VideoStudio :: Combining Multiple Video Sources (transitions)
Jul 14, 2012
I have two videos of the same event that I would like to switch between. There is audio to sync to the video as well.
What I wanted to do was:
1) Put the main video in the main video track
2) Put the audio in the music track and aling with the main video
3) Put the secondary video in the overlay track. Align it with the audio and set the overlay to cover the entire screen.
4) Cut out most of the overlay video (spit the clip into sections and delete most of them).
That worked as far as it went -- the main video shows, interspersed with the secondary video, and everything is aligned with the audio. The problem is that the change between video perspectives is quite aburpt, but I cannot figure out how to make the transitions be seamless.
I added transitions to the beginning and end of each small clip on the overlay panel, but that didn't really make things seamless, particularly at the end of the clip -- there isn't anything to cross cut to, and if it fades to black then the main video pops up immediately when the overlay clip ends.
I tried splitting the video in the main track at the spot where the overlay comes in and adding a transition to the end of it; no matter what i try with the ripple settings, that throws the audio out of sync when the overlay is finished. I also tried deleting that section in the video track and moving the video from the overlay track into the video track; that was difficult enough to make sure that the sections were exactly the same length, but then I still have the problem with the transition lengthening the clip and throwing off the audio. I guess I could somehow figure out how to trim exactly the right amount of time from the clip I am inserting to solve that problem. Really, I guess I'd have to do that twice -- once for each transition -- because if otherwise the audio would be off in the clip being inserted. So I need to trim 1 second (or whatever) from the beginning; split it somewhere, and then trim 1 second from the end.

Whenever I use any transition, it causes a flash of white noise on the video as the transition starts. It goes away if I make the transition very very long.

If I have 200 pictures and 5 minutes of video is there a quick and easy way to produce a video quickly with transitions in between all pictures?
Are there templates that all pictures can be inserted into to produce something really quick so that from this starting point editing can begin?

I have never used any video editing software and I have a Video issue I want to shoot video with a Nikon D3100 DSLR in either 720P or 1080P. The camera produces MOV format (see more at the end of the post). I want to record the audio on a Zoom H4 digital recorder (see more at the end of the post.)
I want to combine the audio from the H4 and the video from the Nikon and have them in sync. The vid is of musicians so I need the video of the musicans hands syncing properly with the music they are playing. This will be shot in a "studio" situation. Not a concert.
I will ask the main quesitons first then give some tech specs on the gear.
1) Can the Corel X3 or X4 video software remove the audio from the MOV file and replace it with either the WAV or MP3 from the Zoom H4?
2) With two different devices recording audio and video, will there will be some differences in sync that have to be corrected?
3) Can Corel make adjustments to the audio speed without changing pitch if I need to do that to sync the audio to the video?
4) The H4 can record in WAV or Mp3 in a variety of bitrates. Forgetting the audio quality, does the WAV or MP3 format make a difference as far as syncing goes?
5) If all of this can be done in Corel does it make a difference if I get the X4 or the less expensive X3 software. At least at this point the only extras I would be adding is a title.
Tech specs on the equipment:
The Nikon D3100 produces HD video in .MOV format using file compression of H.264/MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding.
Frame Rate is:
1,920 x 1080 (Full HD) 24p (23.976fps)
1,280 x 720 (HD) 30p (29.97fps)
1,280 x 720 (HD) 25p (25fps)
1,280 x 720 (HD) 24p (23.976fps)
The Zoom H4 can record in either WAV or MP3 in a variety of bitrates, including 44.1, 48 and 96kHz.

I have several different video clips with different formats from different cameras I'd like to use in one project. Is this possible and if so, is the rule to use the lowest common denominator? e.g. One file type is 25fps, 720x576 non-hd and another is 50fps, 1280x720 hd, so the output would have to use the first specs? What about different clips and the upper, lower, frame based thingy? I did try one experiment combining the two examples above using the first specs to create and avi file and the original 720x576 quality was reduced but the 1280x720 came out fine. Thats why Im asking - If I created the output based on the first lower specs, why did the clip with those specs turn out worse?

