AutoCAD 2010 :: Multiple Sessions - Taskbar And Windows 7

Feb 10, 2011

We recently upgraded to Windows 7.  Now when we open multiple drawings, each drawing is displayed individaully in the taskbar.  This created problems for us when wanting to ALT+TAB through open programs; the drawings would be available for selection and get in the way.  I thought multiple sessions of the program were opening.  It reminded me of older versions of ACAD where you could select (Options>Open & Save, I think) whether ACAD opened additional drawings in the same session or in multiple sessions.  That option no longer exists, and I have been surching for the solution off-and-on for the last 4 months.  The following post lead me to the solution although they were orginally asking to do the opposite.  This post has too many entries (2 pages, who looks at a second page?) and is full of bickering, so I decided to post a separate comment. URL.....

The post below explains the solution quite well. URL....Windows 7 switched the default assuming most people would rather have the ability to hover and see a preview.  Maybe that's true but I am not one of them.  The reason it took me so long to find the answer is because I was always referencing "Multiple Sessions" and not searching for "Taskbar" solutions.

As a side note, in all my searching, the most common solution offered was changing the SDI variable.  I believe, 9 times out 10, if not more, the SDI variable had nothing to do with what the problems were, yet it was always suggested.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Windows 7 Taskbar Switch

May 13, 2010

We are having the issue with all of our Windows 7 machines that you cant switch back to Autocad using the Windows 7 taskbar. When this happened with 2010 we chalked it up to 2010 not being compliant with the new taskbar in windows. But when it started happening with our Acad 2011 installs it gets frustrating. Alt Tab doesn't work. Hover and select a preview window doesn't work. The only thing that works is starting task manager and clicking 'Switch to'.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Minimize Windows From Maximize To Taskbar

Feb 16, 2011

1. had this problem for sometime. running windows 7. When i minimize my autocad window from maximise to the taskbar, for some reason when i click it on the taskbar to bring it back up, it has shrunk to its restore down size instead of the maximised window it was. This problem seems to only occur on win7. I don't have my windows aero themes off as i know of those problems, whats causing this one?!

2. whats also annoying in windows 7 is that i choose not to have my taskbar buttons combined, i am only in one session of autocad yet each drawing has its own taskbar button, is this normal?!

what switch is it that needs to be changed so that when one opens up multiple drawings, they aren't sitting in the taskbar? Normally, you go to your 'Window' in the menubar to see your populated list.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Multiple Instances / Sessions

Feb 28, 2011

How do I prevent Inventor from opening files in new Inventor sessions?

If I try to open a file from Windows Explorer or from an email attachment, it opens it up in a brand new Inventor session, even if I already have Inventor open.

If I select two or three files in Windows Explorer or from an attachment to open, it opens them all in individual new Inventor sessions.

I would like to set Inventor (or Windows) so that these files open in the already existing session or at least the same session as each other. I didn't have this problem before upgrading to a new computer and reinstalling.

AutoCAD Architecture :: 2008 - Opening Multiple Sessions Instead Of One

Nov 12, 2013

I've been looking through old threads on here that all seem to date back to 2008 for this same problem I'm having, but the way to fix them only seems to work for Windows XP and I'm currently on Windows 7.

Problem:

I'll have a session of ACA 2008 running and if I double click on another dwg file it starts up another session of ACA instead of opening within the current session I'm already running.  My SDI setting = 0.  I tried switching it to 1 and that didn't work.  Put it back to 0 and still didn't change anything.

One of the older threads on here [URL] .... says to go in to windows explorer/ tools / folder options, but that set up is different now in Windows 7 than it was in XP so I can't get to Files Tab and change anything for dwg.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Multiple Instances / Sessions When Opening From Vault?

Jul 22, 2009

So a quick search came up with "don't open from the Vault; open from within Inventor."

Lets not have that arguement.

My office just upgraded from Inventor 2009 to Inventor 2010. 3 seats, all installed the same way. When the other two users open something from the Vault, and then open a 2nd file (be it a drawing/part/assembly), it opens as a new window within the same Inventor session. (Just like it used to in .../2008/2009).

When I open from the Vault, it starts a new session of Inventor. This is frustrating, when you have an assembly open, modify a bunch of components, and then want to open their respective drawings to update them... the drawings will open in new sessions when opened from the Vault.

Obviously I've got something changed somewhere. Quick search through the Inventor options came up with nothing. Vault options?

Please don't tell me to start opening files from inside Inventor... that's a waste of my time... and everything has worked fine until this fresh install of 2010.

Photoshop :: CS4: Windows Taskbar Missing In The...

Aug 15, 2009

I switched from CS3 to CS4 and realized that when I turn on the screen mode called "Full Screen with Menu Bar" it actually switches off the windows task bar. It is actually crucial to me, as I am really used to drag the document with a hand tool without boundaries, which was always achievable once pressing "F". In that mode, I could still use the taskbar to navigate to other windows (and see notifications from the taskbar). Now, in CS4, the combination of nice document dragging and taskbar is impossible.

CorelDRAW X6 :: Crashes When Switching Programs On Windows 7 Taskbar

Jun 27, 2012

I've had a couple occurrences of X6 crashing suddenly, but a common one is when I've switched away from X6 and then try to switch back by clicking on the X6 icon on the Windows 7 taskbar.  I'm running Win7 64bit.  When I hover my mouse over the CDX6 icon on the taskbar, a couple of the preview mini-windows will show the Windows "working" round rotating icon for about a half second and then BAM - the windows "This Program is Not Responding" window comes up where you choose to either let windows find a solution (it never does), or just close the program.

