AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Created Point Style To Flatten Points
Jun 15, 2012
I am running C3D 2012
I have created a point style to flatten the points and lines I create locating buildings effortlessly. I have called the point style "no elevation" and set the 3D geometry to flatten it at zero elevation. I then created a Point key description BLDX that references the style "No Elevation". I also made a figure under my figure group for BLDX that is not a breakline.
My BLDX is still coming in at elevation as well as the corresponding figure. When I hover over the points, it shows that it is using my point style of "No Elevation".
I have set the default style for the drawing to a certain style by going to toolspace - settings and right clicking on point and clicking on edit feature settings ...under default styles i set it to the one I want for both point style and point label style......how come when I create a few manual points and then go to the prospector tab and right click on _all points, the point label style is not set to the default one I set it to as I described above? The points are not coming in the way I want them to?
We're using C3D 2013 SP2. The survey company we use uses point styles to show the blocks. Say they shoot a catchbasin. Instead of inserting the block, the point shows up as the block.
I did a field check & needed to insert a missed CB. When I inserted the block, the other points that were CBs disappeared. I had to insert the block, copy it the clipboard, undo the insertion & then paste the block in. It did this on other drawings & other blocks.
Is there a way to change all your point styles display mode (flatten to elevation, use point elevation, or exaggerate elevation) at once? I don't mean make a new style and then apply it to all points: I want to systematically change it for all my current point styles.
Im still new to Civil 3D and i would like to know how to connect inported points using 3D polylines. I imported my points from Excel in a PNEZD format. How do i get the 3d poly line to snap to my points so I can Connect them? someone mentioned using a feature line to connect the points but im not sure how or what that would do.
How to set a default point style for point groups? Whenever I import survey points, I always put them into their own point group, so I can display each day's worth of survey data differently. For some reason, the point style always defaults to a certain style (our control point symbol). I'd like it to default to Basic, so I don't have to change this every time. Is it a template drawing setting somewhere?
When I create design points, they will not display until I thaw a layer that the survey points are on. I have double checked these settings: On Toolspace Settings tab, under Points-Commands-CreatePoints, Default Layer is "C-P-POINTS-TEMP". Default Style is set to Point Style=SPOTS-TEMP, and Point Label Style is set to TEMP-POINT#-ELEVATION-DESCRIPTION. When I check these styles, they are both set to the layer "C-P-POINTS-TEMP". Yet every point I create ends up on the layer "C-E-POINTS_FIELDWORK_11-14-11.
Is there a way to change the default attributes "POINT, ELEV, DESC" to a different setup/style? (E.G., the point label style from the point which the block originated from?).

I have projected Civil 3D COGO Points projected to a profile. I simply want to display the Civil 3D Point Number for each point in the profile.
In the Profile Projection Label Style, the only field in the text editor that displays this point number is the "Source Object Name. This shows up as "CogoPoint 124" for point 124 (see attached). How do I make this simply say the point number ONLY, i.e. "124"?
It would be nice to program the label style to display this field, yet delete the first 10 characters of "CogoPoint x", so it only says the point number, "x"
I'm using AutotCAD Civil 3D 2012 in the Civil 3D workspace, trying to create a point label style to show what I need it to show. I click on a point and select it's properties. Once on the properties tab I go down to the point label style box and clicked on the down arrow. A list of options then comes up and I selected the create/edit option. A small point label style box then appears and i choose the button directly next to the drop-down list and the label style composer box pops up. In this box I go to the layout tab and then go down to the contents box. I select the browse button next to the contents to select the contents. I select the contents I want but when I apply it every point has those contents and I need just that one point to have those contents.
Can I apply a default style to points with a raw description not in the description key sets?
When I import survey points into the drawing my description keys will assign specifed styles (and therefore layers) to descriptions it recognises, and a default style (and layer) to ones it does not recognise.
Then if i change raw descriptions in the drawing I can "Apply description keys" and have the styles and layers change based on the changes I made to the raw description. This is fine for descriptions in the key set.
Can I get Civil3D to apply the default style to points that did have a description that is in the DKS but has now been changed to one that is not? As it works for me now, these points remain unchanged in there layer and style.
Is there a way to renumber all the points in a point group? Right now I am doing each point individually but I have many points and it would be wonderful to learn how to do that automatically.
