View 2 RepliesI am creating my Final Grading surface with from 2 surfaces - a proposed road surface and a proposed grading surface. (Note of roads within the road surface)
The issue is that when I paste the proposed road surface (that consists of several looped sections) over the proposed grading surface, the proposed grading surface within the looped road areas dissappears.
I have tried several options using boundaries for the inner looped areas on my road surface, and has altered my order of opterations for my final surface edits, and many other things also.
I have attached an image for reference.
I wish to display an Assembly as a Drawing.
However when the Base view is created it also displays surface geomerty created for referencing.
I attach a PDF which shows this.
Even though these are hidden in the respective Part files, they keep showing up in the Drawing and I cannot find a way to hide them. How to stop this from happening? BTW I am using Inventor 2013.
We're using a precise level to as-built and create a dtm of a floor. The client would like us to assess the dtm for changes of grade greater than 3mm over 3m. (The test is based on walking around the floor with a 3m straight edge and 3mm blocks - see Figure 6 in this paper .)
Please note that the floor could be laid on a slope and still comply - it's the grade changes we're looking for. And some of these floors are large so we'd prefer make it as automatic as possible.
As far as I know there's no surface style that can display grade changes. We can shade each triangle by slope, but it will still require manual visual inspection to see if adjacent triangles are sufficiently similar to comply.
Is it possible to have the production tool for cross sections create separate sheet drawings, rather than creating multiple sheet layouts in one drawing?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWanted to know if there is a way to place pressure pipes at variable depths.
We got inspector notes which show the depths at each end of the pipes.
And I notice that under Pipe Properties, Part Properties tab, and under Geometry there is Start Cover and End Cover.
But both are greyed out.
Is it possible to use Star Cover and End Cover to design the pipes?

Am using Photoshop CS5.1, Simply want to create a single picture (file) that has a "built-in" mat around it. Seems like all that's needed is a box in background (color it as a mat), then put the picture on top.
Problem is, when I go to size (or crop) the picture, it changes the size of the mat and Canvas Size. "Really" want the Canvas Size to STAY 16in x 20in, just makes it easier so can SEE and adjust (move, crop, slide arund) the picture to be 13in x 17in in the center or whereever. After all done, will save as jpg, so can view/print easily.
Having issues with data shortcutting custom built structure parts? I built a very simple part that has no dimensions and is for plan appearane only (it is a just a rip rap outfall). The part seems to work perfectly in my design file, appearing exactly as I desired with automatic labeling. However, when I data shortcut the pipe network into the plan presentation file, all default pipes and structures are brought in except for the custom built rip rap outfall.
I have tried to delete and reload the data shortcut, changed the part properties, and made sure the parts lists and styles are the same in both drawing files. If I swap the custom part out (in the design file) for a default part, the default part is suddenly displayed in my plan presentation file after synchronizing. It is as if the data shortcut doesn't recognize the custom part, even though it is in the network parts list?

I have two .dwg files that represent two different surfaces. I would like to import each .dwg file into Inventor, then create a solid with the original surfaces serving as the top and bottom. I can send the .dwg files if necessary.
View 9 Replies View RelatedBasically I have drawn some lines, arcs and splines in the 3D space, then I created surfaces between these lines, arcs and splines, thus I created an 'object' which is defined by all these surfaces.
And what I want to do now is to fill up the empty space and basically convert it into a 3D solid object.
Another example would be a loft 'object', and it creates only a surface, so may I somehow fill up the empty space and turn it into an object?

i'm jumping into 3d late in life...playing with volumes. i've created surfaces from aerial surveys and have saved the surfaces as separate files. i would now like to run volumes of the two as they represent the same quarry site from different years. it appears (?) i need to have both surfaces listed in prospector to run volumes. each separate file has its own surface listed. question...how do i get (import?) the second surface drawing into one of the files so i have both listed and can run volumes? i see where i can create a surface from importing a .tin file...but i don't see how to export the surface as a .tin file.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with my data shortcuts for my surfaces not updating. I have 2 surfaces (one ex and one prop) both are on auto-rebuild. Both of them are in separate files and data short cutted into my profiles files (I have one for water, one sewer and a third for storm drains). Any time I make a change whether I add or subtract data the file the data does not update in the profiles. As a work around I have been creating a new data short cut and adding it to my profiles files. What am I doing wrong that would make them not update?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen you paste a surface into another how does it connect the surfaces? Does it create a vertical wall where at the edge of the paste surface? Can you tell it to grade a certain slope to the surface you are pasting into?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create a surface under my 'existing ground' surface. There is shallow rock where one of our projects is located and using geotechnical data I want to create a 'rock surface' at the known rock elevations. I just want this surface for visual reasons and do not want it to interact with the existing ground or pipe network.
I have 4 places along the roadway where I know the rock elevations. I created new points around each known point with the same elevation so there would be more than just four points on the surface and so I could make it the width of the road allowance. But when I look back to my profile of the road, it shows the existing profile drop to the rock surface at each place that I created points for the rock elevation. Not sure how to make it so the existing ground surface doesn't pick up the new points I added for the rock elevations.
We will be doing some grading in a park with trees. Probably maximum depth or fill of 12 inches. The question has come up to be able to show cut and fill quantities as a visual shade of colors. I have a way to display cut and fill ticks and it will give me the value, but that's not what they want. I change the cut ticks to red and the fill ticks to green. What is the best way to represent this like when you turn on slope percentages and assign different colors. but I want like 0-2" fill to be red, 2" - 4" to be green, etc.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIm working in Civil 09. I need to adjust the surface I created in order for the contours to be correct. Right now I'm interpolating point elevations to adjust the contours. I find myself adding lines and adding and deleting points. It's tedious. I tried changing the grid spacing to smaller one. It didn't seem to work.