I never have any trouble opening the program back up, or working with the exact same files that were open when it crashed.  It does seem to happen when I have multiple files open, but I almost always am working with 3-4 at a time.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Open Multiple Drawings Using One Window Only In Windows 7

Jul 6, 2011

why Autocad 2012 opens one window per drawing as opposed to Autocad 2007/2008 opening one window for as many drawings as you have open.  (I also don't care to group/ungroup similar programs through Windows 7.)  This must be an Autocad 2012 program default that I can't figure out to change.

Machine Specs:

Dell Optiplex 990

Photoshop :: Why Does CS6 Recover Large Files That Were Properly Closed In Previous Sessions

Nov 23, 2012

I'm always fighting memory problems with Photoshop CS6, which I work in for 5 to 8 hours every day.  I have a 27" iMac with a 3.4GHz i7 processor, 32GB of RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 2GB Ram and over 1.5TB of available scratch disk space.  After working thru a couple of large images I have to start monitoring RAM use via Activity Monitor and reclaiming RAM via Terminal very often in order to continue working.

I believe something strange is happening in the background because very often, when I start a new session, PS "recovers" a "large format document"... one that was properly closed in a previous session, and one that I have not asked PS to open.  I feel like my whole memory usage issue is tied to the system somehow holding onto those "large format documents".

The only changes since these started was a new wireless mouse (Microsoft) and loading Adobe Acrobat Standard (latest version) on the machine. We did both of those a few weeks ago and the problems have started after that.

i'm trying to create a routine, where i can select multiple windows in modelspace, and the plot a multisheet pdf.but I'm having trouble to create multiple pages, it only generates 1 page

I have modified sourcecode from Kean Walmsley:

- this routine creates a single-page pdf with only the last selected window.

- the pc3-file I use is able to create multisheets because the original routine with paperspace works fine

- I think it has maybe something to do with the pi.Layout = lo.Id ?

AutoCAD LT :: Open Multiple Drawings In Separate Windows?

Currently when I open up multiple drawings (opening them up one at a time) they all appear in the same window (one instance) of AutoCAD.

I want each drawing to open in separate instances so I can view them on separate monitors (and close one without being asked to close them all).

I have tried changing the SDI system variable from 0 and 1 (and vise-versa)

I have tried changing the windows default program from AutoCAD Application to AutoCAD Launcher (and vise-versa)

I have set the TASKBAR system variable at both 0 and 1 (and vise-versa)

AutoCAD Architecture :: Multiple Open Windows Don't Retain Relative Ordering In 2014

Jun 13, 2013

My problem is similar to the "send behind"/"bring to front" commands that you use when you're drawing.  But my issue is this: what wastes a lot of time for me in the new program is when I try to work in multiple windows at once.  (Btw, we don't have large screens to work with here.)  Usually what I'll do is have, say, three or four windows up at a time, none of which are maximized, and usually have two that I'm working on side by side, with the remaining one or two sitting in the background.  I also keep a lot of windows active, and minimized, so that's not the answer I'm trying to find.  I work mostly in model space if that makes any difference, though I don't think it should.

Now, not only do the borders of each of my windows get all sorts of funky screen images on them when I move them around (mildly amusing but not annoying), but what really grinds my gears is that the orientation, or layering, or what-have-you, of the windows that I have active and open in the background is not retained.  Let's say I have X-1 and A-1 up front and center, and I have A-3 and A-4 in the background.  Let's say I had moved A-3 to sit on top of A-4 before I started working on the X-1 and A-1 sheets.  Now, in the 2013 version, if I'd slide X-1 or A-1 out of the way, I'd see A-3 sitting right there on top, all happy and pretty where I left it.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Cannot Insert PDF In Windows 7

Apr 25, 2012

We have installed 35 AutoCAD 2010 on several computers. Some of these machines use Windows XP 32 bit and some are Windows 7 64 bit. We noticed few issues in both OS but here is one important one.On Windows XP user can insert a PDF file into a Cad file - Insert>Raster Image Reference then select the file type as adobe PDF.

Doing the same thing in Windows 7 wont insert a PDF file. The file type is set to "All image files". We type * as a file name and select a PDF file to insert. Result is an error window pop up saying "The file cannot be opened. The problem can be caused by several things:

-The data in the file is corrupted
-The file is an earlier format that is no longer supported
-The file format is not supported

Since the same version of AutoCAD on Windows XP inserts the same PDF file the none of these causes can be true. Why AutoCAD on windows 7 will not insert a PDF file?

With the new Windows 7, the AutoCAD header is transparent.

When other programs are behind AutoCAD, their light colored headers make it impossible to see the full path of my drawing files.

I can't just look and see which drawing file I am in.

I have to move a mouse and click somewhere.

Is there any way to make the headers opaque?

Photoshop :: Multiple Windows In CS6

Mar 21, 2013

I recently installed CS6 on my computer at work, and I have only had problems with Photoshop.

1. I open two different files in Photoshop, therefore multiple windows are open in Photoshop, so that I can copy and paste from one file to the other. However, both windows display the same info and show that the files are identical when they most definitely are not. Objects and text then start jumping back and forth until I am back to the original window and do not have any others open.

2. When I move objects, it is delayed. For example, I move an object 3 spaces over, but it only moves 2 times until I click off of the object and then it completes the third move.
