AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Adjust Side-shots In Cogo Editor
Jul 17, 2013
What is the trick to getting the Cogo Editor to adjust side-shots set during a traverse?
I input the traverse 'points' into the Cogo Editor via a polyline, and I set my POB and POC (same point). I then inserted additional 'side-types' in Cogo Editor to reflect various side-shot positions. For 'Angle/Direction' info for these inserted side-types I selected points in the drawing; Cogo Editor did not let me select just one point per side-shot - I had to select two points each time, so I selected the occupied position and the side-shot position.
When I view a report, regardless of adjustment, it only shows data for the polyline sides. Post-adjustment, when I inserted cogo points into the drawing from Cogo Editor, only the vertices of the polyline were inserted as cogo points, i.e., it appears that only those points were 'seen' and adjusted.
Attached is a view of the Cogo Editor.

Question 1: Is it possible to change a Survey COGO point to a regular COGO point so you can edit the datum?
If not:
Question 2: Is it possible to transfer the survey database from one office to another so the end office can make datum changes to the survey COGO points. Will the link between the file and the database still apply?

I am wanting to draw lines from gun setup to the back sight, and then from the gun to all the radial shots that were taken from that setup. I would like to do this as automatically as possible. (i.e. a bunch of radial lines from the gun to each individual shot from that setup).
Our raw files are in TDS format. I could do it manually by using the transparent command 'PN, but I would have to draw a line from the setup to the shots individually.
Otherwise, I could write a lisp that asks me for the setup pt number, and I could give it a range ot pt #'s and have it draw lines from the gun to each of the pts in the range. (that is, if 'PN works in lisp).

I was able to move Cogo points onto an existing line or polyline, and retain their existing Z value, rather than changing to 0.00 of the height of the poly line/line.
Is there a variable to change this? Thought it might be "OSNAPZ" but thats already set to 1 and this is still happening.

How to set a default point description to match the point number. I need to match the point number and the point description as per below:
Point # = 1 - Description = 1Point # = 2 - Description = 2Point # = 3 - Description = 3and so on.
Is there a quick way to add this description once the points are already created?
Also, it seem I can't make the default style and label to work. I edited the Feature Setting on the Setting tab of the Toolspace and I made sure there's no child override. When I open the point creation menu, my default styles are there (grayed out), but when I create the points, they pick up another style and another label style.

My delima is regarding cogo point readability. I'm used to LDD so this may be the issue. I set a cogo point but I want it to stay in the same orientation. if I use orbit or dview the cogo point data reorients (rotates) to line up horizontally. I would like the data to remain as set originally. I tried changing plan readabilty in label styles but when I drag the point it rotates to the current view orientation. Is there a way to control the rotation once dragged so it does not reorient if I change the orbit or dview?

I have a dwg that looks great in model space, however I created a couple paperspace layouts and then used Align Space to rotate to those views. The problem is that my point label style rotates the point labels based on the align space rotation.
I looked into the point label settings and changed the orientation reference to the World Coord. Sys., but it does not make the points rotate correctly. (world reference is the goal).

Adding a prefix to the end of a cogo point ie.(when we bring in info we have a top of curb and a face of curb shot and we add TC and FC to the text componite editor.) is there a process where i can add this at one time or set civli up to where when it processes the file to recognize them and add this automatically for minimize drafting time?

We are in the middle of upgrading from LDD2008 to Civil3D2013. This is a 2 part question. Since there are NO point labels similar to Poiint labels in LDD2008. It is making cleaning the elevations up very teadious. With point labels that are just Mtext. I would rotate 1 label and then match properties to rotate the rest and then jiust more the elevations to make them readable.
How do you all deal with cleaning up the elevations? Is there a way to match proprties as far as the rotatiion of the points? or do you Create blocks from Cogo points?
So, I starting playing with the Creating Blocks from Cogo Points. This creates a block with attributes similar to the way Softdesk treated points back in the day. I ran into a couple of issues. 1 being, it rounds the elevation to 3 decimals places.
When it creates blocks from the Cogo Points some of the blocks are giving me 0.000 elevations for points that had actual elevations.

As survey data collectors now come with cameras intergrated, it would be very useful to be able to have a way of hyperlinking the imported survey points to the images. Images are normally named by the survey point number that they are associated with.
Can Civil3D import points and automatically have the hyperlink field of a COGO point populated?
Can this be achieved through the survey database? Or maybe via a point-file with UDP's?

Here is what I am trying to do,
I am working on an application, where the user would would choose
Category of point
Sub-category of point
Then click on a Button
1. Which then querry SQLite DB based on the querry a COGO point with relevent RDesc in inserted.
2. A suitable block is inserted in the same location.
3. Updates the handle for the block to the COGO UDP
Now I have commeted the last part of updating UDP.
I have issue inserting COGO.
Sometimes it works some time it throws fatal exception, object instance is not set. I am unable to catch the fatal exception.
Mini Dump - The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access
Here is the code,
Global.variables.spt_current_COGO_pt = null; PromptPointOptions ppo = new PromptPointOptions("
Select the location to Create a Smart Point : "); PromptPointResult ppr = Global.variables.ed.GetPoint(ppo); if (ppr.Status != PromptStatus.OK) return false;

I have a layout in my drawing (Civil 3d 2011) with multiple viewports and my point symbols (trees, manholes, etc.) won't display. I have other layouts in the same drawing that display them fine, but I need to use this specific layout for what I'm doing. This must be a setting of some sort but I can't seem to figure it out.

I have a large number of cogo points that I have set. I would like to move, as a group, the label portion only and leave the coordinate value as is. This would be a time saver as I am seeing that I am going to have to move every point individually. I used to be able to do this in LDD along with changing the rotation. I've tried locking the points and then moving them but the values change. Not too happy with the lack of control with the leader either.

This is a fantastic option, but I have a problem the whole drawing is rounded to two decimal places.
But when I execute create block from Cogo points he round heights on all points to three decimal places, where the third decimal is 0.
Example height is H =198.36 after H=198.360.

I would like to copy cogo points from one drawing to another, keeping both their layer and user defined properties.
I can:
1. Do a copy and then paste to orginal co-ords. This keeps the layers but loses the UDP's.
2. Export the points to a csv and import into new drawing. This keeps the UDP's but loses layers
3. Export to XML. This loses both Layers and UPD's
I don't have a desc key file setup for the codes on these pts so this is not an option.

any way to make a cogo point label become freely movable. Just now I can move it somewhat freely to the left or to the right of the original location, but if I want to move it just up or down it doesn't work very well. It flips around the (invisible) leader.

I am a surveyor doing an asbuilt of some ponds. I am working in the engineer's dwg. In PS, he does not scale down his drawing sheet block to 1"=1', he keeps it the same scale as model space, i.e. 1"=50'.
He has a viewport in the layout, and my Cogo Points seemed to be scaled at 1"=1', which makes them much to small, but everthing else is scaled correctly.
How can I make my Cogo Points appear bigger in PS?
I tried dbl-clicking in the viewport to be in MS, and the viewport says it's scale is 1'0" = 1'0". When I change it to 1"=50', the model view shrinks way down (the viewed area is bigger), and when I scroll to make the model view bigger, the Cogo Points are still small.
When I read the Properties of the viewport, it says:
Anno scale: 1"=50
Standard scale= 1"=50
Custom scale= 0.02
How I can get this viewport to make my Cogo Points big as they should be?
