I'd like to differentiate between proposed contours and existing contours on my plan views. Is there a way to show contours at a different thickness and/or color on one surface compared to another surface when both surfaces are displayed at the same time?
View 2 RepliesI am working on a project, I was given a file with the contour already mapped out. I am tasked with finding volume of a fill I had to create. I made a 3-D polyline at the elevation I want my fill to start from and going down to my final grade. How can I make surfaces with my map. I do not have any files to make the surface off of. What is the easiest way I can make a layer, TIN has already been done but no surfaces are in the file.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have created a TIN surface from polyline contour data in Civil3D 2013. My file shows shows that the surface is present both in the Prospector and when I float over the surface and will preview. I assigned a style to the surface, which for my uses is displaying minors at 1' and majors at 10'. My problem is that the contours only display sometimes. That is to say, SOMETIMES I open the file and I can see the surface contours and other times it simply will not display them.
There has been NO change to the layer (on, visible and not frozen) nor to the style (not assigned as not showing or any different color) between current and the time I used the file last. Occasionally, when I restart my machine, the contours will display for a few hours worth of work, but when I return the next day, or after a hang, restart my machine again, the contours simply will not show. If I add "show triangles" in the style definition, the triangles will show every time, but not the contours.
I changed my RAM from 2- 4GB DIMMs to 2- 8GB DIMMS giving me a total of 16GB of RAM, which I did, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference in performance and the contours still don't show.
In C3d2011 I cant seem to change my contour label style from STYLE A to STYLE B. Seems I used to right click and change it from there but that oprtions not available?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis has happened in a couple of drawings now. The STYLE dialog keeps saying "The current style has been modified. Do you want to save your changes?" even when I have changed nothing at all. Anyway, I select the style I want, hit Apply and Set Current, and put in some text. Now I list that text, and sure enough, instead of being on L80 it says L-BASE|Standard or some such thing. If I use DTEXT, Style and set it there, my text will be the correct style - but if I go back to the Style dialog box, L-BASE|Standard will show as current again. Acad C3D 2011.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Civil 3D 2012 and seem to have a reoccurring problem with the text styles changing. At the start of the day, I will open my drawing and find that my text style has changed and I am not sure what is causing this. I check my text styles and none of my settings has change nor has the text style. Nothing seems to fix the problem other than running a repair of the system.

The cut and fill areas are hatched solid and I want them set as another hatch style but after attempting to adjust the pattern it does not change. How does one change this and have it show? Civil 3d 2013 is currently being used but may have to back track to 2009.

I am looking for a way to change the text style used by a table style with Visual LISP. So far I have been able to get the IAcadTableStyle object from the acad_tablestyle dictionary, but there is no property for text style. Is this even possible? Code and results are below.

I am working with a template, that doesn't allow me to change the dimension style. In the project the Use Style Library is set to Read/Write. I have created my dimension style, at this point just a copy of the ANSI standard with a text size difference. I went to my template and set that syle as my default, and saved it. Now the fact that it doesn't automatically update the drawing I had alreadycreated is a nuisance, however if I creat a new drawing, the style has reverted to a different standard, that is not even the ANSI default. If I right click a dimension and change the dimstyle to what I saved it does update, but if I try to change the style again it defaults to a random dimstyle, AND changes the style even if I hit cancel. So... the question is how to make the changes stick?
View 1 Replies View RelatedC3D 2013. We have profile line labels, some of which get manually edited (for example, change the "<[Tangent grade(FP|P2|RN|AP|GC|UN|SD|OF)]>" to a static number such as 0.29%).
However, if you CTRL+Click and select one of these labels and change the style of that one label, then the manual edits are lost and the label reverts back to the default string.
Is there any way to turn this behavior off?

It's not displaying the contours within my collection I must've tripped off setting for displaying them but I can't find where that setting is, or if it's even available anymore? I don't believe I've used it since CS 3 or4. I'm using CS6 now but contours seems to have changed.
Like changing the colour of a surface, but the surface has detail and i don't want to go over the detail, hair for instance, what would i use? something that covers the patch ?

