AutoCAD Inventor :: IAssemblies - Assembly Hole Features Not Updating?

Dec 17, 2013

I have made an iAssembly with a main body and flanges attached to the body.

Assembly feature holes have been created act on the main body, and these holes are relative to the position of the flange.

When I change the factory member - the position of the flange changes, but the holes stay in the last location and so the model is wrong.

The only way to overcome this error, is if I go to the Manage tab and manually select 'Rebuild All'.

I need this to work automatically as drawings are generated wrong when changing model state.

My intention is that this will be used in an iLogic routine, linked to an external sales package.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Distinguish Hole Features From Other Circles In Drawing / Add Centermarks

Sep 16, 2012

I'm attempting to use VBA to put center marks on each hole in my drawing. So far I have the following

Dim oIntent As GeometryIntent Dim oCenterOfPart As Centermark
'Add center marks to base view For Each oCurve In oBaseView.DrawingCurves '
<- need to identify Hole Features If Not oCurve.CenterPoint Is Nothing Then
If oCurve.CurveType = kCircleCurve Then 'CurveTypeEnum

[Code] .......

oBaseView is the DrawingView object representing the base view the code just placed. I also used VBA to place the projected views oTopView and oRightView. I want to add center marks to each hole when viewed from the end (as circles) and add centerlines when viewed from the top or side (as hidden lines).

I will be iterating through several models representing various handhold styles. The feet can be in many orientations, 99% of them are paralel to one of the origin planes (XY,YZ, or XZ).

This is what my code generates: (The centermarks that are selected are the ones I don't want the code to generate).  This is what I WANT the code to generate:

1) How do I distinguish whether a circle curve originated because of a hole or because of another cilindrical feature?

2) How to I identify the corresponding hidden lines in the other views so I can add a center line?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Hole Note Not Updating In Drawings

Sep 27, 2012

I create a hole feature in part and use Hole and Thread function in drawing view. All info displayed correctly, but if the model changes - note does not! the only way to get the new thread/hole designation is by using the Hole and Thread function again.

see print screen attached - I kept changing the model and using Hole and Thread tool couple of times. They all point to the same hole but look at the results..

Reboot does not work...

AutoCAD Inventor :: Suppress Assembly Features In Drawing?

Mar 8, 2005

Is it possible to suppress an assembly feature in a drawing view?We make some components in an assembly oversized and then do a final machine step after welding or brazing. We show the completed assembly in the drawing but would like to see the assembly prior to machining in some views. If I suppress the machining features in the model it affects all views. Can we suppress the features in just one view?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Accessing Features From A Part In An Assembly

Aug 22, 2012

I'm crating a macro wich would allow me to select multiple parts in an assembly and then calculate the length of each part. The parts are tubes wich are made of a sinlge sweep.

I started from the example truesweeplength, and built from there.

Now my problem is accessing the sweepfeature from the assembly.

In the part enviroment i use this:

Dim oDoc As PartDocument
Dim oDef As PartComponentDefinition
Dim osweepcount As Long
Set oDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument
Set oDef = oDoc.ComponentDefinition
osweepcount = oDef.Features.SweepFeatures.Count

The sweepcount is simply to check how many sweep features are in the part.

This works fine in part level. Now from assembly level I first create an obecjtcollection from all the parts I selected

Set oOccurrences = ThisApplication.TransientObjects.CreateObjectCollection

Then I try to acces the first occurence

oDoc.SelectSet.Item(1)

But then I'm stuck. I cant find the way to acess the features of the selected part.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Insert Threads Into Hole At Assembly Level

Jan 11, 2013

I have an assembly that is made up of 3 unique parts ( 5 parts total). These parts and there features are to be laser cut, then assembled and welded along the outer perimeter in the small chamfer. I have designed the parts to have 5/16 holes, which will be later tapped to 3/8"-16 UNC after assembly.

Once these parts are assembled, I don't understand how I can change the holes to reflect this. Meaning I want the parts to be pre-drilled(laser cut) with 5/16 holes, but I want the assembly to then have 3/8-16UNC holes.

The hole command will not let me select the existing hole features in the assembly and add threads. What is the consequence of inserting a 'new' hole with 3/8-16UNC threads over the existing 5/16" holes in the assembly?

Is my workflow incorrect? should I have the parts modeled with the tapped holes and just make a note on the drawing to not tap these holes until assembly? how does that affect the laser cutting?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Drawing Not Updating To Assembly Changes

Mar 4, 2011

I have a drawing of an assembly with approx. 15 parts.  I dimensioned and notated everything on the drawing as I usually would, and everything seemed fine.  I have now gone back to that assembly a while later to adjust the position of some of the parts.  When I open the drawing, however, these changes do not show up in the drawing environment.  All of the parts are still in their original positions, even though in the assembly they are in new locations.

I've checked and it seems that the drawing views are referencing the correct assembly model.  I tried deleting and replacing the dimensions, but that does not change dimension value to be correct.  I also checked to make sure the "Defer update" box in the Options window is not selected.

If I place a new base view of the same assembly in the same drawing, it shows up with the new locations, but the original base view will not update.

I really would prefer not to delete the entire drawing and start over.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Geometry Not Updating After Replacing A Component In Assembly

Apr 29, 2013

I have geometry not updating after replacing a component in an assembly.

I have drawn part A and in the assembly environment I have projected cut edges on a XY Plane in a 2D Sketch.

After replacing component A in the assembly with part B (not identical but very close) i was expecting the projected geometry to update. But it doesn't. The "local update" button is greyed out in assembly mode. also the Rebuild command does not seem to update the projected geometry.

I can see the new 3d shape and the old projected geometry. How to get the projected geometry to update?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Custom IProperties Not Updating In Drawing When Update Assembly Model?

Nov 19, 2012

I'm using Inventor 2011 and when I go to change parameters using iLogic in an assembly model, (sometimes it is a component suppression, other times it is an iPart component change) it won't update the associated drawing file. I need to go into the BOM on the drawing and renumber the balloons, or change something else in order for the custom iProperties to update in the drawing template. If I just change the iPart component, then the BOM doesn't need to update making the renumbering of balloons redundant.

I'm using iLogic to update all of the iProperties and component references, then reattach balloons. What I would like to do is automatically update the custom iProperties drawing template fields, and renumber the drawing BOM.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Hole Table Formatting - Different Text Depending On The Type Of Hole

Nov 6, 2012

I've got a template with a set of Object defaults for an Inch drawing and a set for a Metric drawing.  I've just noticed that within my metric set, if I insert a hole table with tapped holes, the font on the tapped holes doesn't match the other hole types.  I'm searched around, but all the settings for the hole table style reference the same text style.  (Please see the attached image.)

So is there a way to set a certain hole type to have a certain font or size within a hole table?  Because if there is, I'd obviously like to remove it.....  But I can't seem to figure out where the issue is.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Can't Select Hole Edges When Creating Hole Table

Nov 19, 2012

I have had this problem intermittently for a few weeks since going to Inventor 2013 SP1.1.  I have a part within an assembly and that part has holes created in it before assembling it with other parts.  Now when I try and create a hole table in a drawing of the assembly I cannot select hole edges and the hole table is blank when trying to create it automatically from view selection.  I originally thought it may be an alignment issue but I have since aligned everything correctly and it still persists.  I can create the hole table if I import in just the part into the drawing but it will not allow me to create the table on the whole assembly.

I can also create the hole table if I use "centred pattern" and create cross hairs on all of the holes however it does not give me correct annotations for the holes as shown in attachment and I can manually change the annotations but seriously this should not be required.  As shown in the screen shot it reads as A1 down to K1 instead of A1 to A10. .