I recently purchased Video Studio Pro X3 - and after going through the knowledge base and product read me, I have been unable to find an answer to the following problem I have:
PROBLEM:
I have a number of videos (HD 1080p) that I have recorded. Each video is on average 50 minutes in length - what I want to do it to be able to do is to slice this video into 10 x 5 minute videos (based on topics discussed in the video), (so essentially clip the video into these segments and edit each one) and then when producing the video file - actually create 10 separate video files (all with editing in place) instead of one single large file.
As far as I have been able to work out, I need to go through the whole file, clip relevant sections, edit them, and then save project. I then need to go trim the saved file 10 times, to extract each time the single 5 minute video I want to create. This is a fairly manual and time consuming process, hence my hope that I can create 10 files based on the clips I have made in the larger 50 minute file in one go.
as I have 30 videos to edit, so looking for ways to save time!

I've reviewed the video tutorial on moving photos out of your main drive to another drive, and it seems reasonably straight forward.
However I have a mixed scenerio here, and I just want to check on the best and safest way to do this.
Before I settled on a NAS solution, and while I was running out of space on my Macbook Pro, I began using an external drive to hold both photos and catalogs.
Now that the NAS is up and running, what I would like to do is:
Move the ≈20K photos from the MBP main catalog to the NASMove the ≈1TB of photos from the external drive to the NASMove some of the corresponding catalags off the external and onto my MBP so they remain stand alone...Combine the remaining catalogs on the external drive into my main catalog on the MBP.
So again, I'm just casting for a best strategy from others who have done this, and what if any pitfalls to be wary of.

I'm using the 30 day trial of VisualStudio x6 to create a DVD from multiple different video sources (MOV, MP4, MPG, WMV etc) that are all recorded in HD or near HD qulity. The total size of all these videos on my HDD is upwards of 7Gb. My problem is, when I burn the DVD it compresses down to just over 950Mb and the quality is noticably degraded.
I realize there will be some quality loss going from source to DVD but is there anything I can change in the settings to achieve the highest quality DVD output? It seems like from 7Gb to 950Mb, its not even trying to maintain any quality. Not even half the single layer DVD disc gets filled. I also have DL DVD's to burn to. Basically, I want the highest quality DVD from these HD sources regardless of final output size.

First time creating a project and capturing digital (.mts) clips from digital media. I used to have a MiniDV camera which I found easy to 'capture' from.I recorded to SDHC memory card which I then copied (all folders and files) to a hard drive.I am using VS X6.
Method I used -Click on CAPTURE > IMPORT FROM DIGITAL MEDIA / Navigate to the folder where all the digital video clips are (PRIVATE/AVCHD/BDMV/STREAMClick START It takes a very long time for all video clips to be 'read' and 'thumbnails' displayed.
Now comes the problem.I want to select the FIRST 100 clips.I note that to select as clip to import I need to click the top left corner of a clip (and a tick appears) BUT I don't want to have to click on 900 thumbnails.I tried clicking on the first thumbnail then holding down the SHIFT key then clicking on the last thumbnail - didn't work.Tried the same holding down the CTRL key - didn't work.

I just downloaded the trial version of this software (Video Studio X5 Pro) to try it before I buy it. I am importing RAW and AVI footage capture from a program called DXtory. I am recording those videos with three audio tracks, one track covers the sound of the video game being played, one track covers my microphone input, and the last track covers the sound that comes through my teamspeak server.
When I import a video into Corel am I able to separately edit each audio track? IE change the volume of one input but not the other?

I've created a slide show using layers and have created a video group. This turns the layers into clips in the timeline. I've added a cross-fade transition between each clip in the timeline.
Everything plays back nicely in PS. When I export to mp4 and play it back in Quicktime, no matter what the magnification, the transitions look horrible. Even if I freeze frame on one it's horribly pixelated. I've tried different export options with the same results. Something appears to be happening during rendering the transitions, as if PS doesn't know how to create them. I export to:
Adobe Media Encoder
H.264
High Quality
1920 x 1080 (same as my file)
Frame Rate 30 fps
Field Order: Preset (Progressive)
Range = All Frames
My stats are:
PS CS6
iMac 27"
10.6.8
800 gigs free space
12 gigs ram 8 free

I have noticed that there is only 1 transition in both the ALBUM and FLASHBACK 'folders' in VS Pro X3 yet in VS 9 (and VS 10 I think) there are around 15 in each (folder).
The relevant file names (containing the transitions in each 'folder') are in the Vfx_Plug directory (folder) but are they interchangeable (can I just copy them across from VS9 to VS X3 without causing problems)?

