AutoCAD 2010 :: Dynamic / Annotative Blocks

Oct 28, 2013

When I worked for my previous firm, they had a library full or blocks that would change scale by picking from a small pull down menu on the block itself.  I could automatically change a section of a 4" CMU to an 8" CMU just by picking from the options.  I am trying to create some of those now.  Are those dynamic or annotative blocks.  What is the parameter I would use.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Annotative Parameters Inside Dynamic Blocks

May 5, 2010

I've made annotative blocks and I've made dynamic blocks... My intent is to integrate both but I can't find a way to move dynamic block parameters separately at different annotative scales.

In other words, if I insert an annotative dimension and add multiple scales I can move the dimension grips independently at each scale. If I insert a dynamic block I want to be able to use the dynamic block's action "grips" to do the same. However, with a dynamic block, if I move a stretch action at one annotation scale it moves the action at all annotation scales.

The attached file shows a simple example.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Annotative Blocks

Aug 17, 2012

I've just started to learn how to use Annotative Blocks and i'm running into what is probably a very simple problem.  I'm creating a block and want to assign annotative scales to it.  Once created, I insert the block into the drawing I need to use it in, and the only scale that shows up is the scale that is active when inserted.

All the other scales I added when creating the block are gone and I then have to assign the scales to the block again.   I would prefer not to have to manually assign the scales every time the block in inserted into a drawing.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Annotative Block Multileader

Jul 2, 2013

I'm fairly new to using annotative objects, and I am having a lot of trouble with blocks and annotative multileaders.

I made a custom block (_ValveCallout) to be used in an annotative multileader, which was working perfectly, until I needed to edit the block I was using in the multileader.  After I redefined the block, the attributes in the block seem to be displayed at the wrong scale, and the border around them isn't even showing at all. I have to redraw every multileader if I have to make a change to the block.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Fixing Annotative Text To A Line

Aug 26, 2011

I have a line and would like one line of text above and MTEXT below.

Problem is the annotation scaling part where I can't seem to position the text so it scales to the line correctly.

It's ok at 1:100. I can't work out a way of doing it so that the line is central between the first two lines of text and the three lines have equal spacing.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Annotative Associative Block With Attributes

Oct 1, 2011

I "work in both worlds" It's somewhat important.  (Windows at my "day job", Mac Student Ed for my University teaching.

I have an Annotative Associative block with attributes (TTFs).  The Title attribute is multi-line.  When the block used in a file that is opened in Windows, obvkously everything is fine.  If that same drawing is opened in ACAD Mac, the position of the top attribute shifts and can't be corrected until the block is edited in Windows.  (It has to be Windows because ACADmac can't edit associative blocks in this release.)

Process I used (MacBookPro 7,1):
Start ACAD12win (Parallels 7 w/WinXP), used default ACAD.DWT.inserted block "Tag Drawing Title", accepted all attribute value defaults, accepted default annotation scale of 1:1save fileopened file in ACAD12mac (multi-line attribute in wrong position)save fileOpened again in ACAD12win, and multi-line attribute is still in wrong position.  Save fileOpened again in ACAD12mac, and multi-line attribute is in a greater incorrect position.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Annotative Symbols Jumping Around The Page

Feb 21, 2012

I made a post in the autoCAD LT section, URL...And to save you the jump (though there's none of the fixes I've tried)I'm having issues with annotative symbols jumping around the page. As far as I can tell, it happens on certain symbols when I add a second(or more) annotative scale to that symbol. I can reset the symbols so that they're all aligned and sitting 'on top' of each other, but when I switch to different viewports/plot or save/open the drawing again they've reverted to the position they jump too. In the past I thought it might be something to do with where the basepoint was within the block, but having changed that, I still had the problem.

Both the blocks I've had it happen with are reasonably simple (one's an 'Auto Air Valve' symbol with a mask behind the lines, the other is a custom 'Section line' symbol although that also has some properties to allow me to extend the section line) objects. With the section line symbol I mirror it to get the second half, which is the half it's having the problem on. I wouldn't expect mirroring an object would do it though. The odd thing is, it's only happened in some drawings that I've done, and only with some symbols (which were all created at a similar time, so should have the same issues?),

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Annotative Text - Drawing Scale

Jul 14, 2011

I have a dynamic block that contains both geometry as well as text.  I don't want the geometry to scale up based on the drawing  scale but I do want the text to scle according to the drawing scale.  I have tried making the text both annotative and non-annotative in the block and get the same result.  I can get the text to scale properly if I make the entire block annotative but that also scales the geometry which is not accurate.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Annotative Blocks Become Corrupt

May 18, 2013

i have created a block or several and made them annotative and I have worked with them, and the drawing for some time now without any issues. However, randomly during work, I suddenly noticed that all annotative blocks are displaying every scale associated to them all at once.

Upon closer inspection it turned out that different instances of a block with different values of attributes have been inserted as separate blocks with randomly generated names *U808, *889 etc. Each one of these generated blocks has in itself lines and text values, but duplicated or triplicated, in different sizes matching what have once been scales.

I cannot edit these generated blocks, they are not listed when I go to BEDIT.

Even blocks that didn't have any attributes, a block that is only a single circle, has been corrupted in this way.

P.S. I use AutoCad 2012.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Annotative Blocks In Xref

May 16, 2012

I have a file I received from a consultant that has an annotative block in it. I've been trying to xref (attachment, not overlay) it into our files, and it's not showing up. I've got the affected layers on, the block units for both files are identical..

This block has editable attributes in it. The attribute is what is not showing up...the point, which is the other block component, displays correctly in the xref.

