AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Feature Line From Profile?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI HAVE A 2D PROFILE (DWG FILE NOT CIVIL3D FILE) of a pipeline that shows invert of the pipe.
I want to have this pipe as feature line .
is there any way to convert this profile to feature line?
I want to create a profile layout by feature line. Is it possible?I have a pipe about 3 miles long, an alignment along the pipe, and a provie view showing the exisitng surface and pipe network. The pipe network was created from a feature line. I projected the feature line to the profile.
This is why I want to do this: I need to label the horizontal and vertical angle points of the pipe in plan view. I crated a style that shows the station and elevation. I want the elevation to reference the profile. But it only gives me the elevation of the surface and I need the top of pipe elevation.
I tried crate profile by layout and traced over the top of the pipe in profile but its 3 miles and it will take a long time. How to get what I want done faster?

When I try to create a feature line using an alignment/ profile, sometimes it gives me a feature line for the entire alignment, even though my profile is only a small segment. I made sure I selected the correct profile, and I even deleted all other surface profiles just in case. But it still gives me a wonky feature line for the entire alignment.
However, in the same file, other profiles have worked perfectly.
Is there a way to project just one feature line (or anything appropiate...polyline, 3d poly etc) into the sections group or profiles ?
The thing is that Projection tool, labels everything that's a Block, Point, 3d poly ...etc to the sections group.
And it puts all labels in the same layer.
My project theme requires to project forest limit on every section. This is appearing on the survey as a polyline along the road. Civil Engineer / Infrastructure of metropolitan transports [URL]
I have a finished grade surface and I have a feature line that is my waterline. I created an alignment and then recreated my feature line so they would be linked. I can then create a profile using my alignment and that shows my surface at that alignment. I can even add the waterline by using project objects to profile view.
I need to be able to edit the feature line elevations in the profile view by creating and erasing PVIs so this will tie back to my geometry.

I have a 2D (dwg) plan and profile of pipeline ( Scanned) and I am going to find a way to have this pipe as 3d ( or featureline).
I can't do this manually because this is a long pipe.
I needed to remove a feature line that I used as a break line when creating a surface. When I removed the feature line from the definition of the surface, the grading did not change. It appears the points created by the feature line remain which is why grading didn't change. The only work around was to delete these points.
I noticed the same thing happens when I removed the surface boundary and inserted a new boundary. why these points remain and how to remove when I delete boundary and feature line from surface?
The intersection wizard makes dynamic EOP profiles based off of the cross slope from the centerline. Well the intersection tool doesn't always work with funky intersection layouts. Is it possible to manually create a dynamic EOP profile based on the cross slope from the centerline profile?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a low pressure sewer system that runs along a road side but is not always parallel to the road. I'm using hte centerline of the road for my alignment. What I need to do is have a profile of the existing ground above the centerline of the pressure pipes show in the plan/profile sheets. I do not need a profile of the roadway.
I'm currently using feature lines to accomplish this and that works fine in the main drawing, however, the profiles I create there don't transfer to the plan/profile sheets when I create them. The only way I have found so far to get thoe profiles to show in the plan/profile sheets is to create the feature lines in the plan/profile drawing and project those lines to my profile view. This is a fairly large system so I will have numerous plan/profile sheets. Creating the feature lines and profiles in the individual sheets is fairly time consuming.
I'm currently using Civil 3D 2012. I realize that with the addition of pressure pipe networks in 2013 might very well give me the tools I need but I'm at a point in this project, and our office, where switching to 2013 isn't really an option yet. However, if that is my answer then I will have to consider that.

