AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Create LOD With Hole Feature Suppress At Assembly Level

Sep 3, 2013

In order to reflect production process, I have to create holes on the bent pipe at assembly level after 2 bent pipes are welded to the straight pipe. Now when I suppress holes, it does not suppress only at LOD or view rep but throught the whole assembly.

Is it possible to suppress features such as hole using LOD or view rep, which are made at the assembly level? or I have to use another method? See below in highlighted.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IAssemblies - Assembly Hole Features Not Updating?

Dec 17, 2013

I have made an iAssembly with a main body and flanges attached to the body.

Assembly feature holes have been created act on the main body, and these holes are relative to the position of the flange.

When I change the factory member - the position of the flange changes, but the holes stay in the last location and so the model is wrong.

The only way to overcome this error, is if I go to the Manage tab and manually select 'Rebuild All'.

I need this to work automatically as drawings are generated wrong when changing model state.

My intention is that this will be used in an iLogic routine, linked to an external sales package.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Insert Threads Into Hole At Assembly Level

Jan 11, 2013

I have an assembly that is made up of 3 unique parts ( 5 parts total). These parts and there features are to be laser cut, then assembled and welded along the outer perimeter in the small chamfer. I have designed the parts to have 5/16 holes, which will be later tapped to 3/8"-16 UNC after assembly.

Once these parts are assembled, I don't understand how I can change the holes to reflect this. Meaning I want the parts to be pre-drilled(laser cut) with 5/16 holes, but I want the assembly to then have 3/8-16UNC holes.

The hole command will not let me select the existing hole features in the assembly and add threads. What is the consequence of inserting a 'new' hole with 3/8-16UNC threads over the existing 5/16" holes in the assembly?

Is my workflow incorrect? should I have the parts modeled with the tapped holes and just make a note on the drawing to not tap these holes until assembly? how does that affect the laser cutting?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create A Hole Table For A Part

Mar 8, 2013

I need to create a hole table for a part.  I would like the origin to be at the center of the part.  Problem is there is not a round hole at that location.  Attached is a similar part.  The one that I am doing is much larger and has many more holes... this is just an example.

How can I pick this as the origin of my hole table?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Hole Table Formatting - Different Text Depending On The Type Of Hole

Nov 6, 2012

I've got a template with a set of Object defaults for an Inch drawing and a set for a Metric drawing.  I've just noticed that within my metric set, if I insert a hole table with tapped holes, the font on the tapped holes doesn't match the other hole types.  I'm searched around, but all the settings for the hole table style reference the same text style.  (Please see the attached image.)

So is there a way to set a certain hole type to have a certain font or size within a hole table?  Because if there is, I'd obviously like to remove it.....  But I can't seem to figure out where the issue is.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Can't Select Hole Edges When Creating Hole Table

Nov 19, 2012

I have had this problem intermittently for a few weeks since going to Inventor 2013 SP1.1.  I have a part within an assembly and that part has holes created in it before assembling it with other parts.  Now when I try and create a hole table in a drawing of the assembly I cannot select hole edges and the hole table is blank when trying to create it automatically from view selection.  I originally thought it may be an alignment issue but I have since aligned everything correctly and it still persists.  I can create the hole table if I import in just the part into the drawing but it will not allow me to create the table on the whole assembly.

I can also create the hole table if I use "centred pattern" and create cross hairs on all of the holes however it does not give me correct annotations for the holes as shown in attachment and I can manually change the annotations but seriously this should not be required.  As shown in the screen shot it reads as A1 down to K1 instead of A1 to A10. .

When creating a new part in an assembly and I select a face of an existing component, how does Inventor determine the orientation and origin of that new part?   I understand how Inventor works when I select the plane/origin of a part or pick out in space in the assembly. But the placement based on the face of an existing component seems random..

I normally do not like creating parts inside of an assembly but I was trying some new workflows.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create An Assembly With Representation

Oct 20, 2011

I am trying to create an assembly with different representation. let me take a small example and explain. I am trying to create an assembly with say 2part. 1. A circular base plate of 6in dia (An assembly by itself in my case). 2. A plate on top of that say 4in,3in, 4,5in.

in one representation I want to have the base plate and 4in plate on top with say 0.2in holes going all the way through on 1in bore circle.

