I am using Inventor 2010 and I want the weight of the part but not the lbmass in the titleblock. In 2010 there are no ilogic rules to change this so how would I accomplish this?
View 6 RepliesMy drawing template title block has a section for estimated weight. This value and overall size is used to determine shipping methods of our products. This value is pulled from the Type->Physical Properties-Model and Property->MASS. There is no option to turn off units. When our clients look at the drawing, they often get confused with lbmass unit. example; When someone asks what the weight of the product is, we dont say it is 1300 pound mass, we say it is 1300 pounds. I have looked around all different forums and found no complete answer or solution to this.
The only thing closest to a solution that I found on this forum is to create a rule that creates a custom iproperty within the model. [URL]........
You then have to create a text field in your title block that populates from that custom iproperty but can only be done when a base view is inserted from a model that has the custom iproperty rule applied.
From what I have tried, you can create a .ipt template to save you from creating that rule to create a custom iproperty each and every time, but to populate the title block field, a user needs to create that text field and draw from that custom iproperty once the base view is set on the drawing.
I also found a way to incorporate mass without units but the information will be put into the parts list. So instead of the weight being "automatically" entered into the title block after inserting base view, I could create a parts list for every drawing. (Not a good solution) [URL].........
One last solution that I found, is there used to be a tool called iProperty Collection[URL]....... that gave users the ability to customize some Inventor functions. One being the ability to change the unit displayed for MASS. I haven't tried using this tool because the last update off the website stated in 2009; says the software is not compatible with Inventor 2009 64bit, since I am using Inventor 2012 64bit, I think this is a dead end.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to convert a 3D model saved as a .dwg in AutoCAD 2011 to a .stp file using Inventor Fusion Technology Preview. I did it once and it worked perfect. But since, every time I save the .dwg as a .stp in Fusion, it scales the object down to 39% of the original.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI´ve started at a school which is using autodesk inventor 2010, but on my computer I have autodesk inventor 2012, and I can´t find the way to open the homework I do at home on the school computers.
It is supossed that my inventor 2012 saves the files in 2010 format as I can read on the settings, but when I open it on the 2010 in shows me an error message about that it´s not possible open this file. Also I´ve tried to save as 2007 format, but it can´t open it.
I created an assembly, so far with one part in it. I created an Excel spreadsheet with several dimensions in it that would be used in the assembly parts. I went to Manage>Parameters and linked the spreadsheet. The Excel file appeared in the Parameter Dialog Box with the parameters included in it. However, when I create a part in the assembly and attempt to dimension a sketch in it, the parameters option in the dimension box is not present.
I have done this in the past in IV2009, has anything changed that I cannot do so in 2010?
We are currently running Inventor 2010 Professional (64-bit) on our computers with Vault 2010 on a remote server, but are ready to upgrade to Inventor 2012 Professional. Will we be able to continue to use Vault 2010, or will our Vault (ADMS?) need to go to 2012 also?
A side question, what are the strategies to update the files in the Vault to 2012? As needed? Setup an automated task?
We are currently still using Inventor2010. I realize that we are using a later version (trying to get boss to allow us to upgrade). I was wondering if that is where our issues stem from. At times when we create iAssemblies we have issues in which objects disappear and/or inventor crashes whenever we switch the tree to a different part number. If we try to place a sub-assembly file into an assembly file some parts seem to disappear. As a work around we have tried to place all components separately (omitting the sub-assembly file), and the file will still crash or objects disappear. Some of our files get a little large, but aren't really to complex. We have been having issues with this one file in particular and it has been redone several times by different users, on different work stations.

When the Edit Dimension box appears, I type the new measurement in, but the plane wont move. I have a lot of construction sitting on this plane, but it is in the wrong spot.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn Inventor dwgs when I turn the visibility of the harness assembly off (the icon turns gray) the harness still remains visible in the View on the dwg. My co-worker is having the same problem. This is happening on several different inventor dwgs where the harness is not visible (the visibility is turned off) but once an edit is made to the assembly (such as making a part visible) the harness becomes visible even the the visibility is turned off in that View. I don't know if this is related to the recent installation of service pack 4 for inventor 2010 as this problem recently began occurring.

I'm unfolding a 30x40x2 mm square tube for tube laser. The tube is imported from STEP format.
The flat pattern is 1,5 mm too narrow - even when I increase the K-factor to 1,0.
Is there any work around to get a wider flat pattern.

As you could already read in the headline of this topic, I'm getting two diffrent results from Inventor.File.ReferencedFileDescriptor with the Inventor 2010 API and Inventor 2012 API when I'm trying to get some information from the same Inventor file!
In my case the FullFileName and therefore the ReferenceMissing property get's me different values, although it's exactly the same Inventor file and exactly the same source code.
How could this happen? Any changes for the ReferenceFileDescriptors object from API 2010 to 2012?
I don't get it....
This happens almost evertime I go to a .ipn to update changes and save. It freezes w/ no cahnce of coming back. Two other things that is troubling me about the .ipn is that sometimes it will rearange itself w/ all the parts at 0,0,0 and or won't let me ballon any parts. After closing the file and opening it again it either does the same exact thing or takes the balloons but throws the pick points of into space......

View 9 Replies View RelatedHaven't figured out the trigger yet but after working in INV for a little while the "Application Menu" (used to be the File menu) does not respond to clicking on any buttons..Flyouts work but when you press the actual button nothing happens..
All other ribbon bar buttons function properly. Simply closing INV and restarting fixes the problem temporarily.
I 'm in the middle of our annual Autodesk software upgrades to the 2010 releases. One of my power users is having a problem with Inventor locking up everytime he selects the Annotation Ribbon Panel with an IDW open. I was able to reproduce this problem on the same workstation under my admin account. I tried to repair the installation and that did not work.
His workstation specs are:

Why is it that when you create the first constraint between any two components, the secondary component moves not only to satisfy the constraint, but also in ways that have nothing to do with the constraint. This is not occasional behavior, it happens every time.
I always have to stop and move the secondary component back out of the way to get to the other features I need to reference to continue.
Command Bars? In former times (Inventor 2010) User could define his own Command Bars.
I wrote an AddIn which defines a Command Bar containing one Button. Works fine. Now I define my own Command Bar, by Tools > Customize, and move the button from AddIn's Comman Bar to user-defined Command-Bar. Each time I restart Inventor the Button from user-defined Commandbar gets lost.
Is this an Inventor issue or is something wrong with my AddIn?

my user has AutoCAD Inventor 2010 and she wants to open a file created using AutoCAD 2007 but always failed with the error message that system running on low memory then Autocad will close. The file can be open without problem using AutoCAD 2007. I'd tried using a computer with Xeon Processor and 4 GB RAM but still facing the same problem so I guessed it's not the hardware problem. Is it a bug and how to solve it?

When I try to start Inventor is attempts to open and shows up in the active processes list for a few seconds.
Sometimes it will quit before the splash screen appears and sometimes a split second after it appears. No error messages or computer lag, it just simply quits. I'll list the steps I've taken so far. (Windows 7 64 bit)
Deleted the Cascadeinfo.cas file
I've had an error when my 3d connexion mouse trys to start so I uninstalled the drivers.
IT guy could open Inventor from his login on my computer but still not with mine.
Deleted Autodesk folder in the AppData folder and deleted the Cascadeinfo.cas again.
Did a "Repair" of Inventor.
Did a "Re-Install" of Inventor.
Nothing has worked yet and the only advice I'm finding is in regards to deleting the Cascadeinfo.cas file.
My thoughts are that the key to this problem is the fact that it works for other users on this machine. I just don't know what it is or how to fix it.
