How I subivide and get the interior lot lines dito not show over the outter lot? I don't do a lot of parcel work just trying to make it easy for the others

I use Civil 3D 2011. I have created a surface from a point group. Now i want to extend the surface to an outer boundary. To do so, i do the following steps:
- Select the surface and Extract the border object.
- Create feature line from the extracted border polyline
- offset this feature line (featureoffset) to outside specifying a offset distance and specifying the elevation difference as 0.
- Add this offseted new featureline as the boundary in the definition of the surface
- Rebuild the surface
Now when i am selecting the surface, I see that the featureline is not a part of the surface and I do not find the contours and the TIN extending to this new boundary. Also I still find the old border in the surface.
I have a known outer boundary for my depo for excess soil. I know how much (volume wise) is going in to the depo. I know that the slope is 1:2.
I do not know where the upper boundary (top of the depo) of the depo is. That's what I would like to find out.
I know that I can create a upper boundary with a feature line and then use the grading and volume tool in order to find out at what height the upper boundary is placed. But then the outer boundary is either too small or exceeds the known boundary.
What is the easiest way of finding out where the upper boundary is? I am thinking about drawing a feature line around the known boundary on top of the EG surface and then using stepped offset. Then I can check out the volume.
But is it possible to do this automatically instead of manually?
I try freezing my proposed storm structures inside Viewport for Existing Conditions sheet. My proposed DI's freeze because they use a block (in structure style). My proposed headwalls use the outer part boundary from catalog. BUT both DI and Headwall Style Component Layers are set to C-STRM-STRC.
In the pic for Existing Conditions Layout, you see a white headwall boundary. In proposed layout, you see a magenta headwall boundary. It's using the Object Layer and not the component layers for the headwall.
I didn't see another way to logically set up Object Layers for Pipes and Structures that contain Existing and Proposed Water, Storm, and Sanitary. My Object Layers have Pipes set to C-UTIL-PIPE and Structures set to C-UTIL-STRC, BUT the Component Layers inside the style are specific. Example: Existing Storm Structures and Pipes have layers such as V-STRM-PIPE and V-STRM-STRC. Proposed Storm would have Component Layers such as C-STRM-PIPE and C-STRM-STRC. The Object Layer for both existing and proposed use C-UTIL-PIPE and C-UTIL-STRC.
When cleaning up a surface, I've always created an Outer Boundary to define the surface limits so that the triangles wouldn't go where I didn't want them.
I'm trying prepping in hopes of sitting for my Autodesk Civil 3d Certification exam at AU. The chapter I'm currently reading through talks about deleting triangles from the surface.
So now I'm wondering about the pros and cons of both methods.
I am looking at a large area with approximately a thousand parcels in a shp file. The polygons of course are independent and the lines sometimes don't touch or they overlap. I want to be able to draw a perimeter around the parcels. What is the best way to draw a boundary? I have tried exploding the polygons and then delete all the non essential lines and then try to create it that way but pline edit and join doesn't work and when you are looking at 10000 segments and the overlap issues or not even touching. I am just trying to save hours if possible.

I have a record plat drawing with multiple parcels and parcel styles. For my lands of the grantors I view port froze the lots and right of way layers from my parcel styles. I don’t want to show them in this viewport. To my surprise the lines show up in the object layer we have set for parcels. This was not the case in 2011. We are in 2014 with the first hotfix update. I understand putting the parcel styles in the object layer, but why another mysterious line under it? I did create parcels from objects, but had them erased when I created them. This did not matter either way. Is there a way to get rid of them? I did put them in a new layer, set it to “No Plot” This kept them from plotting, but I really don’t want to have to take the time to do it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to do labels that depict my logo. When I put the logo in the corner, the outer boundry overlaps even though the logo is within the label.
Print preview message says one or more components tresspass printable area. I have only entered the logo. The background on the logo has been removed.
When creating and labelling a parcel Autocadd Civil 3d places a label in an adjoining area outside of the intended parcel.
The label seems ubrelated to the intended parcel and is labelled with a diferent parcel number, area, etc.. No additional parcel boundaries seem to be created.
Have created a closed polyline for parcel creation as well as a number of other steps to ensure that there are no breaks in the enclosed parcel.
Let's say I have a letter 'B' and I want to create an outline on the outer boundary only and not the inner boundary i.e. the two small 'D', how can I achieve that?

1. either only import the point cloud in a polyline area i specify
2. add all the points within a boundary not limited to the pointclouddensity = 100, freaking default is 15 almost cost my job today. extremely stressed out right now.
i am talking about extreme lidar surveys. 1km 1km LAS/0.5m contours/xyz files times 355 of them. covers a 2km wide corridor. but i only need 100m wide after i define the road alignment. no need to have all the extra points.
right now i densify the heck out of it and end up like 5-12m points. decent but not good enough because the geotech is bitching about that accuracy is not good for some feasibility study. or is there any software i can do this besides civil 3d.
what i want can also do is automate the 'add points to surface" under point cloud and have the software do multiple boundaries without having me baby it over the night. right now every click is 5 minutes and adds like 400k to 1 million points. Civil 3D 2012
LSP routine or some easy way to take any given rectangle and divide it into "x" number of rectangles?
I can run a Macro to accomplish this, but ONLY if the rectangle is of the same dimensions as set up in the Macro.
What I am looking for is a LSP or something else that can take a rectangle of any dimension, "array" it into 64 rectangles, all having same dimensions, and said 64 rectangles making up the original, larger rectangle. The end product will resemble a grid of sorts, but I need each interior rectangle to be a closed polyline, rather than just splitting the large rectangle with gridlines.
I can do this manually using the array command for each one, but there are several hundred that need broken up, and no time to do it in.

