AutoCAD Inventor :: Turning Off Part And Subassembly Section Participation In Nested Views
Dec 15, 2011
I can't control the section participation of individual parts or subasy in a IDW view. I want to have some parts & subs sectioned in the view & others not sectioned. They seem to follow whatever the IAM is set for. Note that I do not want to control the section participation in each Model from Documentation/Model/Particiapation becasue it will screw up other drawings referencing the models. Besides, I tried it & it stil wouldn't work.
The complicated part is that the view can be a cropped or detail view of a section view that is the child of the parent view-(I had to do it this way to get the view I needed).
is it even possible to individually control the sectioning in parts of nested views?
The RMB controls are available to do so but nothing happens, even if I close & open the file again.
Sometimes the RMB menu/Section Participation shows little filled in squares next to Sectioned & None. If I click on either, it becomes a check mark.

Is Section Participation of a component accessible via the API?
It can be controlled locally with respect to a view in a drawing, or via document settings for the file itself ( so it would always be excluded). I'm hoping it's available in either of those two areas of the API.

So I am trying to create section views that detail the correct assembly of two parts.
These parts are welded on top of each other so its important to have clear understanding of how they fit together.
So imagine a pipe bent in the shape of a circle, in the horizontal plane, then holes drilled into the top (vertically) and then another pipe fitting in the holes and being welded together. This is what is happening.
So I am trying to create a section view of one of the holes with the welding information.
When I go to create the section view, I draw a line that would pass through the center of the large horizontal circle (but doesnt) and the center of the hole I am trying to detail and through to the outside of the horizontal pipe.
Now with this line I should get a view of the assembly exactly perpendicular to the line from that point. This is what is called "Aligned" in Inventor and what I was taught as a "Section View". However, this is not the case at all. I get what is called a projected section view.
find a way to get an "Aligned" view of this without sectioning the entire assembly. I just want the small bit necessary to show the relevant information.

I am using Ilogic to control visibility of a subassembly in a subassembly of my main assembly. It works correctly inside of the subassembly just not from the Main Assembly. If I use IsActive instead it works but I can't use this because the dimensions in the associated drawings lose there attachment points using IsActive. I can change my assembly by removing the middle sub assembly but will require writing a lot more code.

Is it possible to copy a section view or detail view from one sheet to another, without having to copy the base view?
If so how?
If not, why?

I am a new user of AutoDesk inventor and have a few questions about saving different views of the drawing. I have a floor plan layout and need to save several different cross section views to see different angles and different parts of the interior. I am familiar with how to do this in programs such as google sketchup but not inventor. I also need to insert text with arrows pointing to different things in the drawing. Is this possible with inventor or does the drawing need to be put into other software such as paint.

wondering if its possible to turn off lines inside of nested blocks.
When we tried to do this inside a heavily layered and blocked drawing, it seemed to make the file unresopnsive, unloadable, and general "autocad freezing" issues. We Reconsitituted the entire file from the ground up and found that by NOT turning off these lines inside of nested blocks (ceteris parabis) the file works fine.
We like to turn these lines off becuase different teams are working on different parts of the drawing and we like to focus on one section by turning the other off. Is this possible? Is there a better way to do this?

im trying to make an template we can use as default template..
now when i make a section view or a detail view of a part, the annotation is placed above the section view..
I would like to have that underneath the view.
I know can drag it down there, but is there a way to have the annotation underneath the view when its created? would save me and the rest who is going to use the template a lot of time..

How you constrain a section view so that is perpendicular to an axis. See "SECTION B" on the attached drawing for an example of what I am attempting. I have created the view but cannot make (constrain) the view perpendicular to the slot that is orientated at 30 degrees from the vertical centre line. I have lined up the view by eye so it looks close but it's obviously it's not accurate.

Working with Inventor 2012: I have a rather large assembly (over 3000 parts) that was worked on by an outside engineering firm and includes several different Levels of Detail & Views under Representations. When they originally Pack 'n Go-ed the whole assembly and related .idw's over to us, all the .idw's seemed to show every view correctly without errors.
However, I've now went into the assembly and made several modifications to the overall master assembly and a few sub-assemblies within it (adding/deleting a few parts, nothing major). Now when I try to open a few of the master assembly .idw files, all the section & detail views have become full model views, losing their "cutaway" views. See the attached before & after pictures.
I've went back in to each .iam and made sure that the level's of detail & Views match the way the file was originally given to us but I can't seem to get the cutaway views back again.

I have a rule in the top assembly to update & want to run this as a final 'clean up' after various rules have run in sub assembly parts.
I have a rule within a part at the end of the line. I want this rule to goto the top assembly & run the 'Update' rule.

Is there a way to customize the fence labels for detail and section views?
I know we can edit the label directly and add/remove text, but is there way to change the appearance of the label as well, with say a sketched symbol or other graphical representation like a balloon or other customized image?