Is it possible to add points to a surface without adding them to a point group? I've got a bunch of ponds I'm doing and it will save me some time if I could just select the points, and not have to put them in a point group then add the point group.
I have created user defiined properties to add up to 5 inverts to a topo point object. Each consists of the direction of the invert as an enumerated list that can be picked from (N, NE, S, SE, etc) and the second is the measured distance from rim down to IE. I created these in order IE1_Dir, IE1_Meas, IE2_Dir, IE2_Meas, etc and the first time I used it everything worked fine and was in the proper order. Now after opening the drawing for a 2nd time all of the UDP's are scrambled making it a bit of a PITA to enter into the proper fields.
I do not see any logical order to why it is displaying this way as if it was in order of creation or alphebetical it would not have changed. Is there any way to correct this or is this a case of Civil 3D is going to do whatever it wants to do?
Imported points and I have a label style to label tree sizes automatically, but when there are many trees near each other labels start to overlap. So I will typically rotate the label style 180 degree or drag the label, but I am curious if its possible to have label always stay horizontal no matter what my rotation angle is.

i have a building corner point label style that labels the corner of bldgs with the elev on top of an arrow and the full description of a bdlgc on bottom of arrow...rotated at 45 degrees....
i have 3 components...a block of an autocad leader i call an arrow that i just drew from left to rt on layer 0 and named the component arrow...then i have the elevation and the description
problem is that when i rotate label to move it out of way of obstructions it flips the elev on bottom and the desc on top!!
i have tried a number of combinations of anchor pts and changing the "flip anchor pts with text" to true/false under the general tab of the label style composer...
I have an alignment with horizontal PVI points that are coincidental with COGO points. I want to display in a profile view, a surface elevation at the alignment PVI points in a band style. Is it possible to do this? If so, how?
I have a point cloud with 161 million points in it. This is basically fine and works well but I need to create equally high resolution surfaces from certain regions of the point cloud. No matter what size I choose my export shape, it will only create a surface from a ridiculously small 750,000 odd points, a 'feature' which has been documented on these forums before. I have POINTCLOUDDENSITY set to 100.
My question is, how can I build a surface from this high resolution point cloud data that has more than 750,000 odd points?
I'm thinking about mosaic'ing - ie. making several smaller surfaces over the required area and pasting them together.
I'm trying to import a GPS coordinate file where our Surveyor has used both Points Names (Alpha-Numeric) and Point Numbers. see below. I have setup a Point File Format for Pname, North, East, Elev and RAW Description, to import this comma separated point file. The problem is that Civil 3D does not want to seem to use a numeric point name as a Point Number, instead the number is used as a Point name and Civil 3D assigns a Point number from the next availible point number. Is it possible to automatically, when the Point Name is a numer only to also assign it the same value as the Point Names?
I would really want Civil 3D to allow users to use Both, Point Names without assigning a Point number.
Sometimes when i import points Civil 3d creates a Point group in the drawing with the name of the point file, sometime it does not. I prefer when it does create this point group. It always seems to create a Survey Point Group. How do i control wether or not a point group is created in the import?

I have created 8 points (from 4 locations with 2 depths in each location) in _All Points/Points. These 8 points are grouped into 2 Point Groups:
Points #1, #3, #5 & #7 for Point Group - (1) Depth#1 and Points #2, #4, #6 & #8 for Point Group - (2) Depth#2.
The "Name" of Point is filled with the SampleID (like cdc-ss01-s1, cdc-ss01-s2,...) - see the attached file. From the HELP of AutoCAD C3D 2013, I have read/studies the "Point Tables" and "Point Label Styles" and I cannot figure out how to label the 8 points to show the "Point Number", "Point Elevation", and "Name" of Point (i. e. the SampleID like cdc-ss01-s1 & cdc-ss01-s2, ....).!!
What I wish to do is to assign a set of points a sequence of point numbers (or custom properties) of my choosing. For example, I have the following points:
100
102
104
105
107
I wish to assign point 100 -> 1000, 105 to 1001, 107 to 1002, 104 -> 1003, and 102 ->1004. Basically, I am looking for a command or utility that implements the "TCOUNT" (using select-order) command, but for Cogo points instead of text. The renumber points command appears to only work with offsets, and does not eliminate gaps. I can sequence the points if I select the points I want, then copy them -> set duplicate points to sequence from the range I choose, but this does not allow for reordering of point numbers. I tried individually selecting them in the order I wanted, but didn't change the order in which they were numbered.
