How to create a glowing text effect? I need for a poster design I'm working.
Example : [URL]..........
I have looked everywhere at all sorts of photoshop and illustrator tutorials (because I couldn't find a Xara one) to accomplish this effect. I am creating a website for my client Jim and would like to incorporate a similar image to what he's using on his book cover, but with some different colors as the background to his site.
You can see what I'm trying to do in his blog header background here: [URL]......
I've found that this is a stock photo used in a lot of places, but I'm not really interested in getting the original image - I have that, but as a Jpeg on a black background. I'd prefer to learn how to create a similar effect in Xara.
I have tried all sorts of things that are kind of close, but just not there yet. I've tried using a line with pen pressure with a glow shadow. I've tried lines with a stained glass color overlay. I've tried creating a number of different brushes with a few levels of color, some with Gaussian blur applied, etc. but I just can't get this effect down. It always looks pretty good when I'm done, but then I look at the inspirational original and I'm not even in the ballpark for the amount of shine, glow, impact, etc.
In the end, this may not even work for the site since will be putting it on a light colored background, but I still want to know how to create this, as I'm sure I'll be able to use the technique elsewhere.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using Illustrator CC today and had the Drop Shadow show up in the menu of Effect > Stylize. Now all I see in this menu is Glowing Edges. How did this happen and how do I get all the effects to show up again?
Edit: Never mind. I was looking under the Photoshop Effects section instead of the Illustrator Effects section.
I have something that appears so simple yet I want it to look exactly as example shows and do it with DP7.
I've tried shadow too, and cloning/offsetting. It doesn't give desired look.
3D extruding isn't the answer as then the type gets a skewed perspective and that's not what I need.
Perhaps there's some way this look can be achieved that I don't know about.
Here's the example, then my efforts that don't look right.
There's a remote chance it's the font. If so, how to recognize that font? I do know that original artwork was cut in a 2 pc vinyl stencil as I asked artist but she doesn't recall font or program used as it was a few years ago.
I was messing around the other day and I came up with this effect. In my haste to get something done I just saved the picture and moved on. Unfortunately now I am unable to remember the name or location of the effect I used. I am not sure if it is a filter or not. I am sure this is just a silly little thing and I am being dumb, however I have gone through every menu and every filter and I can't seem to figure it out. This image I believe I had inverted and maybe changed the color layout a little bit, but the effect changed both color and style.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have put together this mini tutorial for doing a letterpress effect, and what's really nice is that the text stays as editable text and this effect is editable! You can change the text and/or the font without losing the effect as long as you don't overflow the text box.
I have attached a png large enough for viewing on screen (just click the thumbnail then click the pop up) and a .xar file with the instructions and examples you can pull apart.
You should be able to do this in Designer Pro or Photo & Graphic Designer from version 6 and up.
I'm wondering how to do glowing text over a background image. What I am looking for is the technique used on the title text from the show "Smallville"
Here are the restrictions:
-Background image (obviously background layer)
-Glowing text (but not regular font. I made some font and just saved as black and white image)
I have spent a while looking for the technique, but nothing seemed to work well. I applied a Gaussian filter, weird polar coordinates thing (seen from another site), and Wind effect.
The wind effect seems closest. However, when I force a black and white text image to have the wind effect, the background of the white glowing text remains black and it looks bad if I just make the black transparent.

View 3 Replies View Relatedmaking a "glowing" effect for a project of mine. I made a roman numeral three, and I have a grid that I'll be using as the background. I want to make it so that just the outline of the Roman numeral is showing, and you can see the grid through it, but I want the outline to look like its glowing. Someone suggested to me that I just lower the fill opacity to Zero in the blending options, and apply the "outer glow" to it. which looks cool, but I want the glow to be bright white at the top, and gradually fade to a blue glow towards the bottom, and I can't accomplish this because it wont let me paint over the "outer glow " effect. someone else suggested that I paint the outline how I want, (blue on top, white on bottom) and then feather it to give it a glow look, but it wont let me feather for some reason, (maybe i'm not doing it right?)

View 4 Replies View RelatedI ran across a thread a while back on doing a 3D box, that I believe Rik did. Shown is the example box. How to do the "shading" effect on the front of the box? Is just a overlapping of different shapes with different transparencies? I played around with the transparency tool, but didn't get the same effect.
I am new to this and get over whelmed by all of the cool effects you guys do. Is there a "central" location that might show samples of looks, and a how to? Also the 3D box thread link, can't seem to find again.
I realized that can not find a live effect which was in before Designer Pro version, where is the posterize actually? Assumingly that should be in the Fx list but for me that is only which is on the picture
View 4 Replies View Relatedhow to get the desired end result. When applying the Gaussian blur effect, I find that doing this always adds additional width or height to my object which makes the graphic larger than the desired size. To be more specific, I have a rectangle that is 640px by 100px and I want to add an element on top of that is 640px by 4px. I add the Gaussian blur effect to the 640px by 4px object so that my rectangle appears to have depth and my overall graphic is not flat. The problem comes when I export the both elements because the Gaussian blur has now increased the width of my graphic to be larger then desired. Is there a why to add the Gaussian blur effect without increasing the width of my graphic? The final result is a graphic width of 656px.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to blur some text so that it blends in with the background a little. I found the perfect way to do this using the Live Effect, Soften Filter, Motion Blur. However, when I finish getting it to blur to exactly how I need it to look, there is no option to apply this to the text. When I close the box (the only option available) I lose the effect! View 9 Replies View RelatedI'd really like to be able to create the sparkle effect seen in the image below using Designer Pro X, but try as I may, I haven't figured out how to do this. It is a one-click effort in MediaChance's RealDraw.
The top image is the image without the sparkles; the one below it adds the sparkles, and the bottom image is just a black field on which the same sparkles are placed so you can see them without distraction.
Is there a (preferably easy) way to do this in Designer Pro X?
