3ds Max :: How To Add Material To Library Through Slate Editor

As the title says - How can I add a material to material library through Slate editor? I created the library and it appears as a tab to the right but how do I place my materials there? I tried dragging and dropping the node but that didn't work. I also tried right-clicking the node and searching there but nothing there either.

3ds Max :: Slate Material / Compact Editor

We're discovering some sort of disturbing differences in some of the shaders in the Slate versus the traditional material editor. You can find them everywhere, but a good example is the Matte/Shadow/Reflection material. Under Additional Params in the Slate node you'll find more parameters than are in the Compact editor (also what is called the Parameter Editor in Slate). Found no information on these extra parameters. See the attached image. Substance maps are another example of different parameters.

What have happened with the material editor(slate?) in 3ds max 2014, its takes years to render a material compared to render the same maps and material in 2013.
 
Problem does not stop there, quite often the whole 3dsmax dies to when it stucks on a material?

3ds Max :: How To Drag / Copy A Material From The Slate Editor Into The Environment Map Slot

1) Is there a way to drag/copy a material from the slate editor into the Environment Map slot in the Environment/Effects dialog box?

Or

2) Is there a way to put a non-assigned material from the Slate editor into a slot in the Compact Material Editor?

I'm trying to put a Env/Background Switcher into the Environment map slot. I FIRST created the Env/Background Switcher in the slate editor (this is simply the order I worked in and found I couldn't go further).

However, from the Slate Editor, I can't copy, drag, or assign this material, whether to the Environment dialog box, an object in the scene (objects won't accept the Env/Bkg Switcher), nor to a slot in the Compact Material Editor. Perhaps I'm missing a button click or a command someplace?

The only way I can do this is to rebuild the material in the Compact Material Editor (start with a clean Env/Bkg Switcher), or click in the Environment Dialog box's Environment Map slot and start by choosing an Env/Bkg Switcher.

3ds Max :: Creating New Material In Slate Material Edit

I upgraded to 3DsMax 2011 and still have some problems navigating the Slate Material Editor. I want to create a Mix material as the "first" material but I'm only able to double click on the Sample Slot to get a standard material in the "View1" as my "first" material. I am able to create a "Mix" node here, but it has to be connected to the "Standard" material and this makes it so that i can not drag the material in to the "Environment and Effects" tab as my "Environment Map".

When i go back to the "Compact Material Editor" (which waists time), I can select the Standard icon but "Maps" is not available in the "Material/Map Browser" when i right click on an open space.

3ds Max :: Instancing Materials In The Slate Editor

When working on materials in Slate's "View" panel it's easy to shift/drag to make a copy of a material component. However, that operation makes a copy, not an instance, and it does not provide a prompt when drag/copying as the Compact Material Editor does. Is there an intuitive method for instancing material components within the View panel in Slate? Sure, I can switch back to the Compact Editor, but it would be better/more efficient to stay in the same material editing work environment.

Regarding Shift/Dragging materials in Slate, there's another odd behavior I'm getting. If I press Control while in the View Panel, a plus sign shows up near the cursor, which I intuit to mean it is in "copy" mode. But, Control/Dragging a material component produces no visible effects (nothing happens). what that plus next to the cursor is indicating?

I have a bunch of material libraries that need to be re-pathed as I have moved my textures, the Bitmap/Photometric paths editor has a tickbox that says "include material library" which leads me to believe that it will list, for re-pathing, all materials in my library.

However, it doesn't seem to do anything for me even though the library i need to re-path is loaded into my Material/map browser.

3ds Max :: Can't Reset Material Slots In Material Editor

Im on Max 2011 with sp1 and the latest hotfix installed, working with vray 1.5 sp5. When i try to re-set mu material editor (compact not slate) i get the folllowing error message

"Runtime error: cannot assign undefined to material editor slots" and a Macro_media utilities window opens with the following script

3ds Max :: Material Editor Cut-off Near Towards End

The material editor on my desktop is cut-off near toward the end. I cannot reach what I need to reach; the scroll bar won't go anymore downward, though it should.

How can I dock my material editor so that it continues on another column?

Due to some reasons I had to (first i've repaired 3ds max, but it couldn't start at all - "not responding" from very first second of opening 3ds max shortcut, and after that) uninstall and reinstall 3ds max 2011. From first open try it had ribbon problem, but ok, not using ribbons too much. But after working for a half day, there's some problems with material editor too...

What i should do now? repair it or uninstall and reinstall it again?

I Open material editor select at open/unused material..I use mental ray so all of the slots are Arch design materials.I go to change the Arch design material too whatever.... Freaking max crashes…

3ds Max :: Material Editor Has Disappeared

My material editor won't appear when I click the button on my tool bar. The button toggles between on/off but the material editor menu never actually shows up. I've restarted my computer, I've minimized then maximized the program window, I've moved the program window back and forth between both of my monitors, I've tried opening it by hitting "M"...nothing seems to work.

Is there a way to save the preview images for materials in a material library? I have a library of some SSS materials that take a while to render, and every time I open that library I have to wait them to render, what's very annoying. If there's no way, is there a way to at least disable the automatic rendering of all materials?

I can't seem to find where the shader parameters are in the compact material editor in 2013. When In the attached picture, I've shown how it looks when I open it.

I've looked all over online and checked out every rollout in the editor and can't seem to find it anywhere... and all the online tutorials (lynda, etc) say they're for 2013 but are really for 2012.

3ds Max :: Material Library Changes Prompt On Exit?

The studio I'm working is an early MAX 2012 adopter and, overall, I think it's better than 2011 but still not rock solid or bug-free. Let the hotfix-fest begin.

What I'm wondering is: why is it always prompting me if I want to save the changes made to the materials libraries I've opened (even if I haven't made a single change...) on exit, after the save file prompt?

This is getting ridiculously annoying since I sometimes open up 20-30 material libraries per scene and it asks ONCE PER EVERY LIBRARY (and can't seem to find an option to remove the prompt or "never ask again" tick)

Also, this happens with the simple/classic material browser (can't see why slate is so great...)

teaching design and one of the programs is 3ds-Max Design 2012. One of my students couldn't find her Autodesk Material Library in the slate material window. Also in the compact material window the default materials were empty. I looked everywhere and tried to set back to the program defaults but that didn't work. Revit :: Material Library Not Showing Up

I am using Revit 2013 and have built a material library for the company I work for. It has been working fine up until about an hour ago. Now when I try to open up the material library I created it says "No assets in this library". I can't figure out why there is nothing there. And I don't want to have to recreate all my materials I already created! I can still find the file in my folders and it says theres 3930 KB of information in the file. I included a picture of what my Assest Editor and Asset Browser show when I try to open my library.

3ds Max :: Playback In Viewport Choppy After Material Editor

Im having trouble with my viewport once my material editor is open. If I try to play my animation once my material editor is up it plays very very choppy. It didn't before I open the material editor. Its happening with all my scenes and I don't have any animated maps or very high res maps in the scene. Most of my scenes are very simple and still getting choppy viewport playback. If I close down the Material editor I still get the same performance when I play my animation. The only thing that I have be able to do to fix this is restarting max. Once I restart max it will work fine as longs as i don't open the material editor up. I have a top of the line machine from HP so i don't know what is going on.
