Apr 6, 2010Can you change a sv$ file to a dwg file. Acad help says you just change the file extension like you do a bak file, but I am unable to do this.

Nov 21, 2012I would like to know if there is a way to change the colour of the font of the file name at the top of the autocad window. It is currently white. The problem is our company standard desktop background colouris fixed as shown a light blue, and so I cannot read the file name of the autocad drawing.

Mar 9, 2012As an engineering company we have started to convert hundreds of our drawings from AutoCAD to PDF using a batch utility.
However every file that is converted into a PDF file is opened by a PDF Viewer. We want to prevent this.
I opened my *.pc3 file and removed the check from the appropriate box. See below
I press OK, then save the file and close. However when I reopen the file, I see the box for Openining in PDF Viewer has been rechecked. No matter what I do, I cannot permanently remove the check from this box.

Jun 10, 2012When I have 2 files open, one minimized and the other visible on the screen, when I quit the file showing on the screen and then open the one that was minimized, it comes up w/a blank black screen. There is no way I have found to get the info in the file to display.
Then, if I save the blank screenof previously minimized file, close it then reopen it the info is back on screen with changes made to the file intact.

Feb 12, 2013I found this error a bit strange, my colleague it trying to save a file and this error keeps on coming out (see attachments). When we try to save it, it only saves as a temp file. When we try to open up the temp file and try to save it, it still doesn't allow us to do. Also, when we cancel the save, the original file will be gone and he will lost all of his data. Below are the specs of the computer and version of the AutoCAD.
Computer: DELL Precision T5500
OS: Windows 7 Ult
AutoCAD Version: 2011
Also, we're using ProSteel Series 3 as well. We tried saving the file using ProSteel and just AutoCAD but it didn't do the trick. I've tried some options (listed below) that might get it to work but still no luck.
1. Restart the computer.
2. Repair / Reinstall AutoCAD.
3. Give permission to the folder (read from the forum).

Apr 18, 2012I have recently upgraded from AutoCAD 2008 to 2001. Now when opening a file from windows explorer (desktop vs the AutoCAD browser) and AutoCAD is not running. AutoCAD will startup and open a new drawing as well as bring up the dialog box for finding a file to open, which I cancel, THEN open the drawing that I have selected. I have not seen this before and am wondering what variable or option is causing to happen. I am also seeing two icons for the same drawing file in the Windows task bar.

Apr 12, 2013A co-worker had a copy of a handy little guide called "Lynn Allen's Tips and Tricks for AutoCAD 2012". I think she (or another co-worker) got it at AU.
On page 33 under the heading "DGN Support", it says the following:
Complex linetypes are now maintained! To ensure that custom linetypes are displayed, copy the corresponding .rsc files to the support path...........
The way I read that, Acad will read the RSC file and display linetypes from it. Is that true? Does it only work when I'm looking at a DGN file? Or can I use the RSC file with my dwg file? I'd test it myself but I don't have access to any MicroStation files.
If Acad can read the RSC file directly, then I don't see why the linetypes can't be used in a dwg file. AND that being the case, I also don't see why an Autodesk product can't be created to WRITE these RSC files. As far as I'm concerned MicroStation's custom linestyles is so much more advanced than Acad's linetypes.

Mar 19, 2013A fellow co-worker accidentally checked the box that says "don't open this file" (or something like that) that appears when a language file is missing upon opening a file from a client. He then also "accidentally" clicked the "perform this action every time" so as the warning window wouldn't appear any more. As a consequence there are now files that we cannot open on that computer. I've searched through system variable lists and come up empty handed.....

Jun 28, 2012Below is a .jpg copy of the Vitruvian Man that I bought on istockphoto.com. I would like to get rid of the gold background and keep the black line work. I would like what was the gold background to be transparent. I would like to convert this .jpg to a vector file using Adobe Illustrator CS5. To do this I assume I somehow use the Live Trace feature but I'm not exactly sure how.
I would then like to be able to select the black linework and change it to red. Does this mean I need to somehow convert the drawing into a collection of indivdual paths and anchor points? When I've used Live Trace before, I had the tolerance set to about 45 and Simple Trace. This indeed got rid of the gold background but gave me no individual paths or points I could select and change the color of. The only thing I could select was the image as a whole, not individual points or paths. It was the entire image within a box. This occurred whether I used the black arrow tool (Selection tool ) or the white arrow tool (Direct selection tool). If no, then how could I change the black linework to red?

Aug 31, 2012Been using ACAD for 20+years...AutoCAD 2012/Civil 3D 2012 is driving me nuts. Simple question I am sure. I created a new layer with green as its color. It is showing up as yellow in my viewport. I checked my plot style(ctb), and is same as I have used for many years....prints black(pen 7). Typically shows green on screen and plots black. Looking in the Layer Properties Manager, I noticed that on the far right, there is a column labeled 'VP Plot Syle'. It has Color 2(yellow) shown. How do I change this as I am guessing this is causing issue.

Aug 24, 2011I have noticed something strange in autocad 2012. when i create a new layer and then pick a color for that layer it will work fine, then when im working in the drawing and i pick a line and go to the pull down to put that line on the new layer, it will not be the color i chose. then when i look in layers to see whats going on, it will be the wrong color, i can change the color back to what i want, but the line will not respond. I actually have to, In the layers, pick a different color, then pick the color i want again and then it will work.

Mar 4, 2012I do 2D drafting and have noticed that AutoCAD 2012 hesitate and can be slow when working on 2D drawings. The drawings are small around 250KB. What settings can I change to speed up AutoCAD? The properties palette seems to slow things way down.
My computer is an HP Z200 with plenty of Ram (6 GB). I know it can't be my computer because this is the "recommended" computer by Autodesk for AutoCAD.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Change Text Style?
Feb 22, 2012In the old versions of autoCAD I could select everything in the drawing and use the text style pull-down to select the text style I wanted all of the existing text to be and it would change it when the style was selected. Is there not a way to do this in AutoCAD 2011 without using the quick select feature in the properties dialog box?
I solved the same problem with dimensions by turning the dimension toolbar on but the text toolbar doesn't have the style as an option on it.
