AutoCAD Inventor :: Template / Link Properties In Virtual Component

Here in some IAM mine, i need to put a % more of some parts, so I decided to use virtual components for that. It worked great, but I'm with 2 doubts to get faster doing that.
1º - Is there a way to link the properties of a virtual component, to an existing part ? Like mass, part number and some Customs too. That would be easier in this case, when I need just put some more parts without change the modeling visual.
2º - Can I use a template to create a virtual component ? I did some searches, but I just found topics from 2005 that it wasn't possible, but with IV 2013 or even 2014 is that possible ? I have here many custom properties that I always have to create again in virtual components.

II need a way to tell if a component occurence is a virtual component.
I'm using a For Each loop to cycle through all of the components in an assembly, and if the component is itself an assembly to set the LOD to "Custom". I'm using the definition document descriptor object for this. It all woks fine until the loop comes across a virtual component which doesn't have a definition document, so I need a way to check if the component is virtual and needs to be skipped.Here's the

I am trying to use iLogic to programatically create virtual components in an assembly. These components will by used as iProperty "buckets" to hold Machine Center specific information to be exported to production planning software. This information is hierarchical in nature and cannot be (conveniently) stored in the assembly iproperties directly.

I have a shrinkwrap part of a conveyor that I want to use in a plant layout. I have it just the way I want it now. However, I want to do a break link on it so I can copy it off to another project workspace. When I do a break link my derive settings change to some funky default and my model gets all messed up. The one that's giving me the biggest problem is the remove parts by size. On my long conveyors its removing my motor, reducer, drive chain guards, support legs, and other miscellanea that I need shown in my layout.

I have recently installed "Autodesk Product Design Suite Premium 2012 English Win 64bit"., and now I would like to create thru "Make Part" feature an assembly in which I am using in the previous version 2011. The feature options are not working.Step to re-create:
1. Manage Tab > Make Part
2. Under "Place part in target assembly" click the Folder button on New File Location
3. A "Component Properties" dialog box will appear. Now, click "YES" or "NO" button, dialog box closes.....

I am looking for a way to link custom harness properties to equal i-properties for an electrical connector, My end result is I would like the Cable and Harness report generator gather "description" but I will not recognized the i-property " description" but if I create a custom harness property "description" it will report that. I would like the custom harness property to equal the i-property of the part, or am I going about this the wrong way?

Is there a way that we can set the view label in the style library to show custom/user Properties?
We have set our iam/ipt templates to have some custom properties which we wish to display in the view label when the view is created however there this no way to add these properties to the label.
I find this a little strange as you can add these user Properties to the parts list in the style library? (I've added some screen caps to show what I am talking about)

I'm trying to customise my drawing templates to keep them up to date and also include accountability.I seem to be having trouble in including the name of the person who has last saved the model, and the date the model was last saved.
Manually including this information isn't ideal as people will forget, and it makes it harder to trace revisions.I can't see anywhere on the iProperties where the 'Last saved by' feature is available, but I thought maybe the information could be pulled from the username from the application options?
The last saved date should be easy, as there is a modified date in the model's iproperties; however, I cannot pull this information.I have used other cad packages in the past and this was never an issue. With all the customisation of Inventor, I thought this would be relatively straight forward.

We are having an issue when we replace a component in Inventor Pro 2012. When we replace a component, the name in the browser does not update to the new component. We've even tried to close and re-open the Inventor assembly and that does not work. We end up manual double clicking the name in the browser and type in the new component name.

I have a client with AutoCAD Map 3D 2011 with an OLE DB Provider for SQL Server Data Source and a dbConnect link template connecting to the database.
Normally, when an object that is linked to the database via the link template is selected, the data from the linked table appears in the properties palette. Recently a change what made to the table (view) that the link template and the Link template no longer appears. The view was restored to its original state, but the link table still is not visible.
If the data source is disconnected via the task pane, the link template reappears (with only the key showing, of course). The data can still be seen via the link template "View Linked Table" context-sensitive menu in the task pane so the link still remains.
I have disconnected, deleted, and rebuilt the data source, but it has not worked and I cannot delete the link template as there are several thousand objects linked via the template.

I am trying to make port rims for pipes that can be swapped in and out of an assembly. However, the ports will all be different sizes and located differently so I need the cut to be part of the port rim component, but affect the entire assembly it is part of. I've been trying to get this to work for the better part of a day now,Here's a picture of what im talking about. I'm running Inventor 2008 by the way.

I have been tasked with finding a way to link data from Oracle and SQL databases with CAD files of rooms in certain buildings. My goal is to be able to select an arbitrary room within a building and be able to access certain information. I don't actually have access to the databases yet, but I would like to know how to do this when I do. My data consists of "human" data such as: name, email, position, sex, etc; as wells as "physical" data such as: square footage of the room, who uses it, computer serial numbers, or what department is in charge of it. Using this data we will cross reference the tables to determine what our needs are.
My AutoCAD skills are good but I've never come across anything like this in the class room. Most of my knowledge is Civil based and more focused on design.