Say you have a feature line in plan view and you project it to profile view. Is there a way to label the true slope of the projected feature line segments in profile?
The profile view depth labels are not accurate since it's simply calculating the length from station to station in profile.
...and of course this does not correspond to the true segment length since the feature line is not parallel to the alignment.
I seem to be having trouble changing the lineweight of my profile line. I have changed the line weight in the layer properties, in the Profile properties and tried changed the line weight in the pen style. Everywhere I could think I try to make the line thicker but when I plot, the line is still the same and difficult to distinguish from the grid blocks of the profile view.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to project feature lines into a profile when the plan view is xref'd? I have my plan view "existing topo" with all existing features/Figures and a existing surface.
My profile is a separate dwg with plan view xref'd and surface a data shortcut. Of course there are feature lines and Survey Figures in the existing top I want to project into the profile, but can't because it is an xref. Besides copying .
C3D 2012. I am trying to get the distance from the start of a featrue line to a selected point. My object is "FLobj" and my Point is PT1. I am using the method Get2dDistanceAtPoint. This is the line of code.
(vlax-invoke-method FLObj 'Get2DDistanceAtPoint pt1 'pDistance)
I keep getting "too many actual parameters".
I am wanting to add the name of my feature line to a label style. I am trying to create a label style that will show Lot Number and Area. I know i can create parcels, but i dont want to! I have also created a map table that can do exactly what i want on polylines, but will not work on an xref. Labelling featurelines does work in xrefs.
how to add the name into a label style?
Is there a way to decurve feature lines like how we do it with polylines? I am labeling my feature lines but don't want the curve labels to show up
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am building a surface and have back of curb, curb face, and curb flowline going around a curve. I cannot create the lines with the usual pline as they will cross due to poor field collect. I created the curbs with multiple arcs. I was then going to change them into Feature Lines and am wondering if I can then use them as breaklines in a surface.

I am building a corridor with the right side of the pavement fitting to the existing surface. The subassembly used to link the edge of pavement to the existing ground is LinkSlopeToSurface.
On the corridor created, the feature line (code P2) of the corridor surface (top) starts from the station 0+025, instead of 0+000.
I was wondering why there is no feature line P2 for station range 0+000 to 0+025? Does that mean the linkage to the existing ground surface not exist for the slope defined in the subassembly?
We are running Civil3d 2012. When converting a line or 3d poly to feature line, or just creating one it adds elevation points where it crosses surface breaklines even if you do not assign elevations. We want the feature to just have 2 elevations. The beginning and end. Is this a bug? Or is there another setting somewhere?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI created a label for retaining wall that takes the z value from the start and end of a feature line. Works great except that it isn't dynamic. I have created the feature line in a grading sheet where the surface is data shortcut into it and I'm just using grips to make sure the ends are on the bottom and top of the retaining wall. Is there any way to dynamically pin/tie the feature line to a surface that has been data shortcut?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAutoCAD C3D 2012 has been crashing nonstop over the past 3 days on me whenever I try to "Create a Feature Line from Object". I know that it is a localized problem as a co-worker has been in the same drawing and done grading work without any problems. The error has occurred in multiple drawings.

I Created a Feature Line from Objects (a polyline). I added it to Site 1, gave it a name, layer. Do I Assign elevations during creation (conversion options)?
I set the Elevation to 8.5 (NOT From surface)
Then I go to
Modify Feature Line -
Elevation Editor.
Why are the elevations locked? I want to set them.
Why do they do this? I am trying to quick elevation edit a featureline but my edit glyph jumps to a completly different featureline that is near.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI often use feature lines for parking lots and ponds. They're great when they work, but they drive me NUTS when they don't - which is a lot of the time. For parking lots and ponds, my feature lines usually close back on themselves. That's when I have trouble breaking the feature line. When I use BREAKFEATURE, I choose two points and this should, in theory, leave a gap in the feature line between those two points. That's not what happens. I end up with a huge gap between the first point I picked and a vertex point 5 or 6 vertices away. It doesn't matter where I pick the breaking points.
I've also tried TRIMFEATURES. I draw lines across the feature line where I would have chosen the breaking points. But the portion that I want to remove is the portion that always remains. It doesn't matter where I select the feature line to be trimmed (inside or outside of the cutting edges).
I think there may something wrong with the feature line itself. Sometimes, if I erase the original and draw a new one, it will trim just fine. But that's such a headache, and it doesn't always work. If I knew what was causing the feature lines to go squirrely, I would aviod it. Unfortunately, it seems like breathing the wrong way can screw up a feature line.
I was wondering if there is a way that I can take an existing grade surface and apply a designed pond surface.
Right now I have the pond as a set of 3d Polylines in the proper geometry.
I want to place the pond into this surface and cut/fill at a 3:1 from that pond to the existing surface.
I have a problem about creating feature line. When I want to create feature line between two red points, another point come into being by itself (blue point). If you look at the file I have attached, you will understand well what I want to express. I cant make any changes on this point. I cant delete, modify etc.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a complex grading situation with a sewer near a drainage channel. Long story short.... I need to somehow look at my alignment section by section and try to establish a feature line that will represent my proposed top of slope. There are a ton of different constraints that I will not go into. My ultimate need is the ability to establish a feature line or 3d pline from the section view. I know that this is somehow possible via corridors. Im working with just an aligment and cross sections at every 25 feet. Is this possible?
