I am using Inventor 2011 and vault. When I go to insert another instance of an IFeature i get a message that says "cannot insert iFeature that is currently open for edit (see attached) The .ide file and the part used to extract the iFeature are both closed and not checked out of the vault.
The only workaround I know of is is to close the file and open it up again.
I'm new to Inventor. Lets say I create a part called Pipe.ipt. In it I specify the OD, Thk and Length of the pipe. If I then create an Assembly, and I want to use multiple instances of Pipe.ipt, but each instance has a different set of parameters (i.e. different OD, Thk and Length). How do I do this?
I see I can set up iPart, and I could set up tables with the OD and Thickness for various standard pipe sizes. But this doesn't address the length. How do I re-use the same Part in an assembly, but each part has it's own set of unique paramenters?
I am making a truss assembly by connecting a series of nodes with 100 adaptive rods. The node positions are somewhat random, so each rod will be a unique length.
It could be done with 100 adaptive rods. Something like one adaptive part that can be used 100 times in one assembly?
I have an adaptive part which I created within an assembly. I created work planes in this file, based on features in the assembly, and created a sketch on one of these work planes. I used this sketch for an extrusion. then I wanted to reuse the sketch again for another extrusion - normally one needs to select 'Share sketch' from the right-click menu of the sketch, but this is not available. I have already experienced this (random) behaviour, i.e. the 'Share sketch' option missing from the menu. In those case it was ok to make the sketch visible, and then I could use it again. But now it doesn't work. I made it visible, but when I click Extrusion, Inventor wants me to create a sketch, claiming there is no usable sketch.

I am copying a design in the vault & when i go through all the files to ensure they are all to 'copy' there is several which I cannot change their status from 'reuse' to 'copy'
I don't have any of the files checked out & they are all the latest versions.
Can we use measure tool without having to open the part file?
Say directly in the viewer or in vault viewer.

I am repeatedly running into the same problem of a data linked table losing its formatting upon closing and opening the file.
Each time this happens, I am forced to enter the properties tab and return the height of the text and the height of the cell to the size that it had originally been. Is there an option that I have not seen? What is continuously causing this error?
As soon as I open a piece or try to make a new piece, it crashes! I can open the program but can't use it! I installed it and activated it and I can't use the program at all. I have sent many error reports beacuse I have opened it many times and had it crash many times and have always given my email address. Attached is the Error Report Details screen shot.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSeveral times when closing an IDW the image of the file reamains on the screen. The Tab for the file in the lower left hand corner dissapears but the image stil remains on the screen. You have to navigate to another open invnetor file in order for this image to dissapear. If you are not paying close attention you can inadvertantly close several files by repeatedly trying to close the "image" that is still on the screen. I am only seeing this on one of our workstations. Coulod this be a video card error or a setting?
View 8 Replies View RelatedTrying to create a bit of code that when the 'OnNew Document' event is fired the code checks for a particular Custom Property. Depending on what the Custom Property is set to a form is then fired with relevant text to point the user to a specific area in the workspace. Al this works ok.
But if they press cancel i need the code close the activate 'Part1' which inturn then allows the user to select 'New' to begin again.
I have tried various scenarios but the main problem is that Inventor then crashes!

After downloading the Autodesk Inventor 2013, I was forced to download the hotfix. I completed the download, and started up Inventor. My force closed crash report directed me to the most updated update, which I then installed to no avail. I've sent an additional crash report, but I've yet to recieve any feedback. When I go to either load the .ipt blank file, or even close the welcome center tab (to be able to access the tools to troubleshoot) It shuts down.

Is it possible to link one part file dimension to another part file?
1. Part first is a cylinder in parametric table i changed it,s name OD , ID and thk. ( find attachment )
Cylinder ID is ( ID=105)
2. Then i made 2 nd part whose step od ( od=102) is going to insert in to cylinder id.There is 3 mm clerance every time
3. So i have to make equction in 2 nd part that ( Step OD= ( ID-3).
means next time when i will change ID of cylinder OD of 2 nd part will ger changed automatically minus by 3 mm than id of cylinder.
Dear Sir, In particular project, when I insert part in Assembly file, It is inserted as a Tube & Pipe run part. so that It is not Grounded automatically. What is the settings by which I can insert as a normal part in assembly file ? I have attached herewith the JPG file also.
View 3 Replies View Relatedif this is a setting that needs changed or is a bug of some sort but when i am in an assembly and double click on a sub assembly it highlights that sub assembly and greys out the rest of the model as expected, however if i then right click on a part and bring up the menu and click open it does nothing. It seems as though when i right click, the menu opens and it deselects the part so when i select open it does nothing as no part is selected. I can click on the item in the tree and select open.