All surfaces are existing, none are design. (existing ground, grubbed surface, bedrock surface)
How I miss LDD.
I have an alignement to which I have applied superelevation.
The superevation has been applied and the alignment has been annotation and it shows the change from camber to superelevation on the curves.
However when I create a surface of my corridor it does not show the superelevation, the surface is showing a cambered alignment throughout.
I have created a new alignment, a new corridor and surface and still the same.
I have recently upgraded to Civil 3D 2011 when we started receiving LiDAR data. I have been playing around with the data a bit and have a few questions on how the data is dealt with. It appears that when a point cloud is added to a surface, it is using the point cloud display somehow to generate the TIN. I believe that the point cloud display is showing a percentage of points based on the maximum number of 1.5 million points. On these particular datasets (citywide LiDAR coverage, about 2,600' x 2,600' panels), we may have 4-7 million points in each LAS file. Is Civil 3D ignoring all points beyond 1.5 million in surface building operations? Also, when adjusting the slider, is there any way to know which points will be displayed...or maybe the points are reduced randomly??
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an existing topo surface created as well as grading for a proposed elevated pad of earth done in civil 3d 2013. I simply want to calculate the cut and fill quantities. I created the grading with automatic surface creation checked on. When I use volume tools to see what the quantities are, it says 0.0 for both cut and fill.
I created another surface (TIN) and pasted the existing topo surface and the proposed grading surface into it and I couldn't get any quantities.
I created another surface (TIN volume) and set the base surface as the existing surface and the comparison surface as the surface created from the grading but again could get no quantities.
I created a grading and a surface for a pond that is abotu 30' away from a roaway that has a seperate surface. What would be the best way to connect the two surfaces? I need a uniform slope from the edge of pavement to the top of berm of the pond.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an oddly shapped "cut" area with various elevations that I want to create as a surface so that I can compare the volume with existing survey data. I've been able to get the basic "cut" template in 2 seperate surfaces, but now I want to combine them into 1 surface. When I paste one surface into another, the surfaces go haywire. I have attached a plan and cross section view of what the 2 surfaces (cuts) look like in relation to each other. how I could combine them into one surface and "trim" off the inside grading that overlaps..?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a set of sheets that have an surface (contours) on them.
When I plot them individually the surface plots fine. When I publish them using the same page setup, the surface will not plot. The contour labels do plot, just not the actual surface contours.
The surface is data shortcuted from another file.
I've changed my workflow slightly and have created 4 junctions via the wizard but kept them all in the same Corridor (previously I kept each one in its own corridor).
I now need to create the formation surfaces for the corridor (in the way I always have done it) but only one of the junctions has a surface. I then added a show boundary and the "missing" surfaces appeared but with many connecting triangles and superfluous triangles in the curved areas.
How to get a nicely shrink wrapped surface or is it a matter of brute force removal of triangles etc?
I have created several pond embankments using the grading tools and have created surfaces using the grading groups. The problem I am having is when I turn on the triangles for one surface, I get the triangles for all the embankments and EG. The software keeps adding to the EG and doesn't cut out each embankment. I know I'm missing a step but I'm unable to find it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a better way to get my 3D Faces from a surface into a DXF. Note: I need to have 3D Faces in a DXF as it is the only way my data collector will accept them. My current process is 1)export surface to a XML 2) open new drawing and import XML 3)make the surface style only display triangles 4)extract triangles from surface 5)change my surface style to no display 6)save drawing as a DXF. I don't like to extract the triangles from the original drawing because I am often making adjustments to the surface and then the old extracted triangles and still hanging around in the drawing. I don't want that. Looking to see if it would be possible to record a macro(or some other automated procedure) that would allow me to extract triangles as save them in a new DXF from a selected surface all in one step.

I've created a T intersection and have created the surface for the T corridor and the entering side road. The surfaces appear correct. When I create a surface for the main road, which has been split into two regions, the surface goes thru the T corridor. How do I create a surface that simply goes up to the T intersection and picks up again after the T intersection?
View 5 Replies View RelatedUntil now I have used Civil 3D for small projects. Now I'm starting a large project, 30 parcels, 5 roads in rough terrain.
Earlier I got some problems with some surfaces of the new construction that unwanted connected together. This time I want to get control of all small new "constructions" (parcels and roads) and connect them to the surface. I realize the original surface will be covered 100% of new terrain. How will I be able to connect all the surfaces together so that I can eventually create a single surface with all the new designs? (and run the waterdrop :-)
How to build all surfaces into the system?
I need to export a DTM for use in another package which I previously did by Extracting the Triangles, Selecting the 3D faces & Wblocking to DXF for import to the other package.
The developers of the other package have introduced an XML import which I have been trying out but when the surface is imported into the other package via XML most (but not all) of the triangles honour the original 3D faces.
The question is therefore: Does the XML output contain sufficient information to allow the other package to "join the dots" in the correct way so as to mirror the original 3D faces and thus create an exact copy of the DTM??

How practical is it to create and manage surfaces across multiple DWG files? One of the reasons I'm asking is some of our users are insisting their work can only done in a single file, resulting in massive DWG files and naturally, Civil3D slows to a crawl. I'll admit I'm not a full time Civil3D user or specialist - thats not my job. I'm reasonably certain it can be done from the most basic of research (which apparently nobody else wants to do...), but am Uncertain what the potential pitfalls are.
They complain of slowness and are requesting better computers from IT (I've talked them down to more RAM). I'm trying to forestall a potentially nasty political situation spiraling out of control: they get better computers, others will want them as well and either get them only because of connections, or won't get them and are resentful for the perceived lack of importance. We don't need people doing 2D schematic drawings on gaming rigs.
