I went into the shp_name.dbf file and edited it to add the data I wanted by cutting & pasting from Excel. then I re-imported the shp file. but, this is a workaround at best.
Surely Map can import objects and their associated data fields, all populated with valid data! all I need is to know how to do it. I mean, if this is not something I can do directly using Map commands should I take the money I earned by surveying 99,999 MH's with my GIS data collector that allows me to assign 101data fields to each object I survey, and buy something better?

I am a land surveyor using AutoCAD 2012. Just new to 2012 version, previously used 2005 version.
My question is:
Is it possible to (and how do I) create a 3D model of a ground surface from field survey data which has been collected. The data i have is currently in Leica GSI format, and has x, y and z coordinates. I can easily transfer this into a .csv file i necessary.

I have complete structural data on mature redwood trees that I have been able to get into AutoCad for visualization and error correction purposes. The results are amazing. The orbit command allows me to fly all around the tree and see it from many angles, which allows me to spot errors in the data. The trees are modeled as large collections of cones and conic frusta. Essentially all I use is the cone command, and change the layers if I am drawing the trunk, side trunks and/or branches. I have been able to do this with a script.
My dilemma: Every conic section in the original data has a unique name. When I find a structural error visually it is very hard to determine where the error is in the original data. It would be great if I could name each object (conic frusta) with its corresponding name form the original data, with the script. I could then track down the errors more easily.
A few questions:
What is the best approach? It seems that creating a block for each conic frusta would work (some trees have over 600 conic sections), but I haven't been able to automate this with scripts.
When testing the exact structure that would be needed in a script I encounter the following problems: When I create a block from a selected conic section from the command line with "-block" the resulting block disappears and I have to insert it later. This seemed fine until I tried running a script. The script created a block with the right name but nothing was in it when I opened it in the block editor. If I use "block" it does exactly what I want it to, but "block" doesn't work with a script because it uses the graphical version of the command.

I am using AutoCAD 2012 and would like to know whether you can create a single iges file of data that exists in both model space and layout space within the same dwg file. I have only been successful in creating iges files of either model data or layout data but not both together (unlike creating a dxf file which converts all data within the dwg file).

What is the industry standard regarding horizontal vs. vertical scale? More specifically, should the exaggerated vertical scale be proportional to the horizontal scale?
For example, if I have a drawing that has a horizontal scale of 1" = 100', should my vertical scale be 1" = 10'? Or if my horizontal scale is 1" = 30', should my vertical scale be 1" = 3'? Obviously, we have the ability to make the vertical scale anything we want but what is there a recognized industry standard that correlates the horizontal scale to the vertical scale?

I am trying to find a way to import a laser scanned mesh or point cloud file into Inventor (2013) such that I can use it to make a parametric representation of the form. The import format can be STL, OBJ, VRML, XYZ or PLY. I have tried the Mesh Enabler from Autodesk Labs but the files I am looking to work-on are bigger than the enabler can cope with and my system slows right down or locks-up.
I know bespoke reverse engineering software is the ideal way to go but I was hoping there was a way to model over a mesh to represent its form to create a placeholder in a parametric assembly. I'm not looking for accuracy, just a surface or solid output that can be constrained to native inventor parts. If I could get the files to STEP or IGES someway that would be enough.

I want to import a csv file into map3D and set the layers to which the blocks with attributes are inserted on. Using
Click Home tab > Data panel > Import From Files > mapimport.
Problem is, when I do this, I do not get the dialog that the help file says I should, like a place to define an insert layer or schema. All I get is the plain dialog that asks for formatting (file format such as autodesk up loadable file), Z unit, Coordinate system, and create block.
I also want to export the attribute data into a survey point file.

I am trying to import XY data into Matlab from an Autocad 10 DXF export ASCII file. This data is from a flat drawing (no Z dimension.) When I import the lines, polyline, and hatches, some of the data has a different coordinates system than the others, and possibly a different scaling.
Are there some DXF attributes I should check to find the appropriate reference points and scaling for each entity type, or does this need to be discovered in the native Autocad 10 DWG file?”

We are using SSM, and it is getting quite annoying right clicking each sheet to input the info for each sheet, as not each sheet has the same info. Is there not a way to import the data from a spreadsheet, so you can fill out all the data in a spreadsheet how you want it, then import it into the SSM?

I have collected point data for the positions of trees using PocketGIS software. The software produces a csv. file with the Northings and eastings of each point surveyed to which are attached a number of other attributes (e.g. tree tag number, height, species etc.).
Is it possible to import and plot these points directly into AutoCAD?
Can some or all of the attributes be included (i.e. it would be very useful if the positions could be plotted together with the tag number)?

I'm using Map 3D 2012 with Oracle 11g. I created an enterprise project with an industry model with water and wastewater modules. After this i created my feature classes and defined the utility model linking the geometry feature class to the attribute ones (ex: WA_POINT to WA_ARMATURE, WA_VALVE, WA_HYDRANT etc.).
At this moment i have to import a large amount of data from *.shp or *.sdf files, but theese files contain geometric and attribute data together.
How can i import the geometry from the shp or sdf file to the geometry feature class (ex: WA_POINT) and the attributes to the attribute feature class (ex: WA_VALVE), while creating the reference between the geometry and attribute feature classes?
I tried bulk-copying the geometry, but it doesn't create the coresponding attribute feature.
