I need to take 3d objects, in this case fabric foils and flatten them so I can plot them on a table. Are there any plug-ins out there for use with Autocad 2012, or other third party software?
View 8 RepliesI am working on a design project for a class i am in, i need to make a model of the design solution i come up with. since my design has curved walls, how to take my AutoCad model and convert the faces to something where i could print them out on paper and make the model. I need to basically unroll them as if i was flattening them on a sheet of paper. i have tried flatshot and flatten, my difficulty with these is that it does not take the entire object length along the curve, it will only take the distance that can be seen on the screen. I know this is possible with 3ds max as a friend of mine did it that way, but i don't know how to use 3ds max so that doesnt work for me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an issue when using the DWG to PDF plotter built into AutoCAD 2011. It started when I would generate PDFs from AutoCAD and then try printing them to our office printer for a hard copy. I kept getting the "flattening" bar popping up which caused a set of 20 drawings to take 30 mins to print. Where other PDF generators the drawings shoot out of the printer ASAP. And in a busy office likes mine, tying up a printer for that long is kind of frowned upon. But they didn't solve my flattening issue. I tweaked the "Merge Control" as most of the posts mention along with turning off "layers in PDF" as well. My PDFs are still flattening. All my drawings are 2D...no 3D information.
And now I've noticed after changing the "Merge Control" and "Layer Display" in my pc3 file, it is putting black boxes on text that have a background mask...not a wipeout. I know there have been issues in the past with PDFs and wipeouts...but in my case it's the background mask function. I've even tried using a 255,255,255 colour for my background mask colour (instead of my default "background colour") and that didn't work. And the other weird thing is that it's not blacking out all text with background masks. On one drawing it'll be blacked out and in the next, the exact same piece of text will be fine. It's even only blacking out portions of lines of text. Completely random!
I've been working on a map that contains a number of standard AutoCAD objects, as well as three sets of FDO objects. All FDO items are SDF's. If it makes a difference, 2 of the FDO sets are points, and the third is lines. All of the FDO items are styled fairly extensively, but there are no labels.
When I try to print to a regular plotter, it just spools up for a half hour or so, then I get a message from the system that the plot has failed. For whatever reason, I never get an actual CAD error message when this happens. When I try to print to PDF using the on-board DWG -> PDF driver, I get a pdf with every drawing object smeared accross the bottom of the print - it's completely un-useable. I'm currently trying to print using a 3rd party PDF driver (Cute PDF). It almost crashed my system, but now I am looking at a print file that has spooled up to 2.5 GB! The actual drawing file is a bit under 10 Mb in size, so I don't know where this huge plot spool is coming from.
I'm using Map3D 2010 on a Windows XP machine with the max (4GB) of ram.
I'd like to know how to align an object in model space with the edge of my viewport in paperspace.
When I draw, I like to lay out multiple complete drawings in model space, make an appropriately scaled bounding box around them, and then snap a view port to the bounding box in my layout. I usually have multiple drawings lined up in a row in modelspace, so when I want a new layout I do a Save As and then pan around in my viewport to find the next bounding box, at which point I have to resize the viewport to get it to snap to the edges nicely. I really want to be able to to it the otehr way around- while panning I'd like to be able to grab a corner of my modelspace bouding box and snap it to the the corresponding corner of my viewport window. That way making new layouts would be a snap. Is there a way to do this in AutoCAD 2012 LT?
I'am a quite expert Autocad user, but I have now a version wich seems to have some problem in plotting using Monochrome.ctb or Grayscale.ctb
If I choose one (It's the same problem with both), all the coloured layer in the layout visualization become black of course, but if I preview or I print it, the pdf created has all layer's colours.
of course the PLOT WITH PLOT STYLES box is checked.
when i try to plot a layout or modelspace with a pdf xref'ed into it, to a new pdf, the resulting pdf is illegible - first off it becomes rasterized even though it's a vector document produced from word, and secondly it is extremely low quality. I have looked far and wide for settings that might work with this but I have come up empty -

Black goes to a smoke grey color, lines dont show up, and the red is blurry. I need this to be fixed but I just dont have the skill to do it. And stupid autocad doesnt have a contact number for step by step instructions with an actual human! Im trying to use the logo for a T-shirt but it seems like I cannot for the life of me print a suitable digital image for it. I am using AutoCad ARCH 12...

