I was asked if there was a way to replace an embedded (Nested) block inside of multiple blocks, with another block. I thought of Express Tool's "Replace Block with Another Block", that that only works with blocks inside the drawing, not nested blocks. The only other way I know of is to redefine the block current block, then rename it to the new name.
View 6 RepliesI want to convert existing lighting blocks with attributes to a new dynamic block. I created a few visibility states but when i insert the block I can't move the attribute text around. I don't have to redefine the attributes within the block editor to make this work. What is the best way to deal with existing blocks with attributes?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs it just me or do the actions associated with parameters disappear on occasion from the block editor? Sometimes a regen will make them reappear, other times not. Closing/opening the block editor is one way to make them visible again (worked a few times at least).
View 6 Replies View RelatedTrouble with embedded OLE DWG objects in word 2010 not opening with AutoCAD 2012
We have a user that can't open some OLE DWG files from within a word document. He had 2010 AutoCAD LT on his machine for a while then was upgraded to 2012 AutoCAD (non LT) once that was there LT 2010 was unistalled. since then he has not been able to open certain embedded OLE files within Word. Other users that have other ever had AutoCAD 2012 have no issue opening this embedded DWG files.
i found this thread (URL....) which sounds exactly what is going on with my enduser. But the fix provided is for AutoCad 2000-2012 not the LT versions.
I need to replace a large number (3700) of blocks with points, and cannot find a command for that operation. I have found a lisp for converting circles to points.
Have I just not found the command, or am I a bad googler? Unfortenately I cannot handle pure code (yet), so I need a lisp file (or the command).
My company is in the process of updating the entire block library to be annotative or dynamic (depending on the usage) and it's been wonderful for new projects.
The problem comes in when we have to update an existing dwg. When we try to "blockreplace" the new annotative tags for the old non-annotative tags. These tags have attributes, but we have literally not changed anything about the blocks except the "annotativedwg" property within the root block file. When we run block replace, the old blocks disappear completely! they're not at a teeny scale or a gigantic scale, they're not on an "off" or "frozen" layer, they just fully go away even if you say "don't purge the old block that is being replaced".
I usually don't have a problem "doing my job" and just going through and replacing them individually on the smaller sized projects, but most of our projects have upwards of 700 - 1000 tags per dwg. Slightly tedious as you can imagine, especially since I am addicted to finding newer faster better ways to draw.
I am using AutoCAD 2013 on Windows 7 platform
95% of the blocks on the palettes have the images associated, and named, per the block name.
I have 48 blocks that the images are named like this "Block tool_F2149212-4649-41F5-95E6-4A978EC376F5_2".
I have tried resaving the blocks and recreating the blocks to no avail.
How to get these few blocks to have images that are associated with the actual block name and not the generic "block_too" name?
Lisp Routine that could replace a line at a specified maximum length with a block at the lines midpoint.
I would love to be able to replace all lines I select which are say less than 0.5m in length with a block at the lines.

I have a block definition with several attributes. I would like to pick a (predefined) value for each of the attribute. Making just one block properties table means that I need to fill all the possible combinations of these attributes.
I am trying to add text to a set of text strings in a drawing.
The tricky part is that not all of the text strings are the same.
For example, change part numbers
123, 125, 456, 892
to
123-70, 125-70, 456-70, 892-70
Is there a way to do this for all of the strings at once?
Is there a way when finding and replacing a text string to style the block of copy. My problem is that I have some color codes given by the customer that now need to be converted to our internal color matches on our production drawings.
The original string of text looks like this:
Holder: P1 (Metallic Silver)
What I’m getting when I go to replace this string is:
Holder: Natural Satin
What I want is:
Holder: Natural Satin
I do not want the replaced text to be italicized. I'm thinking since the original string ends with an italic style that the replacement string is also italicized. There are about 50 pages of drawings with about 10 colors on the job and some pages have them entered in more than one place. So that's a minimum of 500 entries and defititely more considereing the multiple places these are called out. I'd really rather not have to copy and paste all of these by hand. I'm use to FreeHand, which would respect the font styling of pasted text in the find and replace diaglog.
Is it possible, via whatever methods (lisp?) to be able to have a premade block with an attribute and insert it into a drawing then assign a value to it by selecting another existing block in the drawing and using one of its own attribute’s values?
For example, say I have a block representing a telephone and it had an attribute called "PhoneNo" and I inserted it into a drawing showing an office floor plan that had blocks in each office space that are telephone junction boxes with attributes "PhoneExtension". I would like to be able to autocomplete the entering of the “PhoneNo” data by selecting one of the telephone junction boxes in the drawing and using its attribute’s value.
I have created a dynamic block with a stretch, flip and rotate. Everything works great in its file. When I insert it in another file, the grips move but the block does not change.

We have a title block and border which is used in MS. If this is referenced using AMTITLE then it acts as expected. We issue these to some external people to create our drawings but they have been using CTRL-C and V to place them in a new drawing. ACAD does now not see them as a Title block or border but as blocks. We have a process to bring DWG's into SAP and this will check for a title block and border.
The issue is we need to fix these drawings and currently this means removing the borders and title blocks and placing new ones then adding all the attributes again. Is there a way to convert the blocks back to how they should be?