Is there any way to get arround this?  Idealy I would like the old file inserted and have the annotion scale of the blocks in the inserted dbg set to the current scale.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Learning To Create Blocks With Annotative Scale

Jul 30, 2012

I am rather new to AutoCAD 2010, and have observed issues with Annotative Scale. I have tried to avoid that function like the plague, but now I have some time to learn of it and its power.

I've been tasked with creating/updating Electrical Department symbol blocks. Right now, I am working on lighting fixture blocks, and I have this particularly odd scenario when i'm making the Block Attributes. My new block is for a 2 foot by 4' lighting fixture. When this block is to be inserted in Model Space, the size will always remain constant (2'x4'), but I need the Attributes (one for the Fixture Type, and one to denote the Circuit Number and Switch leg) to change sizes per the plan scale on Paper Space.

How, and in which space, should I construct my light fixture block & attributes? And, which parts of the block or attributes should be Annotative? Also, the light fixture can be either oriented vertically or horizontally. Will I still be able to relocate the attribute using -EATTEDIT or -ATTEDIT?

AutoCad 2D :: Replacing Non-Annotative Blocks With Annotative Blocks

Oct 29, 2012

My company is in the process of updating the entire block library to be annotative or dynamic (depending on the usage) and it's been wonderful for new projects.

The problem comes in when we have to update an existing dwg. When we try to "blockreplace" the new annotative tags for the old non-annotative tags. These tags have attributes, but we have literally not changed anything about the blocks except the "annotativedwg" property within the root block file. When we run block replace, the old blocks disappear completely! they're not at a teeny scale or a gigantic scale, they're not on an "off" or "frozen" layer, they just fully go away even if you say "don't purge the old block that is being replaced".

I usually don't have a problem "doing my job" and just going through and replacing them individually on the smaller sized projects, but most of our projects have upwards of 700 - 1000 tags per dwg. Slightly tedious as you can imagine, especially since I am addicted to finding newer faster better ways to draw.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Creating Dynamic Blocks?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Dynamic Blocks With Text Increments

Dec 13, 2011

Is there any way to have a dynamic block which utilises a similar function to TCOUNT. I am doing drawings for solar panel installations and have set up a dynamic block for our different panels that we use, which i have used xy paramater with the array action to make life simple when inserting panels onto a drawing... however we number these panels 1 to ~ ... we could have 3 on one roof but we could also have over 100... is there any way to have the dynamic block auto increment the text automatically? At the moment i use the block to show 20 panels then i explode and use the tcount command to increment the text in selection order.

Or... how i could go about doing lets say a data entry for example insert block-> Dialogue for amount of panels / amount of panels in a row or column? And after selecting that data the block will automatically have numbers 1-x...

I have attached a sample block so you can try and get an understanding of what im after.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Dynamic Blocks Destroyed When Copied And Adjusted?

Nov 7, 2012

When I copy a dynamic block, and then adjust one of the copies or the original, the other copies often get messed up/destroyed--odd shifts in the handles, lines moving out of kilter, etc.

Perhaps the following is the cause of the problem: when I copy a dynamic block, Autocad does not give the copy an original Anonymous Name. So I am left with a bunch of blocks with the same Anonymous Name. Perhaps this confuses Autocad.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Replace Dynamic Blocks With New Ones - Anonymous Names Are Created

Jan 19, 2012

I recently updated our CAD Library to dynamic blocks. In the process of updating our drawings, we realized that we could not use BLOCKREPLACE to replace dynamic blocks with another dynamic block (with new name) once the dynamic element has been changed. I realize that this changes the state of the block and anonymous block names are created.

I need a simple solution so that members of my group can easily replace dynamic blocks with new dynamic blocks.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Annotative Attributes In NON-Annotative Block

Feb 7, 2013

I have a co-worker who needs to create a block where the attributes scale with the anno scale, but the block container does not. He's creating a tree block and wants the canopy and trunk attributes to scale without scaling the tree symbol.

Making an attribute annotative and applying the scales to the attributes doesn't seem to work if the block itself isn't annotative.

Are we missing something, or is this just not possible?

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Adding One Action To Dynamic Blocks

Mar 15, 2012

I have created a dynamic block with several visiblility states. The block works great for what I need it for. however, I am trying to add one more action to the block but am having issues.

This block is essentially a 24" retail cabinet with the visibility states showing the different drawer and shelf configurations. I want to be able to lengthen the cabinet in 24" increments and have the visibility show for each 24" section.....e.g.  I want a 10' cabinet so I bring in the 24" starter block. Then stretch the cabinet to the 10' mark, then I can chose any drawer/shelve config for each 24" section (they are all different).

I can get the block to stretch in 24" sections....no problem.....i just want the visibility state to be duplicated as well for each section. Now as it stretches, there is only one Vis state and it only populates the first cabinet.

I could do this by copying the block over and over 5 times.....but I am hoping there is a way to make this dynamic.

AutoCad 2D :: How To Use Annotative Blocks

Aug 29, 2011

How to use annotative blocks; I searched the forums and used google a lot but I still don't get it. The problem is me, that is for shure! I have been using regular blocks for ages, and since a year or so I use dynamic block also.

It won't get through to me how the annotative option should work, I try, click and see but none of the results are what I am after.

This is my situation; I clean up a drawing (a building like a house), this I use as an xref. Once it is Xreffed to a new *.dwg I set dimscale to 50. For Nearly all of mij viewports are set to 1:50. All the blocks I insert are scaled up * dimscale.

Like a block that is 3mmx3mm is inserted as 150x150. Now, in some occasions, I have 2 viewports with a different scale. One is 1:50, the other is 1:100. I want the block to look the same in the 1:100 VP as it does in the 1:50VP. But it ain't happening.

If I insert the block when dimscale is 1, then the annotation works, but is it worthless in modelspace for the blocks are a factor 50 too small.
