AutoCAD 2010 :: Linetype Scales And Display?
Aug 12, 2013
How do I set up a dwt so that linetypes appear the same no matter what the scale of the viewport. I tried AutoCad help but the recommended fix if I am reading it correctly is psltscale set to 1. That didnt work. We normally set our ltscale to 0.5. Should the scale of linetypes be controlled by the scale of the viewport? Isnt the scale of the viewport supposed to be multiplied by the ltscale so that the linetypes always appear the same no matter what the veiwport scale?

Trying to set a Phantom line as the property line and also use dashed lines (ACAD_ISO03w100)
I can mess with the ltscale and make it so one or the other reads properly, but never both. The Phantom displays correctly at ltscale: 1, the dashed lines display when ltscale is .1 they are on different layers

I am using Map 3D 2013
I have several drawings in which I want to use a line type (centrex2) at a specific scale. The scale setting is exactly the same in all the drawings but in some the line type is coming out at different scales, all larger, but not the same or to a set factor. All the entities in question are poly lines (2d).
I have checked in all drawings that:
global scale factor and current object scale in the line type manager are the same (1.0)drawing units are the same (unitless)‘use paper space units for scaling’ is always deselected line type generation is always enabled.

We deal with multiple architects at our company, all of whom have different standards for their Linetype Scales (on a drawing at a scale of 1/8"=1'-0" some use 36, others 24 etc).
We need to take their Architectural drawings, remove all of there dimension notes etc and create an empty floor plan we put our designs on.
The issue is that we cannot have all of our symbols work with one consistent linetype. We have to go into the block and manually overide the LTS of the individual item to suite the LTS of the architects drawing.
Is there a way we can insert the architect background as an x-ref and have the LTS of our drawing not effect it? Or possibly a LISP/Script that divides the individual LTS of all their entities by their global LTS so everything looks fine in our drawings.
We have had issues with annotative objects in the past with some of the architects drawings so that is not a viable option.

My linetypes show up way too big in my viewports at 1/8" scale as compared to my Model space. pslt and mslt both at 1, units are inches, global linetype scale at 80. What am I missing?

When I draw say a dashed line in the model space it sometimes looks broken exactly how I would expect it to look. Yet when I then set the drawing up in a viewport within the paper space it looks like a continuous line. It also plots as a continuous line.
The only way I have found of working around this is to change the linetype scale of the line in question (usually to around 0.012) this then usually gets the line to display dashed as expected on the paper space. It is very trial and error though with different lines requiring different scales?
I wondered if there is a setting so that they display in the model space exactly as they would display in the paper space or vice versa?

I’ve got a series of third party drawings that are quite intricate, with a series of nested blocks, some of which cannot be exploded.
The issue i have is that they have been drawn with a global scale factor of 1. Our office works with a global scale factor of 10.
Is there a quick and easy way to make the global scale factor 10, but then somehow retain the scale of the third party drawing lines so they retain their look?
Trying to avoid either just drawing with a global scale factor of 1 (which is a pain as all our blocks are set up for global scale factor of 10) or going into each of the bound xrefs and making all line scales 0.1 (mammoth task given the amount of drawings and all the nested/unexplodable blocks).

I made a custom line type called EX (for existing pipes) which looks a little bit like this: - - - EX - - - EX - - - EX - - -
Line works great when I draw from left to right. However, when I draw a line from RIGHT to LEFT, the text displays upside down a little bit like this: - - - X3 - - - X3 - - - X3 - - - ("3" representing the mirror image of "E")
Same applies when drawing from bottom to top, or top to bottom. I totally understand the behavior here, and TBH I think it's OK it behaves that way.
Let's say I'm drawing existing water pipes going in all directions with a polyline. Is there a way to make the text display upward no matter what direction the pline is going?

I have a question about printing an autocad drawing. Currently I have two drawings on the model tab. I have drawn them both 1:1.
Now I need to print them both out on a same A3 paper, with different scales. The other one will be printed in 1:100 and the other in 1:50.
I have drawn a pretty good amount on autocad but this is my first time printing/plotting.

I have several drawings and which have different scales (1:50, 1:20 and 1:10) all in one dwg file. I made different .ctb files for each of them to make easier to interchange drawings between two different scales. But now I'm plotting each of them onto seperated rolls. I wonder if there is a way to plot all of them onto just one roll?

Drawing size on an A4 at different scales,The A4 can have a drawing size up to 29.7x21 meters when printing with a scale of 1/100 while it can have up to 14.8x105 meters when printing with a scale of 1/500.
Does this mean that we need to have different title blocks each time we print in an A4 paper size with different scale?

create a code to add scales to the scale’s list?
I just want to have the necessary scales, so don’t want to add to the template.
The command function is basically to allow me type the value of the scale and based on that, adjust the properties of the scale. (Name appearing in scale list - Paper Milimeters - Drawing Meters)
Example:
>Command line: setscale
>type the value of the scale to create: 50
set 1:50 to default

Any way to build or download a linetype that can display as a thick dashed line surrounded by 2 parallel lines on either side of it?
We use them to denote underground stormwater pipes in our survey models.
Currently I need to manually set each line to a polyline, give it a global width, and then draw a DLINE of the same width from endpoint to endpoint. The down side is that not only is it laborious, I also have to set the Z values to zero, so we lose the elevation feature of the pipe in the model.
Ideally it would need to have enough functionality to alter the spacing of the dashes, and the width of the line.