I have in my VS11+ a lot of mask transitions installed, If I remember well they came from the content pack or the bonus pack. when I list the existing list in X4 they did not exist. How can I copy them to X4. Which files should be copy from vs11 to x4 and to which folder. I also have OLD add on transitions that I used in vs11+ on XP like BORIS Factory. I managed to install it on the new pc and at the first look it "work" (The Boris menu open) But when I press on any of the Icons X4 crash !

I am using VS ProX3 & have just purchased PaintShop ProX3. PaintShop has a very nice page transition in the photobook section & I would love to have that, or something like it, available for VS. I've searched the forum for any info on a page turn transition that actually looks like a page turning.... any transition like this for VS?
I tried the slideshows in Paintshop but had difficulty with using various sized photos & the panning effects, etc. So I created my project again as a photobook & it was superb as far as that went....I'd like to time the animation of those pages (similar to MS PowerPoint transitions) & add music BUT I cannot seem to accomplish that there. Next I saved all pages as .jpg, imported those to VS & created a very nice movie with available transitions, music, titles, etc. This is acceptable, BUT I would love to have that particular "page turning" transition for VS.

I am using VSP X3 Pro on a Windows 7 Professional 64bit PC. Input video files are AVCHD from a Canon SX 210s camera.
Picture format is QuickTime 1280x720, 24bit, frame rate 29.97, sound 16bit little Endian, 48000kHz, 16bit stereo. Files copied from an SD card.
I find that if I insert transition effects I lose the original recorded audio from that point forward in the clip that follows. If I do not use transition effects then the audio is fine. If I subsequently remove the transition then the audio is restored. It appears the transitions are the root cause of the problem. Identical problem if I use my Windows 7 32 bit laptop. The audio track remains visible in the timeline even when no sound can be heard.
Based on a previous suggestion I've used a workaround by converting the clips to a different format before editing. Using AVI, the audio in clips following a transition file is not lost but the video quality is seriously degraded.
I've reinstalled the software & all the three available patches. The problem has been around ever since I moved to my new PC on Windows 7.

How to turn off the "add automatic transition" function. I am using VSx4. I can go to Settings>Preferences> and hit the Edit tab, and I make SURE that the "automatically add transition effect" box is NOT checked, click OK but there is still a transition that gets added when two clips are placed next to each other. I turned on the function to check it out, and now I want to get rid of it, and can't find out how to get it to go away!

Can I overlap clips without a transition? Here's what I'm trying to do (VS Pro X3) - I have about 30 clips that I'm putting together. All of the clips need trimming at both ends. With Sony Vegas 9, I only had to trim the beginning of each clip because then I could overlap the clips to "trim" the END of each clip (the clip previous to the overlapping clip). It appears to me that with VS Pro X3 I have to trim both ends of each clip and then put them all together end-to-end because when I overlap them, the overlapping clip doesn't actually overlap the previous clip on the timeline, but both clips transition into one another. What I want is for the overlapping clip to truly overlap the previous clip, effectively ending that clip at the point of overlap. If I don't want transitions, must I trim all clips on both ends and put them together with no overlaps?
And BTW I don't use my Sony Vegas 9 (Platinum Pro Pack) any more because the program has a bug that makes mp4 rendering impossible, and other renders very sketchy.

I've been making a video with about 400 photos on it and am using various transitions.
What I can't work out what to do is how can I edit a transition then save or copy that edited version of the transition off somewhere so I can use it multiple times? It seems I get the 'base' transition, can add it to the timeline then have to edit each and every transition - it takes hours!

I'm using VS Pro x4 with one update installed. I recently created a disk for Zumbathon which was an ALS fundraiser. It was footage shot on a Canon HF S21 and the quality used was second from the best (I can't tell you the setting at the moment). I have used this camera and this setting for other videos and have never had an issue. Basically I took about 10 clips and inserted them in the time line overlapping each which caused the program to add a transition clip at random which I expected. I viewed the 4 minute video in the edit mode and all was perfect. The transitions were awesome and matched the beats of the music. These clips involved exercise footage with music playing in the background and they were in HD.
After burning a disk, (AVCHD and DVD) I noticed an audio drop out between clips with transitions. Also some audio at the beginning of these clips was also clipped. I tried everything under the sun to get this right including replacing all the transitions. The only thing that worked was the following:
Splitting off the audio to a separate audio track which was difficult. Why I experienced the audio drop out only when rendering to disk or file--not in the time line? As mentioned, I have used transitions for years with this program and never experienced this issue before.