I have an assembly which has a few components suppressed.
My end results is another copy of the assembly (with copies of the all the parts) in another directory
Now i am able to create copies of un-suppressed parts using; (this allows me to SaveAs assembly components which are not suppressed)
DocumentsEnumerator = ThisDoc.Document.AllReferencedDocuments
And save a copy of the assembly using
ThisDoc.Document.SaveAs
I also added the fllowing snippet (which I am not sure what is does), but it does not work for me
Component.SkipDocumentSave = true
When I open the newly created assembly, I still see the suppressed components in the model browser
I want to either;
Skip saving the of the components in the model browser (i.e. the Assembly)
OR
Delete the suppressed parts in the Assembly, so that they do not save altogether

I'm trying to update a template which has custom drawing properties. In AutoCad LT 2012 (and obviously full autocad) there is an UPDATEFIELD command which updates the drawing properties.
This command is not known in my version of AutoCad LT 2008. Is there another command I can use?

I want to set up my drawings so that the title block displays properties from the model. I want to set this up so there will be drawing properties to extract into Vault. So I want to know what other Inventor and Vault users are doing to get model properties into Inventor drawings: Using model properties in the title block and nothing to extract in Vault or Copy model properties so Vault has data to extract.
I want to know what the best in class practice is? What are others doing? I do not want to use iLogic I was out of the box Inventor functionality.

I have a VBA macro that places selected virtual components into an assembly. I can place virtual components with different part numbers into the assembly with no problem. When I try to place the second instance of a virtual component with the same part number I get an error.
For example: If I place a virtual component with the part number C123A456 into an assembly it shows in the tree as C123A456:1 If I try to place C123A456 again it errors at this line.

I can place multiple virtual parts if I append -1, -2, -3 etc to the part number but I would like to let Inventor use the :1, :2, :3 to keep track.

I am using 2012 and am having a problem dimensioning to a virtual sharp.
On the above corner I select the straight edge on top or to the left of the corner. I then right click to bring up the intersect option but the only options I get are one, Snap Settings, Zoom, Pan, and Help.
Do I have a setting off somewhere? Or is there a location where the sharps don't work?

I have a script that is perfectly works in 2012 inventor pro version. It moves newly added virtual parts into the VIRTUAL_PARTS folder. Part of script is below:

In 2014 pro it works only once, when I add first virtual part. It creates a folder and moves it there. When I add 2nd virtual part it gives me a error

I would like to include Terminals and other virtual parts in het BOM on my drawing. For this I need to generate a report. I have defined my own virtual parts but somhow their properties are not accessible. You can see 88 items but this is the total of all segements and pins. Somehow partnumbers show as "---". I have included the report configuration file I am using.

I'm currently using Inventor Professional 2012, and have been experiencing problems with virtual memory usage. In past versions of Inventor, the small bar graph counter at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen (Virtual memory counter? Not sure what to call it...) would "re-fresh" after closing a model, drawing, etc. (i.e. Once closing the file, the counter would change from yellow to green, bringing the virtual memory usage back to zero). However, this isn't happening with 2012, and I'm not sure if the problem is the way Inventor was installed onto my workstation, or if it's a problem with the hardware. A temporary solution has been to shut down Inventor when the bar graph gets too far into the yellow range (or red), and then starting up Inventor again.
Specs for my workstation are as follows: Windows 7 (32-bit), processor is Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU W3503 @ 2.4GHz 2.39GHz, 3GB RAM.

How do I ad my own terminals, seals etc. under Connecter Pin Propertiesvirtual parts, and how do get this information on the nailboard.
Alternatively, I would to put this information(seals and terminals that are to be used with the connector) directly on the connector that i publish to content center, some sort of property/text, that I can retrieve on the drawing/nailboard.

I thought I had virtual sharps figured out but I guess not. I can dimension to the virtual sharps point but the wittness lines are not showing up. Thus it appears that the dimension is to something off in space. Where do I find the setting to show the wittness lines and select the style of lines? As I wrote this I thought of "styles editor" but I didn't fijnd anything there either.

In Inventor you can use "virtual components" in assemblies for things like paint, oil etc. In Vault, these virtual components will get an item number. Is it possible to re-use a virtual component in another assembly?
Like the same paint for 2 different models (maybe just differing in amount). Right now I would have to create a lot of items for the same thing.

getting virtual Components to be included in an Excel output of an assy BOM. I have an existing macro (see code below) that exports the StockNumber, partNumber,Description and an occurrence count of each item to an Excel spreadshet. It all works fine except for Virtual Componenst which are not included. It seems that because no file is created that the VC item can't be included in the Excel doc.