We are using in the office annotative blocks with text attributes.
When changing the display annotation scale, the attributes go normally, at the beginning, all back to 0,0,0 point; what we solve by using ATTSYNC command, and works fine; they go back to correct size and location.
But, for some reason in some computers, when closing and saving the file, and opening it again next day, all the attributes, at the same display scale than the day before, are all wrong size and location.
I have tried to uninstall the whole program and install it again from zero, and the same problem persists. What can I do?

I have determined that an AutoCAD drawing has the unfortunate ability to have Annotation Scales "hard coded", meaning they CANNOT be removed from the drawing.
Let me explain....
In a detail drawing file (i.e. my master drawing file where I keep all of our standard details), I was getting duplicate Annotation Scales. I would try to use the SCALELISTEDIT command to try and delete the anno scales not being used, but it would appear they WERE being used. (and resetting the anno scales didn't work either)
I was using a combination of tricks to determine WHICH annotation objects were using the duplicate anno scales. I would set ANNOALLVISIBLE to 0 and set the CANNOSCALE to the duplicate anno style to see where they were being used with no luck
I would then use the QSELECT command to group select each type of annotation object that were annotative, and check to see if they were using the duplicate scales. Again, no luck
THEN, I decided to cut-n-paste each detail one-at-a-time from my master drawing file to a new BLANK drawing with only one annotation scale in it (i.e. 1:1). I would paste a detail, and then enter the SCALELISTEDIT command to see which anno scales "came along for the ride". I pasted a particular detail that carried over the duplicate anno scales, but when I checked all of the annotation objects for the duplicate anno scales - NOTHING! I then deleted that particular detail, purged it, and then I was able to delete the duplicate anno scales. But no matter what I did to try and fix that detail (i.e. wblock, cut-n-paste, save-down, etc) the duplicate anno scales simply will NOT be allowed to be deleted even though i cannot find any objects associated with them.

Is it possible to creat a linetype that doesn't repeat.
What I'm after is a line consisting of:
Long Line
Space
Short Line (roughly 1/3 length of long line)
Space
Long Line
( ______ __ ______ )
But that is all I want to see, regardless of the distance between the start and end points. I use this a lot for laying out joists.
I know I could make a dynamic block of it, but that would mean streaching every line between the two points.

I am wanting a soultion to a problem I am having when trying to have a combination of linetypes I either want psltscaled or not in a view port.
I.e. I want services linetypes to use psltscale = 1 and I want my linemarking linetypes to use a psltscale = 0, as I need the linemarking linetypes to show in the viewport at the original size they were created at but not the services linetypes as they look horrible.

I have an file where the linetype of a line will modify on print. The linetype will only 'move' when the endpoint of the line is outside the viewport.
I have attached a pdf to show what is happening along with the drawing file.
Another interesting thing is that when I change thickness of the linetype, it also moves.
I have tried recreating the polyline, reversing the polyline direction, auditing the drawing, but nothing.

How to compile a "master" .shp file that would include the coding for all of my shape files for custom linetypes. I did this years ago for a specific set of linetypes but I can not remember how I did it.
I know ACAD has the linetype.shp file that includes coding for ACAD supplied custom linetypes.
I think I remember inserting all of the shapes into a drawing and somehow compiling the *.shp file. Is that how it is done?

I work very closely with a customer, and have been asked to implement their drafting standards for a dwg file they received from another vendor. I have attached two drawings, 1 (their vendor's) and 2 (mine, in progress). When opened, I notice the linetype scale *appears* different between the drawings (note the differences within "LINE LEGEND" section of both drawings). It *appears* as though Drawing 2 has double the linetype scale of Drawing 1.
I realize that within Drawing 2 I could set the LTSCALE variable to 0.5, but that seems like a work-around and may cause problems with other aspects of the customer's drafting standards in the future.
I've already confirmed that both drawings have the same values for LTSCALE, PSLTSCALE, MSLTSCALE, CELTSCALE. I've also already confirmed that, for the "PACKAGED EQUIPMENT" entry with the legend, the properties dialog box shows the exact same values for all fields. Lastly, (trying [URL] .....) I re-loaded the linetype for PHANTOM2.
I'd like to have them both appear the same, if possible.

I'm trying to set the plot styles to use specific linetypes for given colors. The theory is that using adaptive linetypes, then lines that are color 50 for example will always display dashed regardless of the length. This seems to work great, except that I'm not happy with the linetype scale (dashes plot too long). Obviously changing linetypescale does not work because adaptive is turned on. So the only solution I could think of was to change the actual linetype definition, but the acad.lin file does not seem to be related to the linetypes shown in the CTB editor (or is it?). How to change the linetype definitions that are linked to the ctb style?
