AutoCAD 2010 :: Add Continuous Line Border Around Mtext Box?
Jul 2, 2013is there a function to add a continuous line border around a mtext box? currently i have simply been drawing a rectangle around the text, but this seems clunky.

View 1 RepliesI just switched over from 2005 to 2012. In 2005 I used Express Tools to change several lines of text to one mtext object. I can't find it in 2012. I didn't realize how much I used it until I lost it.
how to select several lines of text and convert it to one mtext object?
I use Mtext quite a bit and I am trying to convince others in the office that it's a good thing (versus single line text in long paragraphs). One of their concerns in the shape of the Mtext. For instance, when you use Mtext, you type into a nice rectangle that you can change the size of. What they have to do on occassion is instead of having a nice rectangle of text, they have to make it like a triangle. So in this case, single line text can be adjusted so that the end of the sentences make an angle.
Is there a way to do this using mtext? Or is there an lsp that will work?
I made this custom hidden line, here is the defiinition:
*SCADA_FO_HL, - - - -SCADA-FO- - - -SCADA-FO- - - -SCADA-FO- - - -SCADA-FO- - - -SCADA-FO- - - -SCADA-FO- -
A,0.2,-0.4,0.2,-0.4,0.2,-0.4,0.2,-0.4,0.2,-0.4,0.2,["SCADA-FO",STANDARD,S=.375,U=0.0,X=1.0,Y=-.1],-5
It leaves a continuous line at the beginning and end of the line. Is there a way to get rid of that?
When you clip an something from a file you insert, is there a way not to have the outline that you clip show?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhy is this happening?
The dwg was fine, then it crashed while changing from modle space to paper space...
When i recovered the dwg, EVERY MTEXT I try to edit becomes rotated vertically and stays that way when i close the edit box...
I do not recall hitting any buttons or making any keystrokes without my knowing...
Is there a way to get my text back to Horizontal and stay that way?
I tried setting the MTEXTFIXED to: 0, 1 & 2.
NONE of these options changed anything.
I NEED to have this fixed. more importantly, i need to know why this is happening sop that i can take steps to prevent this happening in the future...
I am currently working with the latest CAD available.
Is there a tool where you just click on any line and it tells you how long the line is from end to end?
Basically I am drawing a curvy line that twists and turns here and there, but the line has to be less then so long. So I have to approximate the length by doing strait measurements and multiplying, it's really a pain.
I'd much rather just click the line, and it tell me how long it is from end to end, across turns and rounded edges and corners.
So, is it possible to create one polyline that has combined dashed and continuous type of line in one polyline?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have dragged station offset and multileaders next to each other in the drawing. Everything is set to go on the same layer. I am using named (stb) plot styles. The layer's lineweight is set to .25mm. However, I usually make the leaders be lighter in weight - .13mm. I am using text borders on both of these objects.
I can't get both the text and border to be the same in both objects unless I set everything to Bylayer. Given that I want lightweight leaders, and heavier text, this is unnacceptable.
It seems that the StaOff label style text and border weight in DRAGGED state are controlled by one lineweight setting.
In a multi leader, the text weight is always, apparently, Bylayer, and the text border is controlled by the lineweight set for the leader.

I have a problem with plotting my layout. When I plot, the lines from the xref are small tiny points/dots instead of a continous line. All other lines are OK. What could be the problem?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am wondering if it is possible to make a linetype that is essentially two continous lines (Or small dashes lines) overlayed atop one another. The purpose for this is to create a shadow effect (we use this for text on aerial imagery). The bottom line would be a thick white/black line and the top line would be the opposite so it stands out.

In 2008, never had this issue.Just dumb, circles, and lines in a view port, that have hidden or center linetyoes assigned to them. When we go to plot using legacy hidden (this new for 2012?) the plot comes out with continuous lines. These are not solids. Just ordinary line entities. Now, when I change the shadeplot to "hidden" the linetype is shown correctly, but now my entities are coloured, when I just want my drawing to be black and white (going to PDF), even though all of the colours in the pen style are set to "Black".
Has this changed? Is there a new variable introduced?
I was trying for an option with wipeout mask.
Is there any option with wipeout to turn the continuous lines into dotted lines instead of hiding the object? I have been working on one staircase block, i want to show half block as a dotted lines.. is there any way to do that without going in to the block edit and change? thats why am looking for wipeout mask option.
why does mtext sometimes have a box around it when i move it and how do i get rid of it.