Here is the issue we have found. While sectioning a view of an assembly in idw, the threaded lines of threaded features have a strange behavior depending on the section line used. I have attached a simple example that shows what he have found. Basically, if the section line is straight, threaded features show correctely. Independent of section participation. If the section has segments at different angles, then lines are not appearing.
The first three views have both parts excluded from section participation(Obviously, there isn't any real life need for this, but I did it to just simplify the illustration without adding a bunch extra parts) The base view is the top view or view showing the round shape. For the first example at the bottom, i simply projected the view to the left and made sure "Threaded Features" was selected. Threaded lines show fine.
Second example is the similiar, except the i used a section view instead of the projected view. Both parts are excluded. Section line is straight. Verticle in this example. Doesn't have to vertical as the line is straight.
Next example is similiar to the second, only difference is the section is not straight. You can see the threaded lines do not show. This is the problem we want to solve. How to make the threaded lines display!!!
Last example shows the same section, only this time the component is included in the section participation. And it works.
Any settings to change or a trick to make it work. Otherwise, i think i need to issue a support request with autodesk.

I have lots of section views with some surfaces and pipes. Unfortunately, in a number of section views pipes are not shown in full height because the section view level range is too little. What I am wondering is - is it possible to automatically adjust section level ranges so that they fully include pipe sections? Please see also the image in the attachment.

When i am creating section sheets from multiple section views ,section sheet view port scale changes.I did set it correctly in my template.
For example it changs from 1:150 to 1:150_1
Then in section sheets scetions views are not displaying correctly.
When i change view port scale manually it shows correctly. But it should do to all sheets.
What should I do?
In model spacr multiple section views are showing correctly.

In my section editor my labels show up correctly and in all the locations I want. But then, in my cross section file, I look in my section views and they are completely different. When I try to label more points under the Code Set Styles, they won't even show up on my section views.

I think I just haven't done this in a while and can't find the right setting.
I have existing sections.
I have section views.
I created a corridor.
How do I add the corridor section to my existing cross-section in the section views?
I can view them in the corridor section editor. But I should also be able to add the corridor section to my section views, right?
To plot them, do I NEED to do this through Sheets Sets? I don't have experience with sheet sets yet.
I don't use Civil 3D often enough anymore. Still learning much about the new interface and pulling a design together.

I am trying to create a second base view (using Layout/Create View/Base from model space). The problem is, I need it to be rotated from the original base view. However, when I rotate the part in model space, ALL of my views change.
So I guess my question is, how do I create multiple views of the same part that are seperate from the other base views?

We would like to make the transparency of glass-materials visible in views and section-views by using the "realistic style". During a 3d-view our glass-material looks like transparent. Isn't it possible for REVIT to display the transparency of materials in views ?
The workaround to hide "glass" by using "overriding visibility" is not possible for us because some of our families and project families are using glass-materials inside (Showcases f.e.).

Is there a way to have the lines in drawing views be the same as the part colors instead of black (like MDT used to do)? Not rendered, 2d lines.
Also, when exporting to .dwg part color lines & the parts as blocks would be great. Ok, maybe I'm asking too much.

(in Inventor Pro 2014,64 bit):
I've made an stairs assembly that contains adaptive parts that are all controlled by the assembly parameters.
Here is my assembly and the controlling parameters. The stringers on the side are made with the frame generator and use the "extend" feature to get the appropriate length, as driven by the parameters. The reason I used frame generator is so that I can easily change sizes of the stringers down the road, if needed. I chose to make the parts associative so I could control all of the parameters from within the assembly instead of opening each part separately.
My goal now is to be able to use this assembly (or something similar) as a template to create new sets of stairs, all to be placed in the same main assembly.
I attempted to duplicate all of the parts (append a "2" at the end of each file name and replace components in the new set of stairs with the 2nd version) but ran into problems with the two stringers. I can't figure out what to do to get the Frame00001 and Skeleton00001 to reassociate to Frame00002 and Skeleton00002. So any time I change my slope, the original stairs will end up trying to copy the new stringers instead of keeping the old ones.
how can I make this assembly reference a new frame, and secondly?

I am trying to program the view placement of various parts and have run into a situation where I need to place flat patterns. On the programming side there isn't an issue, but the issue occurs when attempting to select the wanted view orientattion.
Attached you will find 2 screen shots. One of them is from the "Folded Model" (Take note of the View Cube)
The other is from only Pressing the "Go to Flat Pattern" Button and being in "Flat Pattern" viewing mode (Note the Cube)
I need the Flat Pattern View to correspond with the Orientation of the Folded Model.

Lets say I have 2 page drawing set of a damper, page 1 contains the main views and all the related part number ballons.
Page 2 contains fabrication details for the parts, brackets, blades etc.
For the parts I just inserted those into the drawing from their respective part file, allowing me to create the necessary amount of views to capture the needed dimensions for the shop.
When I go to apply a balloon to that part it wants to make it part #1 when it may be part # 7 of the assembly.

I am creating section view with my road project. I successfully created center line alignment, surface, surface profile, sample line and section views on every station I needed on my design.
I want to see "subassembly" (travel lane, curb & gutter, sidewalk, 2:1 slope) on my section view. I can block, insert and copy it to my section my manually, but I know this not the right way to do.
