Usually when I view anything in outline all the outlines are there. But now I have two solid shapes with no stroke and they aren't visible in outline mode. Three other shapes, also with no stroke, are fine... All on the same document.
View 7 RepliesI have been working with Xara for two days now, and it's great! I am using the trial version of Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 9. I created a file with a couple of transparent shapes (love the transparency tool - so easy!), and it looked great. I exported to .pdf, and the transparent gradient was all gone. The shapes are there, but have no gradient whatsoever.
I also exported it as a .jpg and the gradients are present in the .jpg. In other words, the .xar file looks great and the .jpg looks great. Just the .pdf doesn't work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHow is width and height calculated in the transform panel for an object? Does it use an average? An example can be seen in the first image. The lines are not a uniformed width.
Also, how are strokes converted from pts to pxls? For instance, if I make a stroke that is 2.3 pt, when I expand the object the width in the transform panel will say 2.3px ; however, I thought the point to pixel conversion (even for a 72 dpi screen resolution) was different. An example can be seen in the last two images, where a line was made with a specified stroke width and then expanded.
Is there a way to make a kidney bean shape in illustrator? There must be an easier way then the way i'm trying to do it. can you not just create a hot dog shape and some how move a point in the middle to make it go kidney?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Illustrator CS6, Strokes are automaticly rounding to the nearest whole point size, and shapes I place in a given location are snapping to a grid that I can't seem to find anywhere. All my snaps are turned off, as well as "allign to pixel grid", and I can't seem to find anything in preferences or the transform or object panes that would affect these things. How do I disable both things?

I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7. It has a 500GB HD, 4GB RAM, 16" screen and CorelDRAW X5 and Summa's WinPlot bridge software installed. Everything runs perfectly.
I want to be able to cut vinyl letters from my Summa D75R vinyl cutter and then to cut a different colored outline to be applied over the top of those letters. The letters themselves, that is, the main body of the letters, I can cut with no problem.
I know that I will have to separate the two elements and cut the letters from one file and the outlines from a different file. As an experiment I created a single word with a color. I then created an outline for that word. I deleted the body of the letter leaving only the outline.
I then did a "Convert to Curves" on the outline and imported the image into the WinPlot software that my Summa D75R vinyl cutter uses. I sent the image to the cutter but it cut it as a solid letter. It did not make a double-line cut as it would have to do to make the image an outline.
Whenever i move my cursor over a 3D solid, outlines of the solid stay dashed.I tried changing the visual effect settings but it doesn't work.
it doesn't only do this in every view (top,side,front) but also when i'm panning around and hover my mouse over any solid. Using the regen command resets the solids so that they don't have the dashed outlines anymore.
whenever i'm panning around and i have conceptual view on, i have to switch from conceptual -> wireframe -> conceptual if i want the solids to look normal again.
I'm really enjoying Xara Designer 6 these days except for this one problem that is popping up in all my exported images. all of the text in my images are surrounded by intermittent blue pixels which makes the text less crisp or even muddy.

I apply the exact same stroke to the image on the left as on the blue shape on the right. Instead of getting what I want (and what I used to get), I get this kind of blurred stroke.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm playing with the 3D tools in Photoshop CS5 Extended for a friend. He provided an .obj file of a tool part and it opens just fine as a complex, shaded object.
Question: Is there a way to generate simple outlines of the object and export those outlines as paths to Illustrator?
Here is what my artboard looks like. What I'm trying to do is just get the black shapes as one solid logo without the white showing. For example, if I were to place this in another Illustrator project, it would still have the white rectangles with full transperency. I tried a tut online, but when I place the AI file into another project, the WHOLE image is invisible.
If I were to open this AI file in Photoshop, I could use the Magic Wand to delete the white parts and leave just the black shape. I want to be able to resize the black shape and use it on banners, avatars, etc.
Background notes: I am using this for my gaming website and I would like to be able to use this for my logo. (Crossfire)

Many and many times We have to convert shapes to bitmap due to CPU issues when We use blends, etc, that is to say, We draw vectorial but We are limited if We push xara to the limits.
The other doubt is, what happens when we use fills, for instance the ones that come with xara, aren't they bitmaps?, will they looks as sharp as We want when we use them in large drawings?.
What happens with transparencies?, are they vector?, what about shadow tool?.
Is there any way to set photo settings to a shape, have the shape apply as a filter when over an image.
Ie make a rectangle shape, set it to 50% transparent, and focus -50 contrast +50 brightness +20 then have these effects the photo below
I know I can do this with cloning the image and then create an interesting shape - but this is then fixed to that location over the image -
I want to be able to set these properties to the shape, and then move anywhere over the image
(basically like a piece of frosted glass, placed over a photo. - the glass effects what you see of the photo not just colour but also focus..., but you can move it around)
I have a group of shapes that I need to place on a larger "canvas" of a specific size. When I export as a GIF, I want the whole "canvas" except for the shapes to be transparent.

I've been using the shape tool more and more at work and wonder... Is there a "preferred" or "best" way to choose nodes when creating shapes? Let's say we've got a french curl stencil that we want to make. Is it best to simply draw where the curves start and stop, or in the "center" of each curve as it bends?
EDIT: Perhaps a silhouette of a mickey mouse type ears + body would be a good example.
Is there any way to add a favorite brush stroke to the list of brush strokes, or do you always have to open the original file to access the brush stroke?

Can I convert 3D-rotated extrusions to flat shapes again?
Because, I'd like to create outlines and shadows of added and intersected extrusions. So, I think, I should try to get flat shapes from extruded objects (extrusions), shouldn't I?
I've got a problem with the combine shapes > slice (cut) shapes. (Designer Pro X).
I often use this tool to cut a graphic to make a repeating object, so I don't want it to have any boarder, just solid color. But for some reason when I cut the shape xara puts a little (approx 1 pixel) transparent line where the shape has been cut. This is often added to exported to the edges of pngs and svgs and looks a bit like anti-aliasing of some sort but I don't want this, just a solid object.
How to avoid this? See my attachment for an example png that I created by simply slicing one rectangle from another, I want to be able to do this without the extra line appearing - ie just solid black.
How do I turn a bitmap into editable shapes in Xara Designer Pro X. i.e. In my case have a screenshot of an website, and I want to get Xara to intelligently turn it into editable shapes so that I can do clean experiments on changing the colours of different areas etc. I remember that there used to be a tool about 4 years ago in a previous version of Xara but I can't find it.

The top shape is a carpet (or something) with a bitmap fill applied. I want to draw it curled, as in the bottom shape--the texture doesn't follow the contour of the object (as expected, since this isn't a 3D modelling program).
But is there some way to simulate the gradual rotation and foreshortening of a texture, to make folds and curls in fabric look more realistic?
I have a HUGE Xara file that is becoming very slow. And it turns out that the reason for this is that at some point, many edits ago, I accidentally must have pasted the same thing multiple times!
i.e. I currently have: text-shape-text-shape-text-shape-text-shape-text-shape-text-shape-text-shape-text-shape-text-shape-text-shape-text-shape etc all on the same layer.
The problem is that there are a large number (about 100) of items. Any good way or removing the (hidden) duplications of texts and shapes ?

When I create a LIVE SHAPE in Photoshop CC edit the corners etc, close the file and then reopen at another stage, the ability to change the LIVE SHAPE properties has disappeared.