If I manually change it to a child style and then check the values, they are the same as what I'm trying to set them to. If you use a "parent" style then these both work. Am I doing something wrong or this another limitation?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm jumping into 3d late in life...playing with volumes. i've created surfaces from aerial surveys and have saved the surfaces as separate files. i would now like to run volumes of the two as they represent the same quarry site from different years. it appears (?) i need to have both surfaces listed in prospector to run volumes. each separate file has its own surface listed. question...how do i get (import?) the second surface drawing into one of the files so i have both listed and can run volumes? i see where i can create a surface from importing a .tin file...but i don't see how to export the surface as a .tin file.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with my data shortcuts for my surfaces not updating. I have 2 surfaces (one ex and one prop) both are on auto-rebuild. Both of them are in separate files and data short cutted into my profiles files (I have one for water, one sewer and a third for storm drains). Any time I make a change whether I add or subtract data the file the data does not update in the profiles. As a work around I have been creating a new data short cut and adding it to my profiles files. What am I doing wrong that would make them not update?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to change the style of my single text, not Mtext, but just text on AutoCAD 2011. If I try to edit Mtext then the Ribbon on the top of Cad changes to Text Editor and allows me to modify the text as I require. However when I click into single text all that happens is the text becomes highlight and I no longer get the option to change the style or font. What toolbar or option is missing so I can get it back as normal.
View 9 Replies View Relatedchanging text style in a drawing. Let's say there is a drawing where the font style is standard, or the standard is overwritten in the text box (different size or font). I want to create a new text style which uses a new text size and font.
If i select the text which was created earlier and switch text style to the one i just created only the size of the text changes not, and the font remains the same.
But if i enter the text formatting box select the text and in style i select the one i created (even though is already selected) the font will change as well. The problem with this solution is the time needed to change every text in a large drawing.
If i use MATCHPROP the same thing, the size of the text will change but not the font.
Is there a way to change both the size and font of the text fast and easy?
When generating a line of contour labels with Contour-Multiple, most of the labels are orientated properly but some of them on the line are rotated 180 degrees. Why aren't they ALL orientated in the same direction?
Also, sometimes, all of them will be orientated in the wrong direction such that they are, essentially, upside down. Is this a bug or is there a setting to adjust?
I have recreated two surfaces for my design, existing and proposed. I had used polylines for contours for in each surface. I tried labeling the contours but it will not let me select the contour itself.
I then tried to make the contours to 3d polylines and again added them to the surface and rebuilt. I still am not allowed to label the contour since it doesn't let me select the polyline. I am able to select the surface however.
When I create a grid from our OSIP DEM files the contours come in as a block. I usually do 1' and 5' contours. I would like to break these so that when I select a 1' contour it will show up individually with elevation data still attached. If you select one now, it selects the entire grid. If you explode it, you lose the grid file. Is there a way to do this or will a just have to label the contours so I know where I am at?

Issue You were unable to create contour labels. When you tried to create a single contour label, you could not select any of the contour lines of a surface. When you tried to create multiple contour labels, the contour label line disappeared after you selected the second point.
I'm trying to create a surface under my 'existing ground' surface. There is shallow rock where one of our projects is located and using geotechnical data I want to create a 'rock surface' at the known rock elevations. I just want this surface for visual reasons and do not want it to interact with the existing ground or pipe network.
I have 4 places along the roadway where I know the rock elevations. I created new points around each known point with the same elevation so there would be more than just four points on the surface and so I could make it the width of the road allowance. But when I look back to my profile of the road, it shows the existing profile drop to the rock surface at each place that I created points for the rock elevation. Not sure how to make it so the existing ground surface doesn't pick up the new points I added for the rock elevations.
We will be doing some grading in a park with trees. Probably maximum depth or fill of 12 inches. The question has come up to be able to show cut and fill quantities as a visual shade of colors. I have a way to display cut and fill ticks and it will give me the value, but that's not what they want. I change the cut ticks to red and the fill ticks to green. What is the best way to represent this like when you turn on slope percentages and assign different colors. but I want like 0-2" fill to be red, 2" - 4" to be green, etc.

I find myself adding lines and adding and deleting points. It's tedious. I tried changing the grid spacing to smaller one. It didn't seem to work.