I have a block (room info) that has five line os text with attributes that display grips which allow them to be moved in whatever drawing I put them in. Within that block there is a little polyline that is the square with a dash through it to represent sq. ft. that I made into a seperate block ( sq ft tick). The room info block part of it works great in all my drawings, but the darn sq ft tick block within the room info block won't budge! I have tried giving it a seperate insertion point and giving that block its own attribute, but no luck.
Is there any way to have a block within a block that has the same ability to move around as the other elements?
Is there any way not to show a particular block in block definition table ? My program bring a block into drawing thru a user form . And set some Xdata to it after insertion . If user bring the block manually into drawing then how would we know which one has xdata and which one doesn't. I came to this solution to hide it in block definition list.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a piece of machinery with a platform around it. Right now, I have it set up where, you bring in the block on a -proposed layer, and then you can change it to a -existing layer, and everything changes to that new layer's colors (elements on 0 and bylayer).
However, what I would like to have happen is, inside that same block, I would like for the platform to change from a different color to a different color when the machine does.
So... the entire block (machine + platform) is on a layer - machine-pro. I bring it in, and everything is blue (for proposed). When I switch it to the machine-existing layer, it changes to a dark blue. I know I can have the platform be red and the machine blue, but when I switch the machine over to the existing (dark blue) the platform would still be red (because its set as a "hard" color other than by layer).
Is there a way to make the platform turn to a dark red (existing) from the bright red (proposed) when the machine turns to a dark blue (existing) from bright blue (proposed), but it all be in one block?
How can i add Blocks Library to Acad2012 like in the older versions and see them by clicking any button as icons menue.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have created a drawing border block for my users to insert into their drawings. Within the block there are dynamic blocks which have visibilty states. However when you insert the border block with the dynamic ones you can't do anything with them? Is there anyway of making the border 'flexible' or something so that it maintains the fact that it is a block with all the attributes but you can use the embedded dynamic ones. Other than the obvious edit block in place or block editor?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue purging a block from my drawing. Here are the steps I have taken:
-I first used the qselect command to select the block(s), there were 4 in the drawing.
-Then I erased all four of them
- I tried to purge the block but it was not showing up in the unreferenced block list.
- I went back into the qselect to find the block to see if there were any more, and the block did not even show up on the list
- I then tried to edit the block using bedit. After closing the block editor it told me that there were still 4 block references. This had me confused because I had already deleted the the four existing blockreferences from the drawing??
- I then tried to rename using the rename command and then attempt to delete it, and no luck.
I do not know what to do at this point.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have drawn a simple block that I want to stretch in two directions manually or from the properties palatte.
My block works fine once and then breaks down. Stretch the block in the 'Y' direction. Deselect the block. Stretch the block again and only the grip moves. Edit the block and close the block, the block resets.
I'm trying to do a block wall in section, with the block as a rectangle with an associative hatch that will stretch to the height of the wall, the mortar joint then as a seperate element with a wipeout which will then array at 225mm centres.
I get the stretch working fine and the array working, but it will only display at greater than whole multiples of the array, which is a bit silly in a block wall. If I have a wall with a UK standard 225mm high block, I would have a joint at the bottom, then another at +225mm, not what I am getting which is a joint at the bottom but then the 225mm joint only appears when the wall is >450mm high.
I had thought chaining a linear parameter with an increment setting, to a linear parameter with a stretch setting, would work, but it doesn't.
I'm following this tutorial, trying to create a field in a dynamic block to show the length of a line. If I have the attribute's "constant" value checked, the field shows up in my drawing as "Length: ######." However, when I uncheck the "constant" checkbox, the field doesn't show up at all, even after I run "UPDATEFIELD" and "REGEN."
I'm using AutoCAD Mechanical 2009, SP2.
I'm fairly new to using annotative objects, and I am having a lot of trouble with blocks and annotative multileaders.
I made a custom block (_ValveCallout) to be used in an annotative multileader, which was working perfectly, until I needed to edit the block I was using in the multileader. After I redefined the block, the attributes in the block seem to be displayed at the wrong scale, and the border around them isn't even showing at all. I have to redraw every multileader if I have to make a change to the block.
I have a simple block, I would like to do the following:
Type: Insert
Specify: Block Name
Click spot with cursor to have the block placed
Rotate the block for orientation
I know that if I use the Tool Pallets I can specify rotate on insert, but do not always want to use the Pallete. I also know I can assign a rotation parameter to the block so I can grip and rotate after insertion. Is there an easier way?
I am trying to create a dynamic block that allows me to insert a single rack into a drawing and make a single row of racking with all racks staying 9'-0" center of post to center of post. Also would like to be able to turn that one single row into a double row that spacing between rows can be modified. I have attached a cad file showing a single rack and two example, one of a row of double racks and one of a single row of racks. This rack is 48" deep i will also have to create this for a 60' deep rack so how i can create future rack sizes and rows.

I'm making a dynamic block for my users who aren't familiar with electrical wiring so I am developing a series of blocks for our typical wiring configurations. In this instance, I've setup a pair of attributes to allow the changing of wire color codes and I want to use that single attribute entry to used in multiple other locations that are also connected to that conductor in certain situations. I have setup a field within this block to be the "VALUE" of the object (the attribute) in order to accomplish this. Unfortunately it is only displaying the default value I have for the attribute and will not update either upon insertion of the block or after an edit. Is this beyond the capabilities of Dynamic blocks or do I need to take a different approach?