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen plotting some files to pdf using the "dwg to pdf" as well as the "adobe pdf" some of the lines show two different lineweights. Some of the text displays two lineweights as well. It does not seem to happen with all drawings. The adobe version is better than the dwg to pdf but still not as good as plotting directly to the plotter from acad.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a drawing and when I go to plot the drawing the border on 2 sides get s cut off. I preview and all looks right, but the hard-copy has the borders cut off. Is this a cad setting or a printer issue (other programs work fine and PDFs of drawings are good to).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have checked every setting and have even redrawn the file where the error occurs. We send out for prints to a printing company as we do not have a plotter so I need to fix this. When the file is converted to a pdf. the "sand hatch" seems to be printing at an inconsistant lineweight all within the same section. This error occurs when printing from a DWG to export to an Adobe PDF. The hatch is all on the same layer same settings and drawn in the same action period. it makes no sense why it would change when all the settings are exactly the same.
I have also tried drawing them on a new layer i created matching the same layer settings and it still converts inconsistant in the same two areas. I have completely erased that section of drawing and redrew it not changing out of any tools or settings and it just keeps doing it. I have also tried checking all the pdf settings and tried plotting it different ways and it wont dissapear. The only time it does not show up is when i export a window shot directly from model space.
But i need to print it from paperspace and this is where the error occurs. It almost seems as though the export is not processing the drawing corretly as it is converting the drawing but i dont know how to fix it. I first noticed the problem when i recieved the prints back from the printer as you can clearly see the hatch appears thicker and darker in two sections along the same hatch. I then looked at the pdf and it appeared fine, but as i zoomed in on the pdf up to 300% that is when you notice the change.
So we have started some work overseas and I have been trying to make sense of the metric units in CAD. Metric units in general, make way more sense then imperial units but how they work in CAD has been confusing.
I am familiar with the UNITS command and have changed the drawing units to "decimal" and the insertion units to "unitless"
I know that when you draw a 1 unit line in model space it could represent a 1 millimeter line or a 1 meter line and that it is up to the drafter to decide what it will be. I also am familiar with setting up dim styles to dimension correctly based off of whether you are drawing in meters or millimeters.
I have set my Adobe pdf printer to A1 23.4" X 33.1" (594mm x 841mm). when I draw a 1 unit line in paper space and print the layout the 1 unit line measures 1 inch?
I am having a problem with pltting files to pdf that contain a pdf underlay. When I do this, the pdf underlay part comes out fuzzy and unreadable. If I plot to paper, everything is fine.
I am using the standard pdf plotter and my own ctb file. Autocad 2012 and Adobe Acrobat x standard.
I didn't have this issue at my last employment with autocad c3d 2010 and acrobat 9 pro
I am having issues batch plotting in LT 2010.
I am using Windows Vista.
I go to the batch plot. Load the drawings I want to plot. I then load the page setup I want to use. None of the files plot. The error says that the device doesn't support the output size.
The weird thing is that I can plot using those same page setups individual files, just not as a batch.
I have a drawing that has xref's that some of the xref do not plot.
Import the xref it will not plot.
Insert the xref and explosed it and it will not plot.
I have check the layers that everything is on and they are set right to plot.
Never ran into these problem before working 20 years this Autodesk.
I need to be able to import the airfoil geometry of a NACA 2412 airfoil. I know how to get the XY coordinates but I don't know how to import these points (as a .txt file?) into ACAD. What function would I use? Spline? If so how do I get it to draw all the points I have? I need to then extrude the shape to be able to mill airfoil sections...that part I can figure out....just need to import the points to get a nice curve.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI usually make pdf's by plotting each layout to pdf then combining them with adobe acrobat. Recently i have tried the batch plot to pdf and found that i like it much better but im having a problem with it. I have set up my page sheet manager and have imported my plot sheet settings from a different file. I have checked and double checked that the settings on this file is correct.
My problem is that when i create the batch plot and select the page setup when i create the pdf it cut the left and right side of the page off like there are margins or something. I have created a pdf my plotting to pdf on an individual page and printed it and compared to my batch plot and they are the same scale and size on the paper but the batch plot cuts it off on the sides. I need to get it to print like the plot to pdf so that it is to scale.
I recently upgraded from ACAD 2004 to ACAD 2012. In ACAD 2004, plotting was extremely quick. In ACAD 2012, plotting seems to be extremely slow. A basic drawing in 2004 plotted as a pdf file using CUTE PDF or PDF Creator would take about 5-10 seconds. In ACAD 2012, a similar file using the same CUTE PDF or PDF Creator will take up to 2-3 minutes. Not a long time but when you are plotting a dwg set that has up to 10 tabs in it, it takes 20-30 minutes just to plot. Is there any way to speed up the plotting in ACAD 2012? I have both ACAD 2004 and ACAD 2012 loaded on the same computer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy company just got new computers, I've loaded 2012 SP1 and our lisp comands on every machine. After a plot, when someone goes to save and close the drawing, AutoCAD crashes. It does not matter which plot device is used, the result is the same. This includes the plot devices included in AutoCAD. I have reinstalled autocad on one machine, no lisp commands, same result. I have already tried some of the fixes proposed in other threads, nothing has worked.

While batch plotting to a multi page PDF in AutoCad 2012 using Adobe Acrobat:
My pages come out with a blank / empty viewport,
The title block is on the page and nothing else plots on the page.
This is only happening with one of the files I am working in. Other DWGs are PDFing normal.
How to make the pdf's clearer better quality?
When i try plotting to dwg to pdf using dwg to pdf.pc3 plotter, the pdf's is bad quality, text is unclear in some areas and lines is "out of focus".
I have tried recreating the pc3 file with no luck.
In the plot dialog box the options Plot paperspace last and Hide paperspace objects are only supposed to be available in Paperspace however they show up as checked in some of our drawings when plotting from Modelspace. They should be greyed out then. (see attached) If I copy/paste all objects into a new drawing everything is fine. If I delete all layout tabs the options are still checked when plotting in model space.
The only thing I can figure is there are paperspace entities in my model space or that somehow paperspace is leaking through into modelspace.
I have a tif background that shows up in my pdf plot preview, but it will not actually print. All I get is a pdf showing the linework. I've recently switched from 2008 to 2010 and am wondering if that has anything to do with it as I had no problems in the past? While the tif file is large, it always plotted in 2008.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble with plotting out my drawing. The border comes out fine, the text comes out fine, when I draw something manually it comes out fine, however, any item that is a block on the drawing comes out extremely light.
It's not 'xdwgfadectrl' I've tried that, it's set to zero. All the transparencies are set to zero, and it's not just on one drawing, but a few drawings. I have tried multiple ctb files, assuming one wasn't working right, but that didn't work.
It is something that is affecting the blocks alone, causing them to print out extremely light.
When I go into block editor, the actual lines of the block are on layer zero, but I don't think that would affect anything, plus,layer zero isn't set to any type of transparency or fade.
Is there a way to plot a color point cloud (PCG) in color in a viewport in paperspace? I can't seem to figure it out if there is.
