AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Assembly Based On End Condition (not Start Condition)

Feb 28, 2013

I am using Civil3D 2011 and have a need to create an assembly that will take one of three options, depending on the tie-in condition points (e.g., the end of a link, not the beginning). As far as I can tell, Civil3D can discriminate which sub-assembly to choose based on conditions at the link starting point (e.g., if the start point is 2' of fill, it will select sub-assembly A; if the start point is 2' of cut, it will use sub-assembly B, etc.). However, I have a condition where the cut/fill conditions at the assembly start point have little to do with what I want the subsequen sub-assembly to do.

For simplicity's sake, you can imagine my "existing conditions" (2D) section as a flat-bottomed, U-shape with vertical sides (i.e., a trench); it's bottom width can vary. For the time-being, let us consider one side of an assembly in a fill condition only. Imagine that I want to satisfy design constraints but limiting fill quantities is a second priority; in instances when the bottom width is small, I would want the assembly to catch the existing trench with a 2:1 sideslope fill (or in Civil3D speak, a cut, because it would be upwards), so my finished surface is a now a V with the vertical faces above it. That works fine and dandy for a "trench" a few feet wide; however, imagine if that trench were 100s of feet wide - a 2:1 side slope would be a lot of fill for a ditch. So rather, I would want to "embank" the ditch - 2:1 side slope up (cut) to define my ditch XS, a horizontal link over to "embank" it, and then a 2:1 side slope down (fill) to catch the flat-bottom of my trench. So as you see, both situations have the same "Cut/Fill" condition (starting point) but drastically different end results.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Subassembly Composer - Ditch Depth In Fill Condition

Feb 2, 2013

I am trying to create a custom subassembly using SAC 2012 that will place a 1' deep ditch at the bottom of the slope in a fill condition.  The trouble I am having is how to hold a consant 1' depth on the backslope and vary the foreslope since the daylight offset and elevation is variable depending on the slope of the existing ground.  I need the attachment point to be the edge of the shoulder so it seems like a loop that varies the foreslope length would be required but loops are not allowed.  I will also have the option to target a profile but I also need the ability to hold a constant ditch depth.

How to model this condition.

I would like to crop an image to suit then have it resize vertically to a set size then stroke it with a colour of your choice (would stop and ask you to pick a colour from the image) then save it. Before conditions I made one but if the image changes the ratio of width to height during the crop it fails. Also of course before conditions it uses the colour for the stroke that I chose when making the the original action. AutoCAD Inventor :: Automated Assembly Based On Work Geometry

Aug 13, 2013

I'm trying to setup an assembly based on a complex 3D sketch.  In simplest terms, if I have a sketch for the perimeter of a house, I'd like to add instances of a 2x4.ipt at specified locations automatically.  That's not necessarily every 16", but rather wherever I put a specific geometry.  I'm imagining two work axis or sketch lines, one along the perimeter to determine the location of the 2x4 and one perpendicular to determine the direction the 2x4 points.

In actuality my sketch won't be a rectangle, but rather a complex 3D spline, that's why I'm hoping to get some sort of automated process.  And the current design involves somewhere on the order of 1500-1800 2x4s.  Making the sketches and geometry will be nightmarish enough, I'd prefer to be able to breeze through the assembly portion.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Creating A Rail Sub Assembly In Sub Assembly Composer 2013

Jul 11, 2013

I thought I created a rail sub assembly.

So I created the rail sub assembly everything looks great in sub assembly composer.

Start a new dwg data reference in the rail alignment, Note the rail alignment type is set to rail.

Create an assembly and under the Construction tab for the assembly the Assembly Type is set to Railway. Attach my custom sub assembly to this assembly.

Created a corridor and I get this error: Something wrong with current subassembly: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.

So I delete my sub assembly attach the Civil 3D Rail Single sub assembly. Re run corridor and everything works fine.

So I promote the alignment change type to centerline. Delete the Rail Single sub assembly put my rail sub assembly back. Rerun the corridor and everything works.

So then I undo everything up to the point of promoting the alignment.

Opened the base file changed the alignment type to centerline.

When I tried to synchronize the references I ended up a broken reference with the following error. Invalid reference. Synchronization failed

Not good we already have plan sheets cut.

where in sub assembly composer were do I define the sub assembly to be for Rail?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Location-based Compute Materials Corridor Shape?

Sep 19, 2011

I'd like to build a location-based quantity takeoff using compute materials (actually using a mix of QTO, composite volumes, and maybe parcels and bounded volumes but this question is specific to compute materials). I have been working on this technical challenge today and hope to have it solved by tomorrow morning.

I created a new 'Quantity Takeoff Criteria' and added materials for the items I'd like to takeoff with compute materials, such as the corridor shape volumes that are not well handled by QTO. So there are structure quantity types for materials Pave1, Base1, Curb, RW.Footing, Wall, and Barrier. But, when I return to Compute Materials I have the option to assign 1 object to each corridor shape named. Here is the problem, there are 36 pave objects named Pave1 and only 1 material Pave1.

The solution I tried is to go back and edit the code set styles to add a location prefix like 99CL1>M>06 to the link names - making 36 99CL1>*>**-Pave1 objects. But, apparently these are links and obviously not objects so the names did not go through to the compute materials objects list.

The next two approaches are: 1) Go back to the subassembly properties and edit the codeSetStyle with prefixes - I assume this means I'd need a distinct subassembly for each location, a unwieldy situation. 2) Create a specific material and shape pair for each location, for example 36 99CL1>*>**-Pave1 material and Pave1 shape pairs. An awkward workaround but preferable to defining a specific subassebly to each location.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Choose Best Hydrology Method Based On Available Data / Desired Outputs?

Nov 11, 2013

I am in case to model a stormwater network contain ditches with irregular sections, open channels and closed pipes in SSA. I do not have access to IDF curves for the Project area. We got a weather station in site which is giving us continuous data from last 3 months till now. At this stage we just decided to use certain Rainfall intensity (mm/hr).

We got some check points to check the turbidity. What I need to know after analyse is i.e what is the flow at these points at 6:00 pm if we experience the rainfall from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm with 20 mm/hr rainfall intensity.

So my concerns are with these available basic data, which method is suitable? and as long as we approach more valued data from in site weather station then which method will be the best.   If i want to input time of concentration manually for each subbasin then how can i input TC of pipes or channels in SSA? URL....

where MATT said: "SSA does not calculate the Standard-Step method. The Rational Methods (including modified, and DeKalb) all compute the runoff to the inlet or junction. As soon as runoff enters the system, continuity and momentum calculations take over. SInce you are using Steady State Qin = Qout, so no routing occurs on pipes."

how do i understand the flow in certain points i.e 2 hrs after the rainfall is finished if I can not define TC for pipes or channels?