I know there is an lisp out there called RTL that will allow you to do this with regular or Dtext, but I will not work with Mtext.
Is there a way to create strike through text in Mtext [TG 44.890] ? If I create it in Word and insert it in the Mtext editor. The line comes in but looks like an over score.

I have used this for some time with no problems but today..... Attached is the template I use and a nested drawing using the same template but with actual data. The one with data works with no problems. I'm pretty sure no variables have changed between them.
Is there a setting somewhere that keeps the Mtext Editor in the same place? I believe in previous versions if you specified "OldEditor" it would keep the editing box at the same size and same location that you specified. In ACAD 2012, if I change to "Old Editor" I get an error message - see attached.
I have tried MTEXTfixed at 0 or 1 with no luck. I do understand that you can zoom in and out to change the size of the text when editing.I run dual monitors and like to have the mtext editing on the screen without my drawing.
I have a drawing with mtext objects. I can not edit the the defined width through the properties palette. I think this is just some setting but I haven't been able to recall/ find it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a whole bunch of labels that are single line text that I want to convert to Mtext. I have been using the Express Tools TXT2MTXT command but that only works on one label at a time. If I select all the labels at once using this command it gives me one long Mtext string. Is there a way to convert all of the labels to mtext, but still maintaining individual entities?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a bunch of dwg's that were converted from dgn's using Microstation V8's batrch convert utility. In many of them there are these Mtext objects that, when I hover over them, or when I pick them to change their properties using the properties dialog, slow performance way down. I have to wait about ten seconds for the machine to catch up.
This can get pretty annoying since it ouccurs when I merely cross over the objects when I am not in any command whatsoever.
The text objects are referring to a font that I do not have installed on this machine. I think it defualted to using simplex.shx as a result. I did not get any errors or warnings about the missing shx when I opened the file.

How to change MTEXT to MLEADER? We often have texts on our drawing - mostly MTEXT and used line to the text.
Recently I started using MLEADER due to that it has added line to the text and looked more professional with consistent line setting out within the text.
The problem is that I don't seem to find a way of converting MTEXT to MLEADER. From the internet search, it seems that adding a LISP created by someone seems to do trick but I would prefer to do from the Autocad software so that all colleagues can use.
Would like to be able to select mtext explode it get x y coords of last line of text then turn it back to mtext and then launch mtext at a @0,-0.5 justification TL width 5 and display the ribbon.
All seems to work except the (command ...)
Below is my attempt.
(prompt "Select Note")
(setq ss (ssget))
(command "explode" ss)
(setq ss (ssget "l")) ;get last line of text
(setq ent (entget (ssname ss 0))
ent1 (cdr (assoc 10 ent))) ;get x y coords
(command "undo" "1") ;set exploded mtext back to mtext
(setvar "lastpoint" ent1)
(command "mtext" "@0,-0.4" "j" "TL" "w" "5")
Is there a way to insert CAD blocks into the Multiline text editor, much like you are able to insert a block into a Table.
I am asking for the sole purpose of Plan Notes. When we lay out Plan Notes originally we place the note bubble next to the line of text it represents. When we have to come back at a later time and edit the mtext, sometimes add a line our users are in a rush and forget to re-align the note bubbles with the text. If there was a way to insert the block into the text editor and have it still be able to edit it.
Is this a feature in 2013?

I received a drawing with Mtext notes has a different color from the layer they belong...the user change the Mtext note color from the Mtext editor .
Is there a way to change the color for these Mtext notes to by layer color globally and with one command?
Every so often, and I have not been able to determine common cause, when editing mtext in the default mtext editor the text in the editor will display as some other font - handletter, TXT, whatever - something other than the Romans I typically use. And both the style and the font are set to Romans. When I finish editing, the final text in the drawing is correct, so it is more an annoyance than anything.