As a Realtor I need to be able to show both exterior views through windows as well as the interior space. I have a Sony cybershot camera but cannot find any settings to allow for this. Is there a way to correct photos on Photoshop?....or do I need a special camera/lens or what?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI used a 2d polyline to create a surface boundary for a surface created. The polyline is a closed loop. For the boundary type it is outer, unchecked Non-destructive breakline, and mid-ordinate distance = 1.
My problem is that when I do this I only get a small portion of the surface to show up within my surface boundary. If I don't have a surface boundary the entire drawing surface shows up no problem.
The purple polyline is my boundary and the light blue is the surface created within the boundary.
I have one surface (surveyed pts) that I would like to paste onto another larger surface (say a LIDAR or GIS base). The extents of the small surface are entirely within the extents of the larger surface. The small surface does, however, have some interior areas without any data ('holes' if you will). In these areas, I want the paste operation to result in just the original base surface... but the paste operation assumes I want the new composite surface to also have a hole...
Screen shot illustrating attached with example surfaces. Is there a way to paste only the surface and not the holes?
I have a drawing the loads slowly and makes Civil3d become non responsive for i while.
It seems to stop with "finding interior borders" as the action in the lower left corner it has some datashortcuts and xrefs on to a network drive.
How to find what is the causing the slow down?
I will start by removing all the xrefs and datashortcuts and see if it works?
I think I have read about slow load times with network drives recently but can not find the post again.
On a road project I have an acquisition parcel that is matched across 2 viewports on one layout. I would usually slide the parcel label so it's only visible on one layout. Then I'd add a second label that would be visible on the second layout.
This line happens to cross the viewport near the end. If I add a label in the lower viewport that looks reasonable. It will overlap in to the upper viewport. I can drag the label to very near the end of the line but it doesn't look right there. I don't think it's good procedure to try and force one parcel label on to it's own layer so it can be frozen in that one viewport.
Any technique for handling this situation?

I copied the General Legal Description report and renamed it. When I ran the report, it asked me to save the file Civil.html before opening it. If I run the OOTB report it does not ask me to save the page before opening it. Is this something that I can fix? I have not found a setting anywhere that changes this.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am new to C3D and I have been going through all of the tutorials and learning everything I can from the given data, which has been amazingly useful. Everything has been running spot on except today when I was going throughtthe parcels tutorial, I applied Parcel Number and Area to a group of parcels I created via the tutorial dwg file "Parcle-1A". Everything displays correctly except the Area is not shown as it does in the sample pic. I have applied the "Parcel Number And Area" to the Area Label Style, but it still does not display the area. Only the Parcel Number. Is there some part of this process that I am overlooking? The tutorial dwg file is called "Parcel-1A". It was too large to attach, but you can find all of the tutorial dwg files via the Help Menu. It depends on your OS to where they are located.
If you go under Parcels Tutorial>Exercise 1: Creating Parcels from AutoCAD Objects, you can see exactly what I am working with.

I have a drawing with two parcel tables in it. I would like the header on one to be Line Table 1 and the other Line Table 2, is this possible? When I change the text in the style, the header in both change.

Don't deal it as parcel preview when you actually click on the name of the parcel. That I do know how to toggle on. We're just looking for the list.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI would like to have my parcels be able to label the lots with sometihng other than the Lot # given by the setup of the parcel itself. What i'd like to be able to do is have it label Outlot A - which I haven't been able to figure out to date.
How can I get the parcel style to use something other than the word Lot or a number (given the typical lot is a number). We have various reasons why Outlot A is a needed label. How does one go about getting C3D to use something other than the name template in parcel style. I can toggle the name template option off once I create the parcel. But, when I toggle it off - then go to the name and change it to Outlot A - the parcel label still shows as Lot 1. Why?

I need to access the parcel boundary segments .. have I used the incorrect object?
I don't have much experience with parcels. We don't subdivide property. But I have to do some Acquisition maps and this is the first time I've had an opportunity to do them in Civil 3D.
I wont get in to the gory detail, but I created some parcels that were very slightly off for rotation. It turned out there were some distance problems too. I thought I would just rotate the parcel based on a couple of known corners and then snap to corners I had from a drawing in the correct system.
Mostly that worked. But now I have a curve that isn't tangent because the far end of one of the tangents was adjusted. Also, somehow, the radius is off. I'm only talking about a couple of thousands of a foot, but I'd like to make it right since it has to be edited anyway. I've tried the parcel editing tools from the ribbon and read some of the sections in help that I thought might apply. I haven't been able to adjust the curve.
So now after all the warm-up, my questions. Can I just erase that curve and use the parcel creation tools to add a new curve? Will that curve automatically be added to the correct parcel? Is there anyway to modify the existing curve to be tangent to the revised lines? IOW What's the best way to proceed?
Is there anyway to create parcel labels (or any other kind of C3D label) that are NOT annotative?

Any quick way of calculating average Parcel Area? I used to export to LandXML and do an area report in CSV. That doesn't seem to be working for me when I export out of C3D 2012.
The workaround I found was to select all the parcels in Prospector, copy to clip board, paste in excel, find and replace "_Sq. Ft._" with 0, then do the average.