Alternatively, I can leave the point numbers the same, and assign a user defined property that I can use to sequence the points in the order of my choosing. However, I'm not sure how to go about assigning the sequence I wish short of typing in each value individually; obviously non-ideal.
A third possibility that presented itself to me was to create new, correctly sequenced points that overlap exactly with the old ones, and then somehow merge the two sets together. Would there be a way to merge the old points and the new ones based on the fact that the two points have the same X-Y coordinates? Preferably done in CAD itself; the last resort would be to export both sets of points out to excel, then do some fancy manipulation in excel, then reimport into CAD.
Point label styles do not scale properly in raster plots. Raster plots have long been my fix for making wipeouts and masks behave. Without the excellent fix raster plots have been, I'm sunk! All of my work depends upon raster plotting to maintain consistently correct output with absolutely no wipeout or masking errors. My point label styles all have a text height of 0.11" which is the plotted height according to the documentation. They are exactly the right height in all page setups with non-raster plot devices. But, when my page setup includes a raster device the text is scaled to just a speck. It should be 32 pixels high at the 288 pixels per inch I have specified but it is barely two or three pixels high both on my display and in my ploits.
The attachments show the wipeout/mask problem in 2012 DWF output and the rescaling of point labels in 2012 raster (TIFF) output. I am in critical need of a fix that does not involve special point label styles just for raster plots. Autodesk!? I already have to use a special pen tables for raster plots with pens sizes scaled for each dpi resolution I use but that has been settled for many years now.
I did some search and got some code from 2009 post which not really working for me. Since I am not a pofr for autocad civil3D and just staring to learn how programing with autolisp, I am having trouble to debug the code:
(defun xp()(setq sset1 (ssget "X" '((0 . "AECC_PARCEL_SEGMENT")))) (COMMAND "EXPLODE" SSET1 "") if (= (setq ss (ssget "X" '((0 . "AECC_COGO_POINT")))) nil) (setq ss (ssget "x" '((0 . "AECC_COGO_POINT")))) ); FILTERS UNCLOSED POLYLINES(defun c:changestyle() (setq xlabel (vlax-ename->vla-object (car (entsel))))
I am in the process of modifying our current company standards to conform to another set of standards. The main change is switching from "simplex" font style to "Tahoma".
Simple in theory but problematic in execution, our main alignment label style "GEO-LABL", used for P.O.T, PC, ect. utilizes an underlined reference text object in order to control the length of the line under the call. The base insertion places the call perpendicular to the alignment, when dragged to the left or right it switches to stacked text plan readable. Works like a champ with the "simplex" text style - 1.jpg see attached.
Now simply changing the font to "Tahoma" - 2.jpg the larger you make the text the larger the gap.I am trying to stay away from adding a line for the underline due to the difference in lengths needed when the call gets longer or shorter based on alignment name or stationing.
I'm working with both Carlson 2012 and Civil 3d 2012 so this could apply to either one.
I have a set of caissons that were shot on separate days, and they started in the middle when they shot them in. I wanted to create a coordinate table, with the points listed from the northernmost point to the southernmost point. I had thought there might be a way to create a table with dynamic input, where I could pick the points as I go along and have the information entered as I pick.
Is there any way to renumber the points via drawing a polyline connecting them, starting with the one I want as #1 and ending with the last one?
I want my survey symbols to come in on their own layers, separate from the point label. Lets use UPOL as an example: I have a point style UPOL*. It has assigned to it a block representing the utility pole. The size is set to drawing units, and sized to .1 inches.
The marker is on layer: V-NODE-POLE-SYMB
The label is on layer: V-NODE-POLE
The description key is as follows. UPOL*
Style: UPOL*
Point Label Style: Standard
Layer: V-NODE-POLE-SYMB
No other parameters have been choosen; scale parameter, fixed scale, or use drawing scale.
Have I done this correctly, to accomplish my task? I also noticed that I cannot turn the point label off by picking it. I have to turn the layer off in the layer manager.Should I use the description keys to scale the symbol, instead of the point style?
I have a point cloud dwg. Is there a way to increase the number of points displayed? The properties of the cloud say there is 14,000,000, but it only displays 34,000. Is there a way to increase the 34,000 number? See Image.