In another representation I want to use the same base plate with 3in plate on top with 0.2 in holes on 1.5in bore circle. When I am creating an extrusion in one representation view it is still showing on the other representation too.

I want to know if there is a way to turn off the feature (representation wise) so that when i turn on the 4in plate i can see the 4in holes and when i turn on 3in plate i can see the 3in holes.

I don't want to have multiple ipts for the base plate as i am dealing with an assembly for the base plate. the only difference is the locations of the holes for different top plate. I want to create just one top level assembly.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Using Assembly To Create A Part

Nov 3, 2013

I'm trying to design a linear bearing that is composed of a billet of material to which six ball bearings are bolted. I was able to create a part representing the ball bearing from the manufacturer's dimensions. I then modeled a lock washer as a part, then an assembly consisting of a ball bearing and a lock washer. I then created an assembly from that assembly, with six of these ball bearing/lock washer assemblies in the desired orientations.

Now that I have the ball bearings oriented in space the way I need them, I need to model the billet to which they will all mount. I did things in this order because the ball bearings are metric, yet the rest of my design is in imperial units, and it just seemed easier to orient the bearings (which will interface with yet another assembly that I have yet to design) first.

I'd like to create my billet using the assembly as a reference. The assembly will tell me where I need holes in the billet to mount the bearings, where I need to cut out material for clearances, etc. I can't figure out how (or if) I can import my assembly into my part file, or what other tools are available to accomplish this task.

I'm attempting to model something similar to this. I've got the six bearings oriented in space, now I need to make the block to which they mount.

Revit :: How To Create Slightly Angled Walls

Dec 10, 2007

For very slight angles, Revit 2008 seems to INSIST that all walls be precisely orthographic in plan. I need to make some walls that are ever so alightly angled away from the cartesian (90 degree) grid. This is maybe 1/2" to 1" over 12' or so. It's a very small angle and Revit will not allow me to grab the corner and move just that end to the underlying plan that I imported. Lines, reference lines, reference planes all seem to follow this maddening restriction. I am working off of a survey that shows the existing building as non-orthographic so I must follow it. .

Also I have tried creating the walls by picking the angle on the underlying plan, but as soon as I do a wall cleanup, it snaps the wall back to the cartesian 90 dree grid system and the slight angle is gone..Is there something simple like the F8 command in ADT/AutoCAD to turn off the damned ortho constraint???

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create Exploded View Of Assembly

I need to create an exploded view of an assembly to show how it's supposed to be put together.  "Hey, why not use the slick presentation feature in Inventor?  I've already got the model!"  It's not working out to be that slick.

Outlined in red, is the "wrong" trail that Inventor put in by default.  I added the highlighted trail, which is what I want and reflects how things actually go together.  How do I get rid of the one I don't want?  Hide turns off both of them.  Delete deletes the tweak.  All I've found was a workaround where I hide the line in the drawing.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create Assembly That Can Be Adjusted For Each Instance?

Jul 29, 2013

I want to create some modules for a platform deck. The modules are made of C5x6.7 channels in one direction, L2x2x3/16 angle stiffeners in the other direction, and 3/16" deck plate on top.

My "drivable" parameters will be length and width.

The modules will all be different sizes, so I need to be able to have every instance of the assembly be different.

The workflow I was attempting to do before I got stuck was this:

1. Create a skeleton part (just a sketch) with Length and Width parameters.

2. Insert in an assembly and use frame generator to build the structural shapes (channels and angles)

3. Insert another part (the 3/16" plate) that can reference the length and width and adjust to be the correct module size.

Is there a way to make parts in an assembly all follow the same parameters? More importantly, can each instance of this assembly show up differently and be adjustable when I place these modules in my main assembly?

I don't know much about iParts - but it looks like an iPart lets you choose from predefined dimensions - I want something that I can custom input any size I need.
