Jul 30, 2013I recently installed the SketchUp plugin in the hope that I would be able to easily and effectively transfer SketchUp models into AutoCAD and subsequently into Revit.
However, upon importing the SketchUp model, extra wireframe is added to the flat surfaces from vertex to vertex. This does not affect the CAD model as such as it appears that these lines are necessary for CAD to create the surfaces.
Though when imported into Revit from CAD, these surfaces are unable to be processed and the model becomes incomplete, also failing to identify the windows and doors that had been previously identified as the model had been taken from Revit, through CAD and to SketchUp with no problems and then all the way back again.
What is the next step of importing it back to Revit as I am unsure how to retain its levels (i.e Floor plans).

However, the only way that I seem to be able to see the DWG is by selecting 'Scale to Fit Artboard'... When I attempt to import using 'Original Size' or the 'Scale by' input factor the item doesn't seem to show anywhere on the artboard?
Revit :: Import GbxmL To Open Studio Within Sketchup?
Dec 9, 2013I have created a model within revit architecture 2013 which I want to export as a gbxmL and open in the open studio 1.1.0 interface within sketchup. When I export the gbxmL model into sketchup it does not have a floor, and an error saying surface has two adjacent spaces which are the same space (warning repeated for each room), room will not be translated, and also surface has no adjacent spaces, will not be translated appears.
All spaces are bound to the floor and roof, and zones are correctly assigned, and the model has a location. There are no errors when the export to gbxml is to take place for analytical surfaces or for the rooms. What might be wrong in the way I have assigned rooms/spaces?

Mar 23, 2008I have PSCS3 Extended and have downloaded and installed the Google 3D Warehouse plugin. I can access the plugin which takes me to the Google 3D website and I can navigate to and download 3D models. However, when the model is actually brought into Photoshop, it looks very strange. The model is only visible in fixed shape area that appears to be the shape of the initial 3d model. But when I rotate and move the model, it simply slides the view of the image inside the fixed shape area. Very strange. I've tried this with about 8 different downloaded KMZ (Google Earth 4) models and they all do this same strange behavior. Additionally, I downloaded Google's free SketchUp program. The models load and appear fine in that program. I've exported from that program, but the files still have the same problem when loaded up into Photoshop.

Feb 5, 2013I've just inherited a 500GB HDD from my Dad and I'd love to be able to work all his photos through LR, although there's no way I'm sitting there and importing each and every directory!
As Google Picasa can be told to monitor a directory (eg My Pictures) and each time a new directory or directories are added, on startup it scans for and locates these new dirs and imports the pictures.
Can LR3 be set up to do this please as it would save me hours if I could just leave it overnight to import all of his pics straight into LR.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Import Google Earth Image And Surface?
Nov 13, 2010I am trying to import a surface and Image from Google Earth. Basically my steps are as follows:
start GE and C3D find area that I need on GE and zoom in under C3D, insert GE Image and Surface (then it goes straight into select point, and rotation)
Like most discussions i've read.., the import slows down at 49%, and then it chugs for hours if I let it. So i have to cut the cord and re-start both programs.
I saw in a discussion that there are settings that we can change the rows and columns to something like 70x70.
however.... I cannot find where to update this. I typed importgesurface, and clicked on the ribbon as well..., then tried to right click, but it does not take me to the settings. I also figured that I might have to run C3d as admin, but no luck either.
find these settings so I can change them to import a surface and image that is about 15acres?

AutoCAD Map 3D :: No Longer Import Aerial Images From Google Earth
May 23, 2012I just upgraded my entire department to 2013 from 2008. We can no longer import aerial images from Google Earth, publish KMLs or export generic Microstation design files (we have to choose from V7 & V8.)
I can't beleive this "upgrade" actually downgraded our functionality as a department. We can no longer provide sevices to those requiring these file formats and will be forced to discontinue the use of CAD for many of our projects.

In the 'type a command' ribbon, when I type in 'GEOGRAPHICLOCATION' and select 'Import the current location from Google Earth' (opens Google Earth, where you can retrieve a location to import).
Then a window appears which says 'Navigate to the location in Google Earth that you want to import before continuing (for best results, configure the view in Google Earth to look directly over the location that you want to import).
When I select 'continue' the command ribbon asks that I, 'select a point for the location <0, 0, 0>:
I have looked at the co-ordinates on google earth and attempted to enter but it does not feel right. Then says 'specify the north direction or (angle):s, then 'Point or option keyword required'.

Mar 27, 2012I am using AutoCAD LT 2010 and I am wondering how I can upload from my dwg file onto Google Earth? We do have one user at work who has a drawing that we believe was uploaded onto Google Earth from AutoCAD but it appears it is loaded onto Google Earth using a KMZ file. Would I need to create a KMZ plotter or am I looking in the total wrong direction when trying to get this onto Google Earth?

Apr 3, 2013I am trying to create drawings for a client where we want to have everything coordinate correct and the correct dimension for roads and other info. Their units are set to Engineer and Unitless (which I do not have control over). Plus we assign a state plane coordinate system to the drawing.
When I import lidar information from a .shp file it may be placing the lines/images correctly, but I'm measuring 5' for a road that is actually 60' (I did notice that it is a multiple of 12). I can't scale everything up by 12 from the origin - because then I would lose the coordinates... In Decimal - everything is fine (naturally =] )
How do I bring in information and have it measure correctly? And more importantly, that I can then draw correctly.

Dec 31, 2011i have been using sketchup now for about a year but as you know, the models are never really complete without a background in them. there are ways right in sketchup to add a backgroung but they cant be rendered because the background disappears and leaves only the rendered model. i downloaded gimp to see if i could add a background there but the instructions are so vague that there's just no way i can understand what they are talking about. i know nothing about transparent backgrounds or what it has to do with adding a simple jpg photo background to my model. the more you people try to explain in your ''image editor terms'', the farther away from understanding i get. i know for a fact that there are hundreds of people out there who feel exactly what i'm feeling but they don't want to appear to be idiots so they clam up and so then these questions are never asked and these statements are never made and consequently, you people just on talking in some other vague language that very few beginners can possibly relate to. i just want a simple instructive path as to how to bring a picture to the clipboard and then bring a background picture into that first picture, blend them togeather and have a finished scene. is that a lot to ask? if you want people to use your product, then find a way to speak to them so that they can understand what the hell you're talking about. i do realize that there are those people out there who fully ''get it''...but for every one of that do, there are 50 more that do not.