Part created in assembly does not update to part file.
The simple question is… how can we insert a step (stp) part into an existing part file?
The story behind the question is this:
Normally when we get a step file assembly from a customer, if the part has changed, we put our part into Old Versions and save their new step file as our ipt number and replace it in our assembly file. With Vault, in order for us to maintain the history of the part files, we need to keep the original file so we can’t just delete it or replace it, so now we need to figure out how to get a step file into an ipt. The Import command on the Manage tab (with 2013 at least?) does not allow import of stp files just yet.
The only other option I can think of is to put the original part into an assembly with the step file, create a copy of the step information in the part file and use it to recreate the new (step based) part.

Every time I start and end the Mtext command, as the dialog box opens and closes, the screen "shudders", or "jumps" a little. It is hard on my eyes. I just did an upgrade from AutoCADMap3D 2012 -->2013. For the two users that I did the installation, they have been getting this error "Exception in command ARX covsrvechelle19.arx" screenshot attached.
The dxf file they are trying to access is on the network drive. With Map3D2012 they have never experienced this problem. I installed AutoCAD SP1 but the problem still persisted.
I started out with a single 3 dimensional piece i had made using sketches, and split it into two using the split feature under the modify tab. Now I would like to take each of those two pieces and copy them into their own individual part files. I could do this by remaking them, but was wondering if I could simply copy and paste them into separate files.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn Inventor you can use "virtual components" in assemblies for things like paint, oil etc. In Vault, these virtual components will get an item number. Is it possible to re-use a virtual component in another assembly?
Like the same paint for 2 different models (maybe just differing in amount). Right now I would have to create a lot of items for the same thing.
I downloaded a model off a website, it is, (excuse my electrical background ignorance) a jumper for terminal blocks.Our electricians use these and cut them down to size as needed.
Is there a way to use iLogic and a form or message box, to prompt upon opening the part as to how many jumpers are needed for the current assembly> It comes stock with 10, but they sometimes only use 2, 3 4 etc. etc..
I didn't model the part, but I can if it will make the rule easier to write.My idea I suppose was to have the part modeled with 2 jumpers and then use ilogic to create more if necessary.
When pressing Ctrl + Alt + shift a menu pops up for Scratch Disc preferences. and there are 4 drop down menus with the labels First, Second, third, and fourth. The First drop down has options "Startup" and "C:". The other 3 have "none" and "C:". I'm not sure on what to do to correct this frustrating error. I have Already changed the first to the C drive. and tried many combinations still doesnt work.

As of now when I add ifeature it merges with the previous solid. I think I am missing something

Is there away to use an IFeature creating a new body?
I mean, modeling a part as multibody, i would like to insert a feature with an iFeature, but i would like too that that new feature will be a new body.
I have tried in many ways.. including inserting in the ifeature a Split Feature..but with no sucess.
The Axis is part of the iFeature, yet when I place it there is nothing available.
The objective for this is to automatically include an axis to mate to with the iFeature. The axis runs through a centerpoint on the iFeature.
I have a feeling the answer is I can't but I am hoping it is operator error.
Is possible create new Body (SolidBody) for iFeature? In VBA or .NET.

I'm a single user at a small company tooling company. I've created a handful of useful iFeatures that I've saved just in the default path: C:UsersPublicDocumentsAutodeskInventor 2013Catalog
However, we're in discussions now about hiring another designer, so as I do new projects, I've been trying to do things cleaner and making sure that the method to my madness is obvious. So I'm considering moving the contents of this folder to a network drive, and also one that's independent of Inventor upgrades (version # in the folder path).
My question is this: In the application settings, there are (3) different path settings on the iFeatures tab. How are these different?
When I've developed iFeatures I've usually had them initially in the Workspace directory for the current project. Once completed and tested, I would put them in the default folder. When I go to insert one later, the "Insert iFeature" dialog box doesn't take me to this path and I have to look it up all the time. It just takes me back to wherever I inserted the last one from. So what does this path in the settings box actually do for me?
If there's no "shortcut" to point to the iFeature root folder quickly, why do I care where I put them? Couln't I create a network folder such as "Z:CADifeatures" for these and add it as a Library to my projects and save myself time? I'd also not have to change the settings and/or make copies when we upgrade to IV2014.
Would there be a downside to doing this? It almost seems too easy and like there's room for product improvement here.
